  1. Thanks for the link, timewasjoke. I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed the Mavis Tiny Desk Concert: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129005693 She does the 2 Tweedy-penned songs.
  2. Skywalker, I live in Tampa but if you book this show for a Saturday or during winter break (we teach), then my wife and I will attend. Studies show that dates that work for us work the best for all.
  3. Dick, I'm giving nalafej the benefit of the doubt. He wanted people to get in line and send quote-specific emails.
  4. Front left pocket. I don't carry a wallet. About 10 years ago in a shop in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle, I bought a cardholder made from a recycled bicycle tire. It is labeled 'Used Rubber' and usually contains a debit/credit card, driver's license, health insurance card and maybe a Starbucks card. If I am on vacation, I include a true credit card and AAA card. If I have a rental car, then my automobile insurance card. I rarely carry cash but when I do, I keep it in the same pocket. This has proven to be one of the best purchases I ever made. I always hated that wallet feeling.
  5. I like this one best. The clapping rocks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO7VUklDlQw&feature=related
  6. This thread made me think of that old commercial for the ILGWU. That seems like a lifetime ago. It takes some serious effort to find a union label now. I teared up watching these. "Look for the union label When you are buying a coat, dress or blouse. Remember somewhere our union's sewing our wages going to feed the kids and run the house, We work hard but who's complaining. Thanks to the I.L.G. we're paying our way. So, always look for the union label, it says we're able to make it in the U.S.A." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Lg4gGk53iY&NR=1
  7. Let me clarify. If it were me and my friends, it would be black and white. If my friends where upset that I didn't want to get intoxicated for any reason, let alone the one barb described, that would tell me all that I needed to know. As far as someone else and their friends, I can't say.
  8. This is the only reply that you should heed.
  9. This will resolve the problem one way or another. Just make sure that she has a heavy hand. Everyone will either get closer to her our loathe her even more. If nothing else, entertainment will ensue. Hopefully, your relationship will become what it is meant to be, whatever that is. I hope that you have some non-cyber friends/acquaintances/professionals to discuss such a major life situation with. Best of luck to you in forming a relationship like the one my wife and I have. I consider myself blessed.
  10. We are heading out now. We just watched a video of Big star doing 'Thank You Friends' from last year. So excited. We were excited for 'An Evening With...' in Royal Oak but the vibe for this is higher. Then the ATL Friday. Cheers and enjoy, ya'll.
  11. I remember in elementary school chorus we could only sing it sans the so-called Socialist verse: As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no trespassin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! That was a common practice back then as was the Americanism versus Communism class that was a high school graduation requirement.

  13. Sean Daly of The St. Petersburg Times put out his Top 5 March shows list. Wilco made #4. •4WILCO (Ruth Eckerd Hall, March 23): Tickets for this are going to be a tough get. But if you're dying to get in, maybe, just maybe, you can bamboozle a 43-year-old music snob out of his seats. Try this. Tell him you're "Jay Farrar, an old friend of Jeff Tweedy's. If you give me your tickets, hipster, I'll introduce you to Jeff." If he catches you in the scam, run like hell 'cause those guys … actually, just take your time. Wilco fans eat a lot of cheese. 14. Wild Frank, your Spurs kicked us out of the FA Cup with that 4-0 thrashing but I don't care because the 1-0 victory or Wolves today has us out of the relegation zone! Come on, boys!! What a game Chelsea v. Man. City was. No jet lag for Tevez though his first goal was soft. Hilario isn't Cech. With Belletti sent off and now suspended, Chelsea's already damaged defense is even worse. With Gunners 3 points back with a win today and their last 10 games being relatively easy, they just might hoist the trophy come May.
  15. Cheers Barb! I guess that there is little love for John Wesley Harding... Not in my house, though.
  16. Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts. I feel for your emotional numbness about covers, though. I had a fine night last night, regardless.
  17. Is there anything better than Wilco/Tweedy covering John Wesley Harding? We are sitting by the fire with the dogs and cat listening to shuffle and enjoying life. JWH comes up 3 times in an hour. Once Jeff solo, another Jeff solo, then Jeff solo but joined by everyone sans Nels. What fortune it is to be touched by the hand of the Shuffle God. The first time we are both, 'yeah!' and smile at one another and mildly chair dance. The next time we are both all, 'No way! Woohoo!'. The smiles grow in length and intensity and the arms and asses move a little more. The 3rd time I say, "Shit, it's the Vi
  18. I am no Yes fan, well I was for a short while when I was a young'un. I saw "Yes - In The Round" at least 30 years ago. Anyway, I just noticed in the paper that they are playing tomorrow, Saturday 27 February, as part of the 'Bands, Brew & BBQ' series at SeaWorld (as in the People Got A Lotta Nerve thread). The prior acts in the series were as follows: SeaWorld Feb. 6 – LeAnn Rimes Feb. 13 – Montgomery Gentry Feb. 20 – John Rich of Big & Rich Feb. 27 – Yes Busch Gardens Feb. 7 – Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx Feb.y 14 – Willie Nelson Feb. 21 – Huey Lewis and the News Feb. 28 – Pat
  19. Welcome, If you are considering StubHub and the like, I'd wait. There seem to be lots of tickets on those sites at insane prices. Wait and see if they drop. As far as tickets in How To Fight Loneliness, it's tough to say. They show or they don't. I have never bought there so, I don't have direct experience checking for tickets. I have sold several extras there over the years and have always posted them as soon as I had better seats. In retrospect, it doesn't sound like i have been much help. Best of luck.
  20. The last time that they were in Tampa, they ripped Gas Girl up. Love when they play it.
  21. Yeah and it's even stupider. The underage one is 18, legal in Alberta where they train but not in Vancouver, where the age is 19. She will be 19 in, wait for it... NEXT MONTH!
  22. Yup, Speed, that's it. My favorite comment to the linked NPR is this one "anonie moose (anonemoos) wrote: Watch out- that Canadian just cracked open a Molson! They're probably going to... use the adequately funded public transportation system to arrive home safely? Yeah, who cares?"
  23. Some will say that this should be in the Winter Olympics Thread but I thought some might be interested that don't read that thread. A controversy? Really? With all that is happening right now? A tempest in a teapot. They won gold. Celebrate. Yeah, maybe the underage member sparks an issue but overall, Why Give A Shite? http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2010/02/canadian_women_party_hearty_af.html
  24. That was the first of 2 shows in a row that I saw and I agree about the sound and setlist (except for opening with Sunken Treasure - that's my favorite opener - and the Misunderstood into Cars Can't Escape - perfect! - 1st encore in Charleston). It IS a beautiful venue, a grand 20s movie palace like my own Tampa Theatre (will Wilco ever return to it?). The sit/stand deal didn't bother me.
