entropy, there is reason in your post. It is tough for me to see how someone that like's music, even if they are not a fan of the entire Wilco canon, cannot find a few tunes that they dig. 'Even Richard Nixon has got soul'. I can't think of anyone that I feel emotionally close to that completely disavows wilco.

I want to sincerely thank you for posting that link. I will use it to hopefully get a few of my conservative-minded friends and acquaintances to read it with an open mind. Cheers.

10 Best Albums Resulting From the Uncle Tupelo Break-Up
Doug C replied to prefixmag's topic in Just A Fan
Because obviously everyone cares what I think and do, I added this to the prefixmag comment section: "It is a stretch to say that a Jay Bennett album resulted from the UT dissolution. The proposition that his albums resulted from the break up of Uncle Tupelo is tenuous at best. Also were albums by The Autumn Defense, The Bottle Rockets and Gob Iron left off because they were deemed unworthy or because you didn't know that John Stirratt and Brian Henneman - though Brian unofficially - were in UT and that Jay Farrar and Anders Parker recorded as Gob Iron a couple of years ago and are doing so ag -
Yeah dude! McCain is a Republican maverick. He goes his own way. He's not some some lock step ideologue like Olympia Snowe. Check out her disgusting voting record: http://www.ontheissues.org/senate/olympia_snowe.htm BLEAAACCHHH!! Thank the stars he didn't pick her as his running mate! It would be the same old, same old. Good on ya, Straight Talk! WHOOT!!!

I am more interested in witty rejoinders about alcohol consumption than pointless political discourse.

Is there one?

Free beer and liquor. It is damned expensive there due to the heavy taxes. That was the worst thing about the Christmas and New Years Eve I spent in Sweden back in '87.

I admit that after 2 episodes, we are hooked. It isn't great TV but it is fun and the premise, even though we are not vampire obsessives or goths, is the real bait for us. Though you shouldn't be guilty about pleasure, I guess that's what some would call it.

Damn. The Hold Steady AND cocktails.

10 Best Albums Resulting From the Uncle Tupelo Break-Up
Doug C replied to prefixmag's topic in Just A Fan
Thanks for the list and the previous one. It is an enjoyable discussion starter. Considering the arbitrariness, is that a word?, of creating such a list, your's is as good as any, as was the earlier one. Thanks for posting articles that we'd likely find interesting. Keep it up. -
I apologize if I sounded as though I was trashing the entire thread and the posters. I wasn't. I enjoy reading the election threads mainly for worthwhile links and an occasional chuckle. All I meant to say was that from reading the political threads I often feel as though some people seem to say things more to get a reaction than to promote their view. I again apologize. From some responses, it is quite obvious that folks thought that I was calling everyone an arsehole. For that I am sincerely sorry.
-
Do you disagree that there are message board posters, especially in political threads, that enjoy the responses they can elicit more than they care about the issue being debated?
-
I just spent way too much time reading this thread. That was my choice as it was to read similiar ones. I am convinced that certain posters would be unable to have the same exchange face to face. They would start laughing or at the very least start smiling because they are saying things that they don't believe simply to watch the show. That is the uniqueness of message board debates. It is easy to have an enjoyable time getting someone to respond to you whether you are stating your actual convictions or not. You can type on a keyboard in the privacy of your own space and laugh your ass off. Fe

Serpico? Are narcotics and graft afoot? If so, thank God he's here!

Damn. Now I feel bad for laughing at that.

I am jacks..., I was young. Hell I am a former FFA president and judged cuts of beef in competition! I'd never eat opossum now unless starving...
-
Forgive me for this has nothing to do with Palin but has anyone ever eaten opossum? It is greasy. Or greezy, as I used to say. On second thought, it probably does relate because Harris probably dressed that 'lil marsupial right after and fried it up.

Up The 'Pool!!

Today's Roger Ebert op-ed regarding Palin is quite good. Apologies if this was already mentioned. http://www.suntimes.com/news/otherviews/11...rtpalin.article

They came in just after the final 'filling up shopping bags'.

I am listening to YHF during lunch while grading tests. 2 students amble in to get some paper towels. The latter part of Ashes of American Flags is playing. One of them says, "You're listening to Michael Jackson's Thriller". I say, "No. This is a band called Wilco". "What?" "The band is called Wilco." "Brewco?" "No. WILCO!" "Oh. (long pause) So they just make noises and stuff? No music or words?" Stifling laughter I reply, "No" while waiting for Heavy Metal Drummer to kick in any second. It does. They listen for a moment, grin the classic teenage grin of 'what bullshit', and head toward the

I can understand the criticisms. The first episode of True Blood certainly was not the Greatest Television Ever but as I said before, I like the premise. It may make me sound geeky and adolescent but it would be amazing if vampires were real and they came out wanting to be accepted due to Japanese-produced synthetic blood. It has the potential for some very interesting situations and could make for a well done program. I'm wishin' and a hopin' that it works that way.

10-Year-Old Suspended For Broken Pencil Sharpener
Doug C replied to watch me fall's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Exactly. It is even more absurd that this is an IB school. The idea of zero tolerance is inane. There are always mitigating factors and shades of grey. Whether they matter or not must be considerd before guilt is determined and/or punishment is meted out. Ridiculous.
