  1. "You all."

Beating a dead horse is beating a dead horse, though. Not neccesarily here, but elsewhere.

I think there's a diverse group of folks around here and you shouldn't let the people who enjoy pushing buttons get to you. Maybe that's easier saif then done, but really. Hang out and relax for a spell, maybe.

There has been a misunderstanding. I was raised rural. I say you all all the time. It did not mean everyone. I apologize.

  2. I think many people have agreed that it is very disappointing to have the show canceled. That's very reasonable to be upset about (Dude that makes sense). I think it's just been the fact that you've been responding over and over that has annoyed people.

That isn't what i meant. I meant someone saying "dude, that makes sense" about the cancellation being a bad decision. So much for discussing moderators and admins!

  3. One of the first things I learned about argument in, oh, about 7th grade, was to avoid using absolutes because it only takes one other example of what you're claiming as the sole thing to prove you wrong. :monkey

True. Correction: I am the only one there (that i know of) that has stated a Wilco preference. Thank you.

  4. You know what? I tried to follow board protocol, be a decent guy, unlike some of you high post count folks, and not threadjack. After I hit submit it hit me that it wasn't the right place for it and knew that one of you nice, kind folks would point it out. Gee, thanks. The other board I mentioned also doesn't have different areas. there is only 1. I apologize. I am sincerely trying to follow the rules. Some of you all seem to need PMs from a moderator.

I did not say that I didn't like moderators. I obviously can deal with it as evidenced by my actions. I am truly interested in it and am sharing different viewpoints in an INTERNET FORUM.

I have never used profanities/obscenities or called anyone a truly derogatory name as many of you regulars have done and do. The only reason that you are giving me grief is because I stated an opinion on Wilco that you didn't agree with. Yes, I stated it several times for 2 resons: 1) because people kept responding and 2) because I was truly dumbfounded. I came here when the cancellation was announced because I assummed that the place would be full of dumbfounded fans just as surprised by Wilco as I was. I admit that I kept refining my logic on the foolish notion that someone would say, "Dude, that makes sense". That is messed up. If anyone here needs monitoring, it isn't me. It is the smarmy, elitist jerks many of you appear to be.

  5. platiceyedude, you are clearly calling me out. I will respond. Just remember that I didn't start this threadjack. I would NEVER travel to a Pogues show due to the likelihood of cancellation. I accept cancellations for illness, family emergency and too drunk and/or drugged to perform. Anything that actually will prevent the band from performing whole is totally acceptable for cancellation. Playing another show because you find it to be somehow better for you is not. Plain and simple. How that logic escapes so many, is beyond me.

  6. I wanted to reply to cryptique but I didn't want to threadjack.

"As for banning people who criticize the band, that has never happened here. Everyone is free to express their opinions. It's only when those expressions become abusive or otherwise drag down the level of discourse to an unacceptable level that those members run afoul of the moderators.

I love that this board has moderators who are actually present and engaged in the discussions. They help to keep things from spiraling out of control. I've been on other boards that are barely moderated (or unmoderated), and most of them are utterly intolerable. This place remains surprisingly civil, and I credit that largely to our group of moderators."

I don't fully understand the first paragraph. I have learned that there is an ignore feature here. Also, if you ignore them, they will stop. Not responding to people deemed as discourse-level-dragdowners is the simplest and most effective way to deal with them.

The musician's board that I waste crazy time posting on has no moderator and the discussion that get wild work themselves out. It is very tolerable. It just seems as though some people can't avoid responding to people that bother them. Self-monitoring works very well.

  7. Wow! I hadn't heard this this. I hope to see them. Me and my buddies were heavily into the Pogues way back when. We always referred to MacGowan as the ugliest man in show business and would always try to find a worthy contender. We always failed.

  8. How many moderators are there? I am only amazed because I have spent embarassing amounts of time and have a shameful amount of posts on a musician's board that has no moderator. The whole moderator idea is, therefore, odd to me. This is the first time I have ever realized that they exist here. No judgement being made about it, though.

  9. For the record, pookie, I am not angry. I just am a principled person. When it comes to my principles, I am as Calexico, the boarder not the band, says "like a dog with a bone". As I have promised to GoGo and Ms. Yvon, I am finished with the SNL episode. I won't even respond to name calling or personal insults. So I leave you to it!!

  10. Dude, I've actually agreed with alot of the things you've posted. But at some point just let it go.

I do not consider this a violation of my above promise to let it go, mainly because i just now saw this. If that is true, then why did you not post it?????

  11. Gee thanks, Mom Gogo (I couldn't resist).

Analogman, I truly appreciate your post. Thanks for being civil, like I have been. It sucks that it took 12 years for you to finally see them. I saw them open for the Jayhawks in Tampa on the AM tour (what a double bill), then for Sheryl Crow in Tampa in 1996. Many of my students were there to see crow and were complaing the next day about that 'shit band that opened'! Then they did an amazing, extra-long show as headliners in 1999 in St. Pete. Then I had the bug and started thinking about traveling. But I digress. "Would I be raising hell if I had spent money and made plans to go to Charleston? Fuck yes..." See that's my thing. Why aren't you and others raising hell anyway? It doesn't make sense to a principled guy like me, and I admit that it is one of my main attributes and a main fault, that you see the point but only speak out if it affects you. Oh well.

Thanks again for the post and I see your point. As long as no one posts something false about what I posted, as happened after my first I am done words, then I am over it.

Cheers, Mr. Bolan and peace to all my fellow VCers.

  12. I am still looking for affordable tickets but I am still hoping to be there. 10 hours is more than 7 but that's what I do for my favorite band. It'll be fun to meet up. I always enjoy it. Fingers crossed.
