  1. I don't want to speak for Louie, but I have never thought he wasn't self aware, he just doesn't care if you take what he says as offensive. Do you care that folks might think that you're an overbearing argumentative young dick? If you do care what people think of you when why be like that, and if you don't care then you're not any different than Lou. Move on, please, we're talking about presidential pets now.
  2. As long as they are getting food, shelter and vet care, it is not considered hoarding. Don't ask me how I know this.
  3. Bingo. I think i may have just found my new career.
  4. I hope the Obamas get their dog or puppy at the DC Humane Society. They have a great program that trains soldiers who have come home from Iraq, Afghanistan, etc injured, to start a new career in animal care. It is a 6 month program that either trains them to be vet techs, or gets them ready to go into Vet School if they want to become animal doctors. I heard a report on it on our local NPR affiliate (WAMU, you can probably find it on line) and it is clearly a very important program for these soldiers who come home feeling less than whole... In any event, they should get a cat too.
  5. Did Jeff Tweedy show up at Grant Park? I fell asleep (even though it was only, like 8 pm out here)
  6. I'd be happier to hear that they were adopting an adult dog from the animal shelter. Who the hell is going to be running a puppy outside five times a night when you live at the white house?
  7. Fox News is like the WalMart of TV for me so I refuse to watch it, and the few times I've caught Brit Hume on the telly when at the inlaws or with grandfather, he makes me gnash my teeth and want to through a brick through the screen right between his eyes, so yeah, I think he's a piece of shit since he joined fox. i can't help but feel like he's the dude in the Angel puppet episode where the evil puppets have their hand up his ass making him talk. Except he's there of his own free will, not because of some magick that a giant egg in the basement is emitting.
  8. Well, here's the thing. I think crappy beer definitely says something about a person's character. I mean, when there's no other beer around, that is one thing, but why would anyone, knowingly, choose a shitty beer?
  9. I don't agree with Louie on all things, and I never feel like he is talking down to me. And I am a bit younger than he is, but not by much-10 years maybe? I can't help but think you mistake his enthusiasm and years of experience both as a liberal and a human being (which for me counts for something whether i buy into what he's saying or not) for prickishness. But I do not.
  10. Wait, you're going to tell me that the McCain POW stuff, the pre-2004 true maverick talk, etc., didn't speak directly to his character, that his campaign didn't try to use that to their advantage? Do you really believe that? Or are you just cranky this morning? Even the Obama campaign used "character" as a player in the election. It isn't subjective. Subjective is when I have an opinion about YOUR character (or lack thereof) based on what I know of you, not based on what you self-identify in your user profile or what you tell me over a few beers after wilco show. If i tell you, over those b
  11. No, it isn't. Not when you use yours as a platform in your bid to become president. McCain made his character a major player in the election. It wasn't subjective.
  12. I cannot help myself, but that black dress with the red business is not at all a flattering choice for Mrs. Obama, and why was Joe Biden's wife (i don't even know her name!) wearing one of Cindy McCain's yellow suits?
  13. There have been many reasons why I love Chicago and now I have another reason.
  14. Never underestimate the power of the bobblehead. Two Red Sox World Series and Virginia voting Dem. You're welcome. I will also take credit for NC if that goes blue too, because that's where all my inlaws are and clearly I was able to convince them.
  15. I will have to reconsider my 5 year plan to move to Northern California if that stupid marriage bullshit passes. That would be a grave disappointment. How can the state go for Obama, but allow this atrocity?
  16. Something tells me that Natalie is quite pleased right now. Wherever she is.
  17. I thought that if he was set on picking a woman, he should have picked Elizabeth Dole, although if she's being tuned up in NC, maybe she wasn't such a good choice either, but I always liked her more than her wackjob husband.
  18. What happened with that terrible same sex marriage thing in California? Was that defeated, I hope?
  19. RI, CT, OR and VA--all blue. Hey, what happened with NC? did they ever call that?
  20. you should try to find it. It was the most uplifting concession speech I've ever heard.
  21. Caliber and Wookies are at a conference (military communications) function (i stayed behind because I was tired) and you can imagine that the mood there is very glum. I am hoping they bring the dessert home.
  22. Palin looks like she's going to cry. I would like to think that I care about her feelings, but I really don't. But John McCain...You know, if he hadn't drifted back into the Bush Camp and chosen such a nitwit as a running mate, we'd be looking at a very different outcome, i think.
  23. oh hey, me too! we had better move down to South Carolina, or Georgia or something next.
  24. so is Al Franken going to win his race? CNN has it at 42% even...
