  1. Hey thanks, that is REALLY helpful. I'm waiting to meet with the guys at the Pizzeria and I'll have a much better idea of exactly what is going to happen. I have access to multiple XL1s and GL1s and mics etc. Definitely going to try and keep it simple though... please keep your eye peeled here and I'll keep you updated as I go along!

  2. I'm going to be filming a documentary in a Pizzeria, a very busy one (Ian's Pizza in Madison, Wisc.). I want to capture audio from multiple sources while I film. What equipment do you suggest with the following in mind:

    I don't have a lot of money.

It will need to sync up with video captured on Mini DV.

I only need to record about 2-3 simultaneous sources (ie. one at the cash register, one at the pizza-making counter).

  3. I saw the first 1/2 hour or so on the online world premier. I thought that Tweedy's performance was ok but not stellar. But I thought the film was a disappointing over all. I still have to see the rest but it was kind of boring. I definitely wouldn't give it to a non-fan of Wilco/Tweedy and expect them to become a fan.

"Wow, you've made me a Jeff Tweedy fan." - My Mom after watching Sunken Treasure. Note: She gave me a disclaimer that she a) doesn't like concert films and B) would most likely fall asleep during it. It was the best test of the film that I can think of...

  4. Pastrysharp, the excellent Califone site, lists Califone opening for Wilco in Ann Arbor on 12/08/06.

The venue listed is the Michigan Union, which is not a music venue at all, but sometimes serves as an advance ticket office for the Michigan Theater, an exceptional venue.

    No word on tickets.

    No word on Wilcoworld.

    Anyone heard any other news?

I heard I'll be there if it's true.

  5. Here is something GREAT about the mediocrity of the songs on Sunken Treasure: As someone who collects and listens intently to countless live shows, from Uncle Tupelo to Golden Smog to Tweedy to Wilco pre- and post- Jay Bennett, I must say that after listening to the free DVD downloaded tracks that I would probably prefer to listen to almost any other show I've collected on my own. I might even prefer to send JHamm some blanks and check out a vintage show.

Look on the bright side, Sunken Treasure will never replace the wonderful traded shows that all of us can get with just a little care and kindness called "sharing." I am THRILLED that Wilco didn't try to compete with the tapers and fans that have pretty much unlimited access to their amazing live shows.

  6. it was happening to me as well a few years back. one day i got up extra early and sat by the window. saw the fucker coming in to flog it. i jumped out the front door and what does he do?... breaks into a run down the street - with the paper. it only cost 80 cents as well to buy it!

he looked to be about 30-something as well

Nice, see if only you had it on video... just wait everyone, justice will be served on YouTube!

  7. Saturday, August 21, 1999

    Midway Stadium, St. Paul, MN

    No setlist available :(

The first time I saw Wilco in concert was their Summerteeth tour. They opened for REM at the minor league ballpark where the St. Paul Saints play. Thankfully my older brother forced me to go early and get close so that Jeff Tweedy, Jay Bennett, John Stirratt and Leroy Bach could turn my world upside down. Wilco rocked, then REM came out and the rain fell. My brother and I dried off in one of the dugouts and discussed our new love for Wilco. August 21, 1999 was the beginning of my addiction to Wilco.

When did it start for you?

  8. I don't see Sunken Treasure as much of a "concert film" as I do a documentary...

Stop Making Sense and Rust Never Sleeps are concert films, Sunken Treasure is more like Don't Look Back except in ST you can actually hear songs from beginning to end and most of what we see of the artist actually happened on stage and not behind the scenes.

  9. I've been living in this apartment building for about 2.5 months now and I have a 7 day per week subscription to the New York Times. However, I think I have recieved my Sunday paper no more than two times! It is an ongoing problem and the NYTimes continues to promise door delivery and that they would print my name on the paper yet neither has happened. They deliver the paper but someone, or more likely many people, just take my paper. I'm pretty sure I am the only one with a subscription to the Sunday Times in an apt. building that has prob 300+ tennants. Next week I plan to take this into my own hands. I will ambush my paper thief(s) with a digi camera and a mallet... any other ideas?

    :coffee :realmad

  10. I also think that the song selection is great for both longtime fans and just any music lover...that's based upon my own opinion AND the best music critic i know - the guy at B-Side records in Madison (who has never admitted to be excited about anything, really) - he actually thought the song choices looked intriguing.
