  1. wait til backets come out sunday

Yeah, notice I didn't give mine up! hah. But how about these conference tourneys...wowwwowwwoeeewaaaa. I don't remember the conference tourneys being this entertaining in recent years - this year, the close games and especially the overtime games actually made me forget (for a moment) that the big dance is next week.

I'm not sure of the good sites, but anyone interested in joining a VC pool (free?)?

I've joined this one: http://startribune.collegebasketball.upickem.net/ and I set up private group there.

    Group Name: Via Chicago

Password: Your favorite band (it's actually your favorite band, don't type in "your favorite band" you idiot - and if the password doesn't work, then that isn't your favorite band - PM me if you're confused).

    EDIT:

THE OFFICIAL UNOFFICIAL VIA CHICAGO POOL

  2. Yeah, welcome to concert-going in the 21st century. Expect people to be taking pictures and recording the audio and video everywhere. Get used to it, it's only going to get crazier.

In the future, people will broadcast a holographic image of themselves on the stage trying to kiss Tweedy.

  3. I would guess 99% of all the copies going around are ripped from the webcast - a format that I assume is extremely low quality. No matter what "kbps" your mp3s show up as, I would guess a real analysis of the audio would put them much lower than that. First, in order to stream the audio, it is compressed and then the software for capturing the stream and convert it to mp3 brings it down even more. I'm sure there are some copies going around ripped from an "advance copy" put out by Wilco's record label but because they streamed the album, that rip is probably the most common.

As for them leaking their own album? Of course they knew some techgeekfan would record the webstream and make it available for download the next day. It's cool that they are cool about it. I also think it was smart, because it flooded the internet with crap-quality versions of the CD and we will all have to buy the album on May 15 if we want a good copy (or wait until someone else buys it and uploads FLACs or higher mp3s).

  4. yes!!!! oooo-I love her!!!!! and I also think Nickelback and every other artist in VH1's top twenty are so talented.....

Is that supposed to be a joke? Spektor doesn't belong on a list called VH1's top twenty, and I'm always surprised to see her in that light. The Spektor I know is the one who has been playing small spots in NYC for the past five years.

  5. Most copies on BT are rips of the stream from the website the other night, and do sound kind of cloudy. The bass lacks punch on a lot of tracks. The CD will certainly enhance the experience -- but I don't think it'll make anybody do a 180 as to how they feel about.

Most?! PM me if you have found anything otherwise...

I agree, I think this album could benefit from a few minor level adjustments (that maybe will come to fruition on the official release) - everything could be a little crisper, and Glenn's drums could be more boomin!

A brilliant move by Wilco to leak a poor quality sounding version of this album before good ones can appear on torrent sites. This stream-rip will forever cloud people's ability to get a full quality CD rip of the album if this is the case...makes Oink seem brilliant (or stupid?).

  6. I hear Wilco EVERYWHERE! This weekend I was eating breakfast at a new cafe near my house and California Stars was booming through. One time I was in the middle of the park reading a book under a tree, no one was near me and I didn't have an iPod yet somehow Forget The Flowers seemed to be filtering through the forest nearby. It was weird, but awesome.

  7. My son has a friend named Ben who, when he sleeps over and I tell them to shut up and go to sleep at 3 in the morning, sez "Me and my dad always stay up till 6 in the morning playing video games". I still don't buy it.

    Hi, though. :wave

Next time he's over, just push your clocks forward two or three hours. They will think you're the coolest for letting them stay up so late!

  8. BUMP ;)

Thanks Wilco - for 'leaking' your own album - sorry if we were getting so impatient that it pressured you into it! We (I) promise to actually buy it when it comes out. But, seriously, thank you for streaming it this weekend and releasing What Light to the public. G-ddamn you're awesome.

Also - GregRVA - it looks like you're going to get that return to Australia you asked for - now you just have to hope for Richmond!

  9. Go for the new Bridge Benefit compilation put together by Neil Young. It's only available on iTunes and the money goes to a good cause. Check it out - these are all the LIVE performances included in the set.

  10. Inevitably this album will be compared to YHF and AGiB but I would like to see someone review Sky Blue Sky without having to comment on Tweedy and Wilco's history in order to make excuses or explanations for the new songs. As someone who can do that for myself, I beg the question: how will someone feel about this album who has NEVER heard Wilco before?
