  1. I did the getting the 12 for a penny deal and then never fulfilling the agreement thing a few times too and so did half of the people I know. The selection really wasn't that great. It was usually stuff you could find in the used bin of a music store for $4 anyway. I recall enjoying looking through the catalog and all the little inserts though. You had to select what genre of music you liked and you got a catalog specific to that, right? That wasn't cool...what musical narrow-mindedness!

  2. but after doing my own research online about the events of the movie and the characters, its become clear to me that many parts of the movie are heavily editing for dramatic effect. Lots of stuff is taken out of context, put out of sequence, or staged to make the story better. Billy Mitchell is full of himself, but he's not as sinister or whatever as the movie makes him out to be.
Loved the movie. This is very disappointing.
  3. Michael Stipe is SO much hooooottteerrr!!!?!???!?!?!?"
Oh man, that almost made me barf.

Why do you come to VC regularly?

    Habit

What do you get out of coming here?

Wilco updates, movie/book/music recommendations, and vibes/support from the nice folks. Plus, I think you're all pretty easy and if I ever needed to get laid, I could probably find tail.

How did you get into VC?

I found the key under the doormat. (Google, then a habit developed.)

Do you consider yourself a Wilco fan, even if you hate AM/SBS/BT/MA/MA2/whichever album blew chunks?

Yeah, but I confess I've been slacking on the listening lately. Wilco was my musical crutch through my brothers death, I think my connection to the music springs from that and I find myself needing crutches less lately.

How would you define being a Wilco fan?

I listen to/enjoy Wilco and try to catch a show whenever I can which is nowhere near often enough.

If your interest in Wilco has waned, why do you still come around?

Habit and I'm afraid something major could go down and I'd miss it!

Is there another internet community you spend more time at, and what kind of forum is it (music, sports, political)?

    Just the social networking stuff.

Do you consider some fellow VCers friends?

In a way, I guess? Once you get to know enough about people, it's hard not to care for them and worry for them when something is going wrong, etc.

Do you consider a few VCers you've never met to be friends?

    Same as above.

What did you find at VC that you haven't found at other internet communities, that made you want to stick around?

I've never really gotten into other internet communities too much...there are a few, but I don't jive there like I do here. I stick around because I actually find some insightful commentary here and feel like I can actually contribute to the conversation some times.

Is there something about YOU that you think makes you inclined to being active on a message board, that people who don't belong to internet communities lack?

Shit tons of spare time, and a fierce internet addiction (drug of choice being music listening, downloading, researching, etc.)

And if you DON'T come to VC regularly, how often do you visit and why do you visit?

I'm usually around. If I'm not, it's because "real life" is happening...which I guess is a good thing.

  4. Gorgeous - I'm sure you're well aware of this Bonnie Prince, Scout Niblett duet?

    It gives me them goosebumps.

Oh and this other one - ignore the video.

What, you missed my Myspace blog about the Kiss video?!?! I'm so offended! You're going to mess around and get kicked off my friends, dude. ;)

I know the other song too because I got the Scout Niblett album to hear the Bonnie stuff. I don't really care for any of the songs on it without him. That Kiss song, aaaaaawwwww jeeze...it's magic, "let's kidnap each other," "my heart is charged now." Why can't dudes say things like that in real life? It would result in me instantly melting...maybe they don't say those things because they don't want liquid Loretta all over their shoes? Who knows...men are puzzling.

  5. And "Dress Sexy at My Funeral" is one of the greatest songs ever.
    Double truth.

I want to take a bunch of pictures of myself gettin it on in all the places described, and play them as a slideshow w/ that song @ my funeral.
Don't you need a wife for that to work?
  6. It opens in the early 1900s with Mary Pickford fainting on set while elsewhere, at the same moment, a beloved minister is shaken to realize that he no longer believes in God.
I've bought and sold this book a few times and never cracked it. I've got one or two copies now, and I think I may finally read it. I'm intrigued!
  7. Holy crap. I have never cried so much during a movie as I did during this one (and I'm one of those people prone to crying during movies.)

"Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father"

It's streamable on Netflix for those of you who have accounts.

  8. Any strong feelings seem to help push the art along, even if they're negative feelings like the immense sadness of depression. I don't think suffering is required to create art, but I think art can definitely be a nice side effect of suffering sometimes. And the art can help relieve the suffering sometimes too.

Personally, I've been going through some negative stuff lately and today I felt inspired to color little rocket ships and animate them. I don't think feeling stepped on necessarily led to the rocket ship animation, but I can say the rockets have made me feel a little better...so that's good. :blush

  9. I might have mentioned this flick elsewhere on the board at some point because I've been obsessing over it for more than a year now, but it's officially out:

Such Hawks Such Hounds (formerly known as, "Heavy: The Movie")

It's fantastic...more glorious 70s influenced heavy stuff than you can shake a stick at. Plus, it's like porn for me because so many of the dudes are of the shaggy bearded variety and that sort of thing gets my lady-mojo rising.

    Buy it here:

Normally, I'd offer to rip my copy and up it to share, but I know they had a hard time getting this out/financing it and everything so I'd rather see ya drop some dough their way. :yes It's great, you won't regret it.

  10. This may be completely useless, but I just noticed the files while I was scanning some other stuff so here goes...

This is the first few pages of the article. They're just straight up scans in a .rar file. They may be completely usesless, but you're free to download them and see if they're viewable for ya. If they work and you can't live without reading the rest, I'll see what I can do in the scanning department (but I'll hate you for making me work that much ;) ) or I can photocopy them and mail them to you (this is easier and preferred.)

Let me know if you download it and they work.
