  1. Anyone a fan of or familiar with Sunn O))) ?

Sludge, doom noise experimental metal? Even a few minutes after listening to their new album my head and ears are still ringing. Some weird ass shit. Good to experience it every once in a while but I sure wouldn't want to live there.

I dig 'em, but not often. I hear it's a ton 'o' fun live, but I don't go cruising around in my truck playing it. Truck music has to be singing along music, it ain't happenin' with Sunn O))), but I often think if I wanted to trick my shit out with phat speakers and bass around town, I could do it to that.

I caught part of that Maiden doc on VH1 recently. Bruce Dickinson seems like such an awesome guy.

  2. This sucks. My thoughts are with all of Jay's family, friends, and fans. My heart goes out to you.

Wilco was a significant help for me when dealing with my brother's death three years ago. I am eternally grateful for the music Jay made.

  3. by the way, question for anyone that does it: is the jumping up and down some kind of endurance test or something?
I think it's an involuntary reaction to the rawk. Probably genetic, some people have the jumping genes and some do not. :lol
  4. You know what does bother me at shows? All the people with their frackin' cell phones in the air the entire time. I'm cool with snapping a couple of photos or catching a video of your favorite song or maybe dialing a friend to let them listen in for a bit...all that's fine, but it seems like a lot of people spend the entire show watching the stage through their little phone screen. It's not like the video or picture quality on those things is that great. I feel sorry for them, like they're missing out on the full experience.

  5. Any dancing and singing I do at shows is certainly not done to impress anyone or to "show off" that I know the words, it's just the same singing and dancing I do when I'm alone and there's no one around to impress. If I'm in that mode, I'm probably so lost in the music and enjoying myself that I don't notice there are people around who need impressing anyway.

  6. Not nearly as appalled as I by your willingness to associate with such low-class recepticles of otherwise perfectly good literature - and besides, my good mam, I own a Keendle!
D'oh! I'd forgotten you were of the Kindle-class! Us po' folks like our books cheap and made of paper so we can burn them for warmth when they shut the gas and electricity off for non-payment. ;)
  7. Plus that Oprah book club sticker peels right off.
I bought mine used...pulled it off of my shelf just now to see if I had a sticker and sure enough, there's a gummy little circle where one of those stickers probably resided! Previous owner did my sticker removal for me!
  8. But Dumb & Dumber might be the worst movie ever made. I can't appreciate that at all.
My daughter and I were in the thrift store and she saw a VHS copy of Dumb & Dumber. She asked me if I'd seen it before and I said "Yeah." Then she asked me what it was about and I had no idea what to say.

While this is a nitpicky kind of deal, should I invest in hardbound for this book or is going paperback not too bad? I ask because sometimes it changes the experience in minuscule ways, and perhaps I would like to experience this in the "best way" possible.
I like trade paperback because it's easier to manipulate and lighter to carry around.
  9. maybe to have Cronenberg helm it.
That would have been promising. He does that quiet, atmospheric thing well and that's how I read the book.

John Hillcoat, the man responsible for the dirty, barbaric, smart The Proposition?
    This is good too though.
