Waking up with one of my cats staring at me from the window sill
Sorry, this belongs in the "what are the little things that make you feel creepy" thread.

A couple dates popping up on Google for early 2011.
Jan 26 - Austin
Jan 30 - Lexington, KY (!)
Hopefully more to come... I haven't seen them, but looking forward to it.

On the plus side, I played golf with my 67YO mom before the Indy show a couple years ago on my mini-palooza birthday trek to Radiohead and Wilco.
On the minus side, I got a speeding ticket on my way back from the Iroquois show in Louisville when I was ALMOST all the way home.

I am growing weary of all of the phone-call pollsters this month. I forgot how irritating it is to track down the phone only to find it's some random somebody wanting to know who I'd vote for. When the do-not-call lists kicked in a couple years ago, that was a beautiful thing. Now it only comes back once or twice a year, but it's more annoying since you think those things were gone for good. You have to re-train yourself to let the machine get it.

At our house we refer to it all as "Nickelstaind" when any of that indistinguishable generic drivel comes on the radio.

True story / weird coincidence: I made a playlist on my ipod that I keep in my car this morning which consists of all the versions of Kamera / Camera I have (7 in total including live versions) just because I love all the variations of that song. It also picked up the R.E.M. version from Reckoning!

My new jackass project manager who is so worried about cost, cost, cost that he's going to cost us a contract. Although he may not be my boss for long because today I told him his "cost" was third on my priority list behind safety of my guys and quality of work. If I can bite my tongue for another year or so he'll likely get fired but he already knows I think he is a moron and its only been 2 1/2 weeks.
no, really, how do you really feel about it? Don't keep sugarcoating it.

Well, one that comes to mind quickly is A Shot in the Arm by that alt-country band from Chicago. Something about talking ashtrays..

Hope you had a happily ignored birthday!

the entire wash of feedback at the end of Reservations.
Yeah, the whole outro for Reservations is just gorgeous.

The avalanche in Via Chicago live.
Glenn's drum explosion in ALTWYS.
The little quiet transition / meandering part in Muzzle of Bees after the last "half is me" line, but before the guitars kick back in. The residency version with Andrew Bird is particularly beautiful.
Pat's guitar line in the end of Bull Black Nova.

I've been using my local library system to try out music I'm interested in. I recently went through a couple month jazz binge and was able to get almost anything I read about using my local library system.
I do that a lot too. I've rationalized that it's OK to copy those since it's really my tax dollars that bought it in the first place. No replies are needed from you bubble bursters out there.

I am patiently awaiting A-man's post on this topic.

When someone in my family loads the dishwasher with a bowl or a glass or something upside down on the top rack and it collects all the dirty water and then spills out all over the other clean dishes on the bottom rack when you pull out the top rack.
Actually, I have numerous dishwasher loading (or failure to load) peeves, truth be told. I should probably have that looked at.

I finally got around to downloading this from i-tunes this weekend. I've been through it a couple times, and I like it a lot. It's different enough to be interesting, but still holds the greatness of DSOM. Least favorite is Great Gig in the Sky; I needed that one to be a little more reverent. But the rest is a good mix of mashing in lots of stuff in some places, and stripping out lots of stuff in others.
I understand why non-Lips fans wouldn't like it. I don't see it winning any new fans.

People are so hung up on their inner monologue, their inner soundtrack, that the outside world is just background noise.
Perfect.

Not to take up the fight, but I never give anyone advice on raising their kids. I just get peeved when I see parents who never say "no," because it's a stupid way to raise kids. I don't say anything to them about it, because it's not my place to do so. If you disagree with me about how to raise kids, that's cool, but this is a peeves thread, and that's one of mine.
Not to prolong the fight, but I will see your peeve and raise you two annoyances!
We're cool. I get your point.

- People who never say "no" to their children.
Not pick a fight, but one of my biggies is having people without kids give me advice on how to raise mine. I hear your point, and you might have a dozen kids for all I know. But in general, advice-giving rights are earned through experience. All others just annoy the crap out of me.
That line in Signs "he can't even run his own life, I'll be damned if he'll run mine" is one of my mantra's.

I don't consider the outtro to Reservations as noise.
