  1. has anyone worked out the chords to On and On yet?
  2. Cool. I have no idea how the sound system will be at this thing, but we'll do what we can.
  3. me too! Is that your Poland trip? Have fun!
  4. If you're itching to hear some Wilco tunes played live in Chicago, and can't wait for an actual Wilco show, come on out and check out the Late Greats. We're a Wilco tribute band formed from members of the Old Town School of Folk Music's Wilco Ensemble (we shit you not). OK, we're not Wilco, but we have a blast getting together to rock out on our favorite Wilco tunes. And our shows are free. So come on out and share the love. June 17, 4 p.m.: Artist of the Wall Festival. Outside by the lake in Rogers Park near the lake and Morse. June 22, 7 p.m.: 909 W. Armitage, Old Town School o
  5. I'd have to see the key signature to know whether these are minor or major. Looks like the left hand just keeps hitting an A (if we're in bass clef here), and and the right plays an A or A minor, then the right plays a D or D minor. So it does seem like playing a D and throwing in the open A string on the bass would work. But from I can see, I'm guessing we're in A or D here and they are major. I'm just trying to recall music theory from elementary school here. That and I watched a series from the BBC called "how music works" recently. Groo, I'm sure you know who could give
  6. Well, our group didn't play FOR him, but we did play WITH him. He was more than polite. He seemed to have fun. He even came back two years in a row. Yes, we did have to win the auction both times, but the second time, at Jeff's request, there was no solo set. Instead we played together all night, and nearly everyone at ths show got a chance to get up and play. It was AWESOME! http://web.mac.com/smfolk/iWeb/Site/Imposs...ton%202007.html He was totally cool about it and seemed to enjoy playing music with other people who love to play music.
  7. It's a pretty diverse group. The only professional musician in the group is Bob Goins, who teaches the Wilco ensemble at the Old Town School of Folk Music. He's a great musician, a super nice guy, and an amazing song-figurin'-out NINJA! It was fun seeing him talk guitars and music with Jeff. The rest of us do all sorts of things when we're not playing Wilco tunes. Anyway, we'll be playing a few tunes tonight at the Old Town School's First Friday open house. There's a showcase of student ensembles and we'll play You Are My Face and Hate it Here. It starts around 7 p.m. and it's on
  8. don't know about photos but it was recorded. http://web.mac.com/blastingfonda/iWeb/The%...reats/mp3s.html
  9. we were pretty happy after playing that!
  10. oh, yikes, i liked her better before! that's scary. (and funny too) hmmmm, maybe i should look at the first picture again and see if it grows on me . . . . ok, yeah .. . she's very beautiful. . . but . . . hmmmmm . . . yeah, I'm still straight. i'd prefer . . . oh, jude law?
  11. OK, OK, she's in great shape and very beautiful. But she's not my type. I like men.
  12. is that common ground? OK, I can agree that she's in great shape . . . but who is she? if the common ground is just someone who happens to be really hot, well, she doesn't do it for me.
  13. Yeah, that's exactly why I feel the need to own all the Wilco albums. With some bands, I can get by with just one of their albums or a "greatest hits" mix because the rest of their stuff isn't that interesting or just sounds like more of the same. I don't feel the need to own any Sun Volt because to my ear it sounds like recycled Uncle Tupelo but less interesting. For that matter, I saw Jay Bennet at Fitzgeralds a few months back. He sure can play, and some of the tunes were cool, but I didn't feel the need to buy his album. I guess Jeff's song writing is the common thread that keeps
  14. Mmmmm, BBQ and rocking out. Sounds awesome. Let's do it. Actually, we have two performances scheduled in June. There's the Artists of the Wall festival in Rogers Park down by the lake. I think that's June 16. Then there's a show at the Old Town School at 909 W Armitage on June 22. We're gonna rock the material from SBS. Should be a fun time. And it's BYOB. (Sorry, no live band karaoke planned, but you might be able to talk us into some sing-along encores.) Rockin' good times.
  15. nice singing and dancing all. it was a blast. but I don't feel so hot today. must rest up!
  16. in any case, i'd play the drone just to see you do the dance!
  17. gotcha! awesome! see you tonight. it's gonna be fun!
  18. piano. who be you? an ensemble member, yes?
  19. We have all manner of pedals, effects, and random noise makers. Be careful what you wish for cause we are prepared to bring the noise. oh, and the two Stephs have already invented an interpretive dance for ELT!
  20. Have you been the the Hideout? It rocks! Two Cow Garage will play there next Thursday!
  21. yeah, i hear ya. i'm going to attempt to sing while sober. dangerous? perhaps. but i have to play piano too and that requires some concentration (at least for me it does). but booze or no booze, this is gonna be a rockin' good time!
  22. A little hutzpah can go a long way in selling a song.
  23. nice choices. I'm wondering whether people will be more interested in singing stuff from the earlier albums or the more recent albums. I'm gonna attempt You Are My Face . . . . I think.
  24. I use these chords and then just try to fill in the blanks. Once you know what the chords are, it's pretty easy to approximate it on keys.
