you gonna play those licks on slide guitar?
-
Totally worth it. Good times.
-
KD is your best bet for that. he might show up one of these thursdays to play that pedal steel part for us!
-
so, i heard about the show, but is jeff auctioning off the living room show/shows again this year?
-
yeah, a friend of mine plays them as a medley.

I've got Cmaj7#4 for that first chord . . . but then, I play it on piano so there's no capo obviously. so my no capo version starts Intro: Cmaj7#4 Cmaj7#4 Gmaj13 Gmaj13 x2 Cmaj7#4 Cmaj7#4 Gmaj13 Gmaj13 D9 D9 Gmaj13 Gmaj13 Cmaj7#4 Cmaj7#4 Gmaj13 Gmaj13 D9 D9 Gmaj13 Gmaj13 and on and on . . .

here's the poster for the show

Our original goal was to play right through both albums. That would finish off our goal of performing all of the studio albums live from start to finish. Unfortunately, we were short on time on this last show, so we decided that we'd cut back to spare our audience from having to sit through the ones that really need more rehearsal time. So we've got about 13 songs on our list, all from A.M. or Summer Teeth. Also, since we've now got both the Proto Punks and the Traveling Wilburys ensemble opening, the shorter set list should also make the show a more reasonable length. We probably go

There's lots to do if you ever come visit. And the Old Town School is a really unique place.

We'd love to! I haven't been there in years.

hmmmm. . . . my first concerts were . . . well there was some unknown punk band in a community center basement in south dakota when I was like 14 . . . followed by Fishbone, The B-52s, Primus, De La Soul and other stuff from that era in Chicago, mostly at the Aragon. So probably nothing to be jealous of. Yeah, those were strange days. But have been to two living room shows with Tweedy and got to play a couple songs with him at both.

man, i didn't even know that you could get "let's not get carried away" on iTunes. I just have a live version someone gave me. I think it's from a November show in Madison, WI, but I'd have to check.
-
hmmm, i'm thinking maybe I can get the bonus tracks on i-tunes rather than buy the whole new release. Seems silly to buy the stuff from the first release again just to get the extras. don't know however what the cost comparison will be . . . anyway, wilco already released "is that the thanks" as a free download. ("is that the thanks" is one of my least favorite wilco tunes anyway. i'm already kind of sick of it.)
-
I wonder whether "let's not get carried away" will be on this! jeff did say it would be released in some form eventually. . .

ah that's the beauty. relative to the capo, the chord shape stays the same. it just moves the whole thing up a half step for each fret you move up the capo. so on capo 1, D shape = D# capo 2, D shape = E capo 3, D shape = F and so on. but I've had a long day and I'm sleepy so I could be talking back-ass-ward. anyway, I play mostly piano, so when someone hands me a sheet written out for guitar with capo, i have to think it through backward in order to play it on keys. nice little brain exercise when you're trying to keep up with guitars in a jam session.

In case anyone is interested in seeing a bunch of goofy Wilco fans attempt to play Wilco tunes live in Chicago, you've got two opportunities this month! Who? The Late Greats (a.k.a. the Old Town School's Wilco Ensemble, a.k.a. the Wilclones, a.k.a. the Wilcult) What's it all about? A large group of Wilco fans organized nearly 3 years ago by our fearless leader, song-figuring-out ninja, and popular Old Town School music instructor, Bobby G attempts to perform Wilco songs live. When and Where? Tonight (Oct. 5), starting around 7 p.m. Old Town School of Folk Music @ 4544 N Lincoln The L

that just might be the best video ever.

gotta admit, i'm going mostly off the early son volt and what i saw live last year. the early stuff didn't grab me and the live show really turned me off so i didn't want to listen to the more recent stuff. maybe i'll give the most recent albums a listen.
-
Would everyone want Wilco to release more live albums?
yankee replied to justincolts's topic in Just A Fan
kicking television rocks. i'd love another live double cd. -
hmmmm . . . interesting. personally, i think the current wilco line up is great and i wouldn't change it. it seems to work for where they are now musically. they're producing great stuff and the musicianship is just amazing. i would probably pay more to see the current wilco line up than i would for wilco with bennett. unless bennett was an addition, and not replacing any of the current members. for that . . . i'd pay the same as i would for the current wilco line up.
-
hmmmm . . . . not likely to happen. i might go if it was free . . . and really close to my house . . . and i had nothing better to do that night . . . but you'd have to pay me to go see son volt again. YAWN!!!!! personally, i'd rather go see wilco, golden smog, loose fur, or any number of unknown local bands. i like jeff's songwriting but jay's stuff doesn't really interest me. i like some of the tupelo stuff, but prefer jeff's songs in the tupelo collection. i find jay's voice annoying and whiny. his songs all sound exactly the same to my ear. basically, i'm interested in

last year they played madison thanksgiving weekend at the barrymore, which is about the size of the vic. plus, the barrymore has nice local brew beers for way less any concert venue i've been to in chicago. i lucked out cause my parents live in madison so i was able to see wilco there while visiting for thankgiving. totally sweet venue. (last time they were in madison it was at a bigger space downtown.) i also ended up getting tickets to a thanksgiving show at the auditorium last year. it's a nice place, but our seats weren't great, so i enjoyed the madison show much more. if only they'd

definitely kick-ass people! and really accessible - living in chicago, they're so accessible you'd almost think they were still a small local act. you might find yourself standing next to john in line for the golden smog show, or walking by nels and glen in the audience at an autumn defense show and then talking instruments with john after the show, or bumping into jeff while shopping for guitar gear. jeff even popped in on one of my guitar teacher's classes once while the class was playing a wilco tune! from my experiences and all the stories i've heard from friends who've met various membe
