  1. at least it's on the audio recording.
  2. awesome. i hear it's gonna be a double disc set this time! i wonder whether they included the nintendo wii story . . .
  3. dude, you rock! see you at the DVD release party?
  4. thanks groo! drop by and jam with us some time. BG is gonna be in a play at victory gardens and won't be teaching at old town next session!
  5. Good point, gotta borrow that DVD from someone again. Watched it when it first came out before I got more into the music. Lyrics and songwriting came up at the Feb. living room show this year. Since the group was made up of musicians (most of us amateurs with other jobs) it was more of a living room group jam session than a concert. Jeff poked fun at his lyrics for some of songs (Pecan Pie, Walken, Kicking Television). "Yeah, you guys pick some songs with some really great lyrics." (said with Jeff's typical sarcastic dry humor). Anyway, I like both the more straightforward lyrics and th
  6. Anyone got notes, tabs, chords, whatever for Can't Stand It? I've never tried this one. Got to learn the piano/organ/keyboard effects stuff so I can do my part in a crazy scheme to perform all of A.M. and Summer Teeth live with a crew of about 15 musicians.
  7. I would move back to Madison if I could find a job there, but UW grads just don't want to move. yeah, good point. lots of people want to live in madison, but with so many university grads who would love to stay, the job market can be tough. if you have an offer there, that's pretty sweet! coming from the UP, i'm guessing you'd love it. and when you want to check out the bigger city, chicago is an easy weekend trip (2-3 hours drive). good luck!
  8. I went to grad school there and my parents lived there now. It's a really nice town, with a reasonable cost of living. It's big enough to have things to do (bars, coffee shops, restaurants, live music, etc.,) but small enough that it's easy to get around and it's pretty laid back. Having both the university and the state capital means it has more to offer than the average town its size. Where are you living now? If you're coming from a smaller town, I expect that you will love it in Madison. I'm from Chicago, so after a couple of years there in grad school, it started feeling too small
  9. 1 signed vinyl copy of AGIB 2 signed living room concert posters (2006 and 2007) 1 very heavy black binder containing lyrics, chords, guitar tabs, and piano notes for tunes by wilco, including some out-takes, extras, and a few golden smog tunes. some sheets are covered in scribbles about where solos and effects go, and some are stained with beer . . . and possibly blood. (It's not rock and roll until someone in the band plays so hard their hands bleed.)
  10. The riff in Hate it Here is almost identical to the riff in a Beatles song . . . Jeff: Hate it here (na na na na na na na na) When you're gone (na na na na na na na na) John: You say it's your birthday (na na na na na na na na) Well happy birthday to you (na na na na na na na na) (OK, I don't know which Beatle wrote that one, but you could mix up the two songs easy.)
  11. Which brings about my question, what songs should I start out with? My roomate is into Metallica and Incubus and the like, and I can't say I'm a fan. Are there any Wilco/Tupelo/Loose Fur songs that could show my hands around a guitar to get familiar with playing? California Stars is super easy.
  12. I thought he seemed pretty average. Or maybe just barely on the short side of average. But then, I'm 5'3" so it's relative I guess. Now Mayor Daley, that guy is SHORT. Seeing him at an event here in Chicago really surprised me. He's barely taller than me.

    Summerteeth

When it comes to most artists, I can own one or two of their albums and feel that's enough because they start to repeat themselves. With Wilco, I have to own all of them because they are all different. The Wilco class at the Old Town School of Folk Music is is currently learning Summerteeth. It's the last album in the collection that we haven't done yet, other than a few tracks from AM. I'm working on the keyboard parts and wondering how we're gonna pull some of it off with just one keyboard player. Our pedal steel player might be filling in some of the more organ type sounds. Basica
  14. I dreamed I was hanging out with a bunch of friends in a buddy's living room, and we were all having a blast playing Wilco songs. Then Jeff and Sue showed up at the door and Jeff got out a guitar and started playing with us. We jammed along with Jeff all night and he was really cool and told funny stories and talked about songwriting and instruments and just joked around like he was one of the gang. . . . . oh wait . . . was that a dream? Kind of seems like it . . . but no, that actually happened. But it seems like it was a dream! Actually, I've never had a dream about Wilco, bu
  15. hey groo, you could check with our english guitar player. hey first friday it tomorrow. we'll probably be there.
  16. If anyone figures out how to play Hey Chicken live, I'd love to hear about it. I heard that Jeff might have told someone that it's never been played live.
  17. yep. that's the one. got a copy from my english band-mate. it's pretty cool!
  18. Good luck with your gig! I'll be busy working on some Wilco tunes at the Old Town School that night, but hope to see you play again soon!
  19. cool, that was a great show on how music works. i want to watch it again. it really clarified some of the ideas behind music theory and made it interesting!
  20. I'm a member of the Sleets and I played with Some Strange Purse (made up of 4 women), Burrito Palace Penthouse Pals, and Family Gardeners. As for group, here's a general description: All but one or two of the people on the recording are based in Chicago or the Chicago area. Ages range from 19 to . . . well, I think we've got every decade covered up to maybe 60-something. Nearly all of the people on this recording are or have been students at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, and most have been members of the school's Wilco class. Yes, there's a class devoted to playing son
  21. counting down the hours to this fun jam. hope to see some of the VC crew there to share the love of the music. cheers.
  22. it's like a party, with a bunch of people jamming out on the tunes from sbs. and of course, proto punk and dylan will be fun jams too!
  23. Come out and see the Late Greats this Friday, June 22! Here's another chance to come out and watch a bunch of Wilco fans play some our favorite tunes. This time, we're going to play the new album, live. The Late Greats performing Sky Blue Sky with Jimmy T and the Bob Dylan ensemble Bob Goins and the Proto Punk ensemble Friday, June 22, 7 p.m. 909 W. Armitage, Old Town School of Folk Music. No cover. BYOB. More about the Late Greats at http://web.mac.com/blastingfonda/
  24. Good luck, I'd be curious to see what you come up with. My instructor from the Old Town School of Folk music came up with a nice chord sheet. I can't distribute his work, but I can say it's got some crazy chords. I'm working on the piano part.
