(The Album) vs. American Central Dust
CortezTheKiller replied to Dean Moriarty's topic in Someone Else's Song
Forced and clunky? Without the "snorting of one's father," "Cocaine and Ashes" doesn't exist. "I snorted my father and I'm still alive." -

It's been stated before, but it bears repeating, the official release of Old Ways is fucking horrible. I'll defer to a lyric from the latest "lazy" offering from Jay Farrar to describe it.... "so much promise with so much pain."

Not sure these are played on the radio, as I don't really listen either, but "All the Wine" The National and "Women Without Whiskey" Drive-By Truckers immediately come to mind. -
I feel your pain/joy. Good luck.

You are correct. It's his debut album. I like it a lot. Then again, I pretty much like all his albums. His latest, Just Us Kids, is excellent. I'm also a huge fan of Live in Aught-Three. Definitive version of "Choctaw Bingo" on that one.

I have an earlier version of it off one of the Athfest albums. Great song.

I've had one spin with the album. I'm sure there are many others here that could do a much better job describing them to you. I will say that I hear a strong Cowboy Junkies vibe. Other than I liked my first listen, I can't really give you any more.

It leaked a couple of days ago. It's a collection of unreleased songs from 2003-2008. It is slated for an official release 9/1/09. The only song I'd never heard before is "Mama Bake a Pie," which I like a lot. Several of the songs (George Jones Talkin', Car Dealer War, Well Runs Dry) were made available about 3 years ago as part of something called "Let There Be Rocktober." You can still download them for free here. Rebels is a Petty cover. Play It All Night Long a Zevon cover. Like a Rolling Stone is pretty obvious. Mrs. Claus' Kimono was released digitally a few years ago for free a
