  1. I'd put it just a small notch below those two. Either way, it is a great, great song.
  2. I'm not sure I'd put it at the top, but it's pretty damn close.
  3. Listen to "Methamphetamine" and then throw on ACD.
  4. Hard to do when it's now Son Volt 3.0 with the departure of Brad Rice and the additions of Chris Masterson and Mark Spencer.
  5. I guess it's all about your entry point to Son Volt. This album definitely sounds more like the first two Son Volt albums do. Okemah and The Search represent departures from the "Son Volt sound" to a certain extent, and feature a different line-up - commonly referred to as Son Volt 2.0.
  6. No Depression's take on ACD.
  7. I think the lyrics are big part of what makes Son Volt special. However, for me, the manner in which they are delivered and the accompanying music are just as important.
  8. The irony being most of his records don't rock out. I don't think he helped matters by breaking into "Tonight's the Night" and "Out on the Weekend" on Trials and Errors. My favorite song on the new album is the one where he does rock out - "The Handing Down." That said, I think the whole album is very good.
  9. Listen to "Roll On," "No Turning Back," & "Pushed Too Far" and then let's talk.
  10. You're just bitter that Jay didn't crush a harmonica on this album.
  11. It's impossible to come into a new album by one of your favorite artists and not have some level of expectation - fair or unfair. Before hearing ACD, I had read some articles with comparisons to Trace and Straightaways. My expectations rose. I thought there's no fuckin' way this album can stand up to those classics. After more than a month of regular listening, I can say it absolutely does. I love pretty much everything about American Central Dust. I think Jay's voice sounds terrific. The pedal steel on this record is phenominal. The lyrics are poetic and thought-provoking. The slide
  12. To each their own, but I think all the post-WST Son Volt records are better than WST.
