  1. I know, I don't know why I got tense.. I have had to defend Eric on this forum before which is crazy.  But it's cool.  Subjective, and all that.  This is a fun/dumb thread after all.

This is a good read though:

    http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greatest-artists-of-all-time-19691231/eric-clapton-20110420

"Eric Clapton is the most important and influential guitar player that has ever lived, is still living or ever will live."

  2. My favorites so far have been

    1. Dr. Dog - B-Room

    2. Kurt Vile - Wakin' On A Pretty Daze

    3. Deerhunter - Monomania

    4. Daniel Romano - Come Cry With Me

    5. The National - Trouble Will Find Me (never really got into them before but this is a damn fine record)

That Jason Isbell album gets an honorable mention, but it didn't seem to have a very long shelf life for me.

Only real disappointment this year has been "The Terror" by The Flaming Lips.

  3. C'mon, what do you guys think after more listens?  Did I kill the thread already?  Was my review that weak?  I'm still loving it.. I listen every day.

Also, snagged tickets to see them at The Orange Peel (my favorite venue in the world) on Nov. 3rd.   :dancing

  4. Love love love the new record.  It's your usual Dr. Dog psychedelic/folk rock but there so many interesting things going on.  Several instruments/sounds in every song (a good headphones record) and of course Toby kills it on bass.  I picked up limited deluxe LP which comes with a CD and a 7" of "Humble Passenger".

    A few that stand out:

The Truth is a nice laidback soul tune.  Loved this tune since I heard it months ago.

Broken Heart - One of the more poppier, nod your head tunes.

Distant Light - Fun song that reminds me of their earlier material from the Easy Beat days.

Too Weak to Ramble - For some reason this song reminds me of Country Roads.  But the production is amazing.  It's sort of haunting as you can hear Toby's booming voice echo off of the walls of the studio.

Long Way Down - What can I say.. The deep bass grove.. This song is awesome.

Love - Another poppy tune with a great hook for the chorus.

Speaking of JTE, I was at one of his shows recently and he went off on a rant about how no one makes country music anymore. At least not how he defines it. So I would suggest that "hating country music" is a pervasive opinion among knowledgeable people.

Yeah he goes off on that rant quite often (he did both the times I saw him).  He is right, but there are still a few exceptions out there, Daniel Romano is one.

  6. I caved.

First listen, I thought it was a ok.  Then I started listening this morning and I loved it.  Many more listens are required for me to offer my full review though.

None of the doctor dog albums grabbed me immediately, so this is normal (except for Easy Beat).
