I agree that reading is more than just words on a page, and there is a sort of sensual (for lack of a better word.) tactile component as well, however, the olfactory, ahem, scent-ual aspect, though important, sort of diminishes over time as the story becomes the central focus

This lends credence to Peter Singers pro-choice argument that, given skin cells now have the potential to become a fully functional human, if this line of research pans out, and it now appears as though it will, should we afford skin cells the same sacredness some associate with human embryos? At this time, I assume most people would say no, but, given these sorts of advances, the line between a naturally occurring embryo and a cloned, or engineered (grown from human skin cells.) embryo becomes blurred. "There are number of things that can be said about the specific speech that Bush made,"

On a related note, for those interested, the following link will take you to a brilliant essay written by one of our most important contemporary writers, Don DeLillo, entitled

I wholeheartedly agree that the investigations into the security breaches, ineptitude, in some cases, gross incompetence preceding and following the events of 9/11 were a sham, poorly handled and, in some cases, an utter joke. Bush and Cheney testifying together, without going under oath comes to mind

Though my contempt for this administration knows no bounds, ok, maybe that

Every presidential candidate sounds like a repenting, unfaithful boyfriend/girlfriend, they keep making promises, tell you they and everything else will change, get your hopes up, and then, when given yet another chance, nothing changes, leaving you to feel even more lonely and disillusioned. I really want to get excited about a candidate, but really, what are the chances of seeing any real change? Even, if by some sort of miracle, Kucinich was to be elected, he wouldn

Not really - I'm more concerned about their sexual orientation(s).

Though my wife and I are vegetarians, it hasn't stopped my Aunt from purchasing us an Outback gift certificate for four consecutive Christmas'. Nor has is deterred my mom from offering to cook us "a nice piece of chicken" every time the wife and I visit - though, in her defense, I've only been a vegetarian for a little over twenty years - so, yeah. Give me your address, and, if I "luck out" again this Christmas, the certificate is yours.

As a vegetarian, their menu does not quite appeal to me, so, to answer your question - no.

Outback steakhouse and its founders are major contributors, via the Outback Steakhouse PAC, to the Republican Party, contributing $303,015 and $334,197 for the 2000 and 2004 election cycles, respectively. So Kevin, congratulations, you're helping to ensure the Republican Party remains strong and well funded. Ironic considering he (of Montreal) released an album entitled - "If He Is Protecting Our Nation... Who Is Protecting Big Oil, Our Children?" Keep feeding the hand that bites you - honest to christ..... http://www.sptimes.com/2004/10/31/Business...PAC_house.shtml

This is, of course, the same Kevin Barnes who allowed Outback Steakhouse to change the lyrics of his song - a faux pas others who were ok with the Wilco decision thought went too far. El - I owe you a huge apology - I was attempting sarcastic and facetious, but what I came off as was cruel - and for that, I offer my sincerest apology. I went back and removed the original post - for what it

Have we moved on to beating dead goats now?

Thanks for doing the same.

See, here they come, right on cue. I told you they'd be back, Gary, I told you. (this does not refer to Beltmann of course - he engages in actual conversation, and does an exceptional job of it, unlike those who keep remarking on the ridiculousness of threads they love to hate, without ever adding much of anything - perpetuating the life of a thread they claim they'd like to see dead.)

I knew I could count on you, Gary.

Yes, I am, now go back answer my question(s).

Exactly, but the discussion we are/were having centered around livable wage vs. minimum wage

Sometimes kids just happen, and given that you are pro-life, surely you would insist an unwed and/or unprepared couple keep the baby
