I live in Greater Los Angeles . . . whats so great about it ? . . . ah yes, Nels Cline does live here o.k., i take it all back. My first Wilco show. We were in Sec. B, Row L, Seats 25 and 23. The sound was excelent. Wico played great . . . Remember they're on the Tonight Show Tonite I'm gonna keep coming back ;-) ---chuck t.

  3. i'm so lo tech, i can't quite get this stuff to work, everythings says on idle . . . but man, what a set, all my favs from sbs, i'm gonna be sobbing tears of joy at the greek LA (thanx again for posting the set list) . . . glad you're feelin better Nels
  4. I don't have the recording, but I am a piano player. I'm o.k. with chords and taking stuff off the record so if anyone could tell me how to legally buy the bonus tracks I'd be happy to transcribed that tune (One True Vine). I did get TTIG off Raspsody for a big 89 cents. I have bought SBS twice now, once for the CD and once again after learning there was a DVD/CD version. I've purchased most of the other albums in the last few years wanting to get familar with the music after Nels joined. Still haven't got Mermaid 1 n 2. So anyway, I'm a legit musician but just not great with tech computer s
  5. Nels WAS in a band with Spinal Tap drummer Ric Parnel (aka Mick Schrempton who exploded and came back as his twin brother Rick Schrempton). . . at the recording session it was like "we're doing a tape with the Spinal Tap guy" . . . later, at a gig where Nels played extroidanairily well (pretty much every one) Ric Parnel turns to me and says " Oh, I get it we're in a band with him" [Nels](who really does have a twin brother) Nels, please take all the rest you need . . . You credit part of you [ability/sucess] to never turning down a gig . . . well, me thinks you've paid your dues brotherman
  6. Kieth Jarret has been my fav. for 30 years, I finally saw some of Miles at Ilse of White(sp) w/Jarret, Jack Dejonette, Chick Corea, Aairto(sp) and a sax player I didn't recognized . . . In 1993 my favourite group was the Nels Cline Trio . . . I'm glad Cecil Taylor took it out, when I heard that stuff it broke down all the walls I love Sarah Vaugn(sp) . . . I use to go see Diane Reeves quite a bit back in the day, shes my favourite living singer . . . the Allan Holdsworth IOU Band was pretty groundbreaking circa 1980-85, he's still got it, it's just that I was floored around 80-81
  7. O.K. I'm gonna skip the poll, and just say I've done em all except heroin. But more importantly, they all stopped working at some point. I've been clean and sober for 11 years and 11 months. Part of why SBS is such a moving album to me is that JT was clean while recording it (i think, correct me if i'm wrong). Most people don't have a problem with social drinking or smoking a joint at a concert. But me, i ended up crashing cars spending a night or two in jail, passing out on stage . . . etc. etc. etc. There is always help out there . . .
  8. I haven't seen Zappa Plays Zappa. But I've heard good things about it. I saw the drummer, Joe Travers, play this summer with Zappa Alum Mike Keneally. It was just phenomenal. Joe was going ZPZ rehearesals that week and just smokin on the Keneally gigs as well. He and MK did the Black Page. (I posted bout it in this forum.) It was in San Pedro and Doug Lunn was playing bass so I had to go. It was 20 bucks but well worth it. Keneally didn't even rehearse with Doug since they have a history. I think Dweezil really is taking this ZPZ seriously, woodshedding his dads stuff, rehearsing the ban

  10. Your welcome. I figured Nels would have some gigs in during the tour break I had checked his web site earlier this week but it was to soon after europe. I forget to check again till Friday. Thank YOU for posting about the event. I didn't make but wanted to . . . I remember going to New Music Mondays at the Alligator in the mid 90's all the time to see the Nels Cline Trio . . . One night Andy Summers from the Police sat down next to me at the bar . . . The gigs back east are violinist Jenny Scheinman's. Nels, Jenny, and Todd Sickafoose are also in drummer Scott Amendola's band. Jenn
  11. Check out some Wu Shu for some cool drunken forms. Drunken Monkey is always a favourite. Seriously, I saw the Bejing Wu Shu Team in the 80's. The awsome Tai Chi and drunken forms were my favourites. Plus the spectactcular Kung Fu and weapons forms. O.K. the PBS thing might start in some East Coast Cities as early as tonight, but I saw mostly next week listed when googling. It's called "Spiral Fitness With David Carradine and Rob Moses" I saw some listings for Detroit, Colarado, Alabama, Wisconson . . . and southern California . . . probably more, I don't know who else picked it up. Rob's y
  12. So Nels plays in Woodstock on 8/4, 3 days before you guys have your summit. Where's Colony Cafe ? . . . figured I'd check the date when I saw Woodstock NY on his web site . . . probably j j jazz or something . . . "Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny"----Frank Zappa ---chuck t. (in southern california)
  13. There are some shows listed on nels website starting Sat. 7/28 in Los Angeles 7:30pm at Farmlab. 1745 N. Spring St. unit #4 (323)226-1158, free show I think, lots of folks on the bill: Accidently on Purpose: The Camels Back "This evening of music dance features performers such as Nels Cline, Oguri, Robert Scott, Jesske Hume and Yuval Ron's installation and performanceof a giant harp . . . These guys at Farmlab bought 110 displaced trees after the eviction of the South Central Farmers, and moved them to the Huntington Library and Botanic Garden . . . (I think those images of Darryll Hanna
  14. So there was this movie . . . "Bound For Glory" about the life of Woody Guthrie. Anyway, David Caridine played Woody , , , so now that we can link to Wilco . . . That schtuff, Shaolin Kung Fu, referenced in the old Kung Fu series, incorparated a whole lotta styles. Mr Rain metioned Tai Chi which can used for health your whole life. There's a million people in China practicing Tai Chi every morning all ages. There was a school here in so cal in the 70's and 80's Nothern Shaolin/Tai Chi Praying Mantis that taught some pretty creative stuff. Very effective and also very beautifull. There a
  15. Yeah the 18th it is. So I'm thinkin "God" will come and talk to lil Bush in the backyard pet cemetary area, ya see seems lil george can't keep his pet's alive for very long and the gravesite cross's keep increasing . . . anybody see any parrallels ? Anyway George sr. and Barbara have already talked to lil Bush out back during/or after a burial and brought up the God thing (seems he only talks to republicans) So whats "God" gonna say? . . . any ideas ?
  16. i shared a stage w/ nels, but now i'm a "major nobody" rick schrempton was there to . . . rick is the twin brother of mick schrempton who of course exploded whilst playing with spinal tap
  17. I saw the one where lil bush and lil tony blair are cheerleaders, anyway, the co-inky-dink is the soundtrack music writers went into Toni Basils "Oh Mickey Your so Fine" . . . so the band on the original Toni Basil record, Zoo Drive, included Doug Lunn, Ric Parnel and John Goodsall . . . (Doug Lunn, Ric Parnel, Nels Cline, Walter Zooi, myself and others did some gigs as Boilermaker in the 90's) So anyway, 25 years after Toni Basil invaded our collective physche with one of the first music videos, the song is still part of pop culture. More VW comercials - more u.s rep. calling for impe
  18. Yikes, that was some scarry stuff. Mike Keneally Band played in San Pedro last night at Rosalie and Alvas performance space. I'd been meaning to see a show at Alvas for a while and this one I just couldn't pass up. Zappa alum, Keneally was playin his friggin ass off . . . you could tell he dug the unique atmosphere at Alvas (it was his first gig at this space). It holds about 60 people very comfortable and the band had as much room as the wanted to set up. I'd seen him once before with Beer For Dplphins opening for Gong at Luna Park in the 90's. But I didn't realize what a quick mind and origi
