  1. Thoughts?

I've been looking forward to it, pretty disappointed so far. The main characters seem tired or depressed, and it's very Nancy-centric. Not much happening with the boys, and the new peripheral characters/storylines don't look like they'll be significant. (except maybe Counsellor Ed)

I miss Esteban, and Guillermo. I'm even starting to miss Celia.

  2. That Daytrotter session is freaking fantastic: I've listened to it about 50 times.

Are there any concerts/bootlegs of him playing shows like this (him + minimal accompaniment) - soundboards at that?

If you haven't heard the 2-disc Around The Well, it's a terrific release. Some amazing covers on that one as well.

Now I have to go check out the Daytrotter thing.

  3. I am a big I&W fan, but I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about the new record. I appreciate when artists challenge themselves and not just recycle ideas. However, I really loved the spartan, stripped-down folk songs of Sam's earlier work. The "everything but the sink" approach is not quite working for me (stole that phrase from another fansite).

I am gonna have to give this one some time; i doesn't grab me right off the bat...

Put me in the same camp. The new record sounds good but...I loved Around The Well, even though many of the songs were barely above a whisper they perfectly showcased what Sam and Sara do best. Just put some headphones on and be transported.

  4. YES. Those are unreal. Especially Pressing On. Not a song I'd ever paid attention to by Dylan. But that cover is fantastic.

John Doe must have more Soul in his voice than any white singer since Van Morrison. thumbup.gif

  5. How F'ing nuts would a Boston-Montreal Conference Final be?? One of the great playoff rivalries in sports. I think it would be one of the hardest fought series imaginable. Not to discount Philly, they could win and have a GREAT series v. Montreal (just minus some of the bad blood going in, but I'm sure they'd develop it in no time)!

Boston and Montreal played in the 1st or 2nd round two years ago, it was a very good series and went to 7 games...game 6 was one of the best hockey games I've ever seen.* Personnel has turned over since then, but the fans in both cities are hardcore.

    * that was the series where Ron Maclean announced Game 7 with "Impossible Boston, Unlikely Montreal!" He's a big Wilco fan.

  6. :cheers

Happy to see Chicago put the Canucks away too. I like Vancouver, but the Hawks are a better team, and more fun to watch. (Van has the Sedins, who make lousy defences look really lousy....it just gets old after awhile)

And we're one step closer to a CHI-MTL final...Oh how sweet that would be, sorry but if that happens I'll be cheering for the Habs all the way.

  7. Holy fuck, some of the comments here are so shallow and thoughtless.

OB, in my opinion you should have dealt with this differently. Family shit is always a strain on a girlfriend. You should not have let your mom treat her like that. You blew it, and she may have lost some of her trust in you, especially since she's dealing with a lot of other things now as well. Plus, who could blame her for not wanting to spend a weekend with them after that? You need to think about what happened from your girlfriend's pov....what your mom did, how you handled it, and why you seem a bit oblivious to her feelings. Sorry to be harsh, but I read the whole thread and that's what I see.

  8. from Wikipedia;

The album was named after a series of letters in the phonetic alphabet that Tweedy had heard on the Irdial box set The Conet Project: Recordings of Shortwave Numbers Stations. On the fourth track of the album 11px-Loudspeaker.svg.png Phonetic Alphabet - Nato (help·info), a woman repeats the words "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" numerous times; a clip from this track was placed in the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot song "Poor Places". Irdial sued Wilco for copyright infringement, and a settlement was reached out of court.
