  1. Sinead wasn't exactly booed off-- she got a lot of boo's (and some cheers) and stood there silently waiting, with her death glare....then she defiantly blasted the audience about freedom and walked off in a huff, if I remember right Kris Kristofferson was there consoling her.

I've seen this show a couple of times on tv, it was great - the performances by Lou Reed, George Harrison, and Neil Young were standouts for sure, and there was a really nice collaboration on My Back Pages with Harrison, Young, Petty, Dylan. GH also introduced Bob who played a really killer It's Alright Ma solo. I don't have the DVD but when I looked at it I noticed that Sinead is left off and so is Sophie B Hawkins -- her performance of I Want You is worth seeking out on Youtube.

edit: oops...the deluxe edition Aman posted above does include everything.

  2. Jeff seemed cranky for the first part of the Lewiston show last summer, but he warmed up later. Based on some of the banter, my guess was that the venue or some other logistics weren't up to par (the sound sucked in some parts of the auditorium).

  3. I last saw them in September, fantastic show. The new album is amazing indeed. This band just keeps doing what they do, writing beautiful songs (ballads and rockers) and performing for their loyal fans...largely in Canada. I hope they never quit. Cuddy and Keelor are such a great songwriting team, and the whole band is so tight.

BTW, for those who may not know- Bob Egan (former Wilco member) has been part of BR for 9-10 years now. :thumbup

  4. Many people say that they hope Wilco will never release a best of, but really, there isn't anything wrong with best of's now is there? They give a good example of what the band sounds like and introduces them to music they can transition into. Plus, if a casual listener only likes a few songs, they can buy a best of that (hopefully) only has the songs they like on there (or the ones they know at least).

I would guess a lot of us think "best of's" are a throwback to the bad old days of the sinister marketing ploys of the recording industry, shoving more "marketable product" down the consumer's throat. Wilco has withstood that whole industry regime for so long that doing something like this would feel like a capitulation of sorts.

  5. I agree with kevan about Match Point- definitely underrated among Woody Allen films. Anyone remember Being Human? That would be my pick for "Robin Williams films". I also thought The Visitor was one of the best films of 2008, but I don't think I was alone in that opinion.

  6. Yeah, I'm kind of at a loss here. Every non live album I like is an amazing studio album. Is there some kind of limit we are looking for? Like great production values?

Exactly. For me an amazing studio album, apart from resonating with my inner being and all that, should have (a) all solid tracks, (b ) a coherent theme or "vibe", and (c ) some really masterful production work.

A few that I think qualify:

    60s - Astral Weeks, Rubber Soul, Hwy61

70s - Loaded, DSOTM, Ziggy Stardust, The Original Soundtrack, A Night At The Opera, Exodus

80s - Avalon, Brothers In Arms, Sheffield Steel, Straight Outta Compton

90s - The Score, The Slim Shady LP, The Ghost Of Tom Joad

00s - At Dawn, 10 New Songs, YHF

These are just my weird picks. The Score (Fugees) would probably be my prime example of a fully realized studio album with outstanding songs and perfectly crafted production. But there are other criteria, like if you feel that the album should sound "live" and raw- in that case I'd point to something like Blood On The Tracks, Nebraska, Tom Joad...
