I was wondering about that too. Verbally he always seems to say it as two words. Could it be the album are got fucked up, and it should have been 'summer teeth'?

Iraq is all of the above, but it's not Vietnam. What made Vietnam so much harder to tolerate, apart from all the atrocities of war, was the Draft. I think that's the key reason you don't see mass youth protests against Iraq...it just doesn't "affect" most of us very directly.

(quick check on wilcobase...) It's one of the standard show openers, and it's been the opener every time they've played it on the SBS tour. God I love wilcobase.
-
Now you're catching on. Don't forget to search AGIB and SBS for winehouse within 100 characters of beehive.

f'rinstance. Since SBS starts with maybe and ends with yeah, I dumped the lyrics into Word and checked the instances of the word "no". It appears only 9 times in total, on 4 songs (out of 1703 words). Is that a record for Wilco? Dunno. But I find these sort of patterns semi interesting in the context of all the press about SBS being a more "positive" record. I suppose you'd have to add "not", "don't", "won't", shouldn't", etc to get the real tally of negative words. (that took me less than 5 mins btw)

C'mon gang, you can do better. Especially with copy/paste and modern word processors. Monosyllabics? Word counts? Numerology?

I'm happy I took my happy pills this morning.

Holy hog hell. There's already WAY too much guitar talent on that stage! Wow.

Well, I dont mind being a mildly 'rabid fan', but to be an obsessive fan would fall under....uh, "disturbing" behavior. Where I come from at least. But if I'm safe with y'all here in the loony farm, then I can change the title to something more benign and welcoming.

I'm sure I'm not the first to notice some of these apparent "weirdisms" (?). YHF: the album starts with "I" and ends with "You". SBS: starts with "Maybe" and ends with "Yeah". Sure, I need a life. And I really try not to read too much into stuff. But let's hear a few more examples.

speaking of It's Just That Simple.... Can someone shed some more light on this song for me? I know John wrote and sang it, and a quick look at Wilcobase shows it's been performed TWICE since 1995 - once in '03 and in '04. I think it's a great song and seems to fit well in the context of A.M. John does a semi-passable impression of Rick Danko, with a cryptic 'cripple' reference even. Ok...maybe not. Ricko was a helluva singer. Just wondered why they don't play it more. Or does John have stage fright?

I love how he post-edits his own questions with self deprecating humor. If I ever get to converse with Jeff I'm sure I'll be equally vaccuous.

That's such a hilarious interview. I'd like to read the whole story too, if someone wouldn't mind scanning it.

Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" Announcement
W(TF) replied to SquashedFrog's topic in Someone Else's Song
I know...I didn't mean you. I meant "you", as in anyone who can do it. lol People seem to forget that [it] may not be the best Dylan (or Springsteen) song ever penned, but it's still a motherfucker. If they can even sit down and play & sing it convincingly, I'll be mighty impressed. -
I have one ticket -- for me, and only a 50-50 chance that I'll be able to go. Ping me around Sept.7 if you still need one.

Yep....get back to me when you've written a song that compares to Nettie Moore, or Workingman Blues. I'll be happy to eat some crow. -

You're right; but keep in mind, everything Dylan did in '65 and '66 was panned-- if not by the critics, then certainly by the folk elite and by many of his early fans. He was harshly accused of selling out. And very wrongly as it turned out. The point being that he marches to his own drumbeat, always has. He's always said he makes the art for himself and not the audience. And he's talked about how impossible it is to write songs like those, check the Ed Bradley 60 Mins interview. At this stage in his career I think he's a lot more interested in staying in the scene (i.e. touring), ke -
I know the feeling, and I know I'm a latecomer. I did try to make the topic more interesting, with the Irving show link. Which is as fresh as a rose, Louie.

this is the link. http://www.owlandbear.com/2007/08/14/hoste...il-21-1999-dvd/ This was filmed for a tv program I believe...quality is very good.

Hey Nerdy; just wanted to clarify, I didn't mean respect us "because we're your elders" or any such BS. I just meant give us some credit as intelligent music fans. That's all....back to your regular sked. Oh yeah-- Ghost Of Tom Joad is an imperfect, but nevertheless amazing record. One of Bruce's most significant releases. Very much in the vein of Nebraska and very nearly its' equal... -
Make a sign, "Casino Queen, for dad".
-
Well, I don't know....maybe. It may not make my ultimate top 5 Wilco songs, but I just think CQ is a terrific song any way you cut it. I could do without the gimmicks on the studio version, but it fits anyway. (especially if you're drinking whiskey..) I've been watching the '99 NYC Irving dvd that's posted up now on owlandbear.com, and that performance of Casino Queen is just insane. It's also the best example of the guys harmonizing on vocals really well in that particular show. Check it out if you haven't seen it!

Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" Announcement
W(TF) replied to SquashedFrog's topic in Someone Else's Song
Sure it does. Your claim that "we" have come to expect so little of Dylan comes off pretty arrogant and condescending - at 19 I didn't think you'd have been a listener in say, 2001 when Love & Theft was issued. That's fine, but it renders your comments somewhat less than credible. Maybe show a bit of respect in your comments, both for the artist and the rest of us. 2 years is barely adequate to appreciate that body of work anyway, imho. No offense intended, I just get a bit bothered by flippant comments, especially when the subject is Bob Dylan.
