There's also the irony of the Tom Verlaine connection in that title. So you who feel there are better shows out there (boots), can you name a few? I've looked at the dvd project but it's a bit mind boggling, something like Dick's Picks would be really good.

I don't think it's that unusual for a "rap legend" to only have one significant record. NWA and Fugees come to mind.
-
Not that I trust music critics...but Illmatic is often refered to as the greatest rap record ever.

No idea...but if it helps, you can watch the title track from one of those Chicago shows here. http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?artist=1160&vid=69283

Great albums from both periods (many listed by the O.P.) but The Fugees' The Score ('95) is the only one I'd have on my top 20 desert island discs, so I have to go with the later period. But I'm just a white kid from the suburbs.

Just in case ppl might think this is the world's most intelligent, or patient, 3 year old... I don't know what the regular CD package looks like, but the giant composite picture of the guys at 'The Loft' inside the gatefold LP is absolutely mesmerising. I stare at it too, it's done really well. GREAT pic. Kids growing up around LP's gives me the warm fuzzies. (that gatefold is almost bigger than your kid!)

What was the question again?

Most people buying these type of LP releases are audiophiles. They're expecting superior sound and are willing to pay for it, but in absolute numbers we're talking about a really small number. Typical runs are 5000 copies for a well known band like Wilco, maybe 25000 for a really anticipated reissue, like the purple Hendrix box. The cost economics are lousy. It's not just the 180 gram platters, it's legalese, distribution, and the fact that only 2-3 major plants remain that still produce records. And lastly, the mastering. Stan Ricker did SBS (he's most famous for the MoFi issues), you s

Sue rocks!

Cool. I should've known it wasn't one show....but it does have a cohesive feeling, and intimate like "you are there".

How do you rate Kicking Television/Live In Chicago? I'm just curious...was this a 9/10, or what. Are there even better shows one can find 'out there'? I've been really digging on KT lately. The set list is amazing, the performances and sound production are superb as well.

Way cool! I have whatever cd version they included in the double LP package..I just have to find the damn thing.

Pretty cool if you can get past the occasional Lincoln commercial. http://entimg.msn.com/i/ExperienceData/p1-...p;ep=Crossroads

I agree. Bring back the draft and guess what? People would actually start to give a fuck. That would be bad for business...

Dunno about that...... ? Lists are always kinda pointless, but this one's at least interesting. (e.g. I think most rock drummer lists would have Ginger Baker and Neil Peart in the top 5. so this list, to me, probably merits a deeper look..but that's just me) I think leaving Mickey Hart off any top 50 list is a grave error tho. And I'd rate Phil Collins higher than some others on that list...

Ditto on Side With The Seeds...that's a mind fuck.

Great news indeed, can't wait to hear Jeff's take. This is gonna kill as well: Knockin' On Heaven's Door--Antony & The Johnsons

You done good. I've only seen one show (this year, cinci), but there were loads of parents with their teens in tow. Grandparents too. Everyone had a blast. You can't go too wrong with Wilco, though occasionally there may be a fight in the crowd, like at any rock concert. i.e. the alcohol factor.
