I broached the subject a while back of VC or its' members having access to interview the members of Wilco. Here's another thought: how about a section (subforum) where we could post comments and questions to the band members...? Obviously there's no guarantee they'd be read or responded to by Wilco, but you never know - it seems the band is pretty in tune with its' fans. Maybe they would welcome the interaction on a limited basis. I'd humbly suggest calling it "Box Full Of Letters".

(chiming in) Probably a better precision machined main bearing/spindle, and a heavier platter - these make a bigger impact on the sound than you might imagine. They reduce all sorts of distortions typically caused by micro-vibrations as well as speed variations. Also you get an uprated tonearm and cartridge...seems like an excellent deal, again. (Pro-ject keep costs down by manufacturing in Eastern Europe) But just keep it "in context" with your other equipment; i.e. the $300 -> 500 jump may be "lost" on your cheap system. If that's the case, you might want to consider, for example,

I mean, it just seems moronic to me. I have enough LP's to start a 'classic rock' (or jazz) radio station...I paid for them all, the artists have all received their royalties. They should pay ME to promote their music, not the other way around. Ultra maroons.

I agree...everyone's entitled to not like it, but it's a bit ignorant to come on a Wilco forum and condescend on people like that. "Go play your Eagles too" isn't a valid criticism, imho. SBS deserves a bit more thought, even if you don't happen to like it.

I know... he gave up his Cdn citizenship to be inducted into the House of Lords or whatever. Still, this story is top headline news in Canada. I'm not sure if it's even a blip on the radar in the States.

"Big Business Wins Again", is my take. I admit I'm a cynic, but isn't it funny how the Canadian and US news services report the same story from a different angle? (or different emphasis) Mine was from cbc.ca , btw.

Sorry from Canada, we sent this slut to Chicago and polluted a nice town with his corrupt greedy bastard ways. Convicted today on three counts of mail fraud + obstructing justice. Lord Black won't serve a day in prison though.

Net radio firms face crippling royalty hikes A U.S. federal court of appeals denied an emergency stay petition from internet radio broadcasters Thursday, clearing the way for potentially crippling online broadcast royalties to take effect Sunday. 'An invoice of more than one billion dollars must be paid in four days, which is unfathomable for an industry that grossed less than $200 million last year.'—Jake Ward of SaveNetRadio SaveNetRadio, a coalition of web broadcasters, had sought the emergency stay from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit

Don't really watch much tv these days, but man do I miss Deadwood.

The Stunt Man The Three Musketeers The Princess Bride Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Hero The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou The Bourne Identity Children Of Men (I really don't smoke very often....I swear)

For some really fun, punk cover versions of old classics, check out Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. Great party music.

By the way, JUST in case someone here has $17K to blow on a turntable, I would recommend flying to Boulder to audition the Teres Audio 460. (that doesn't include any tonearms, btw...lol. The Schroeder arms in this pic must be at least $4K each. Add a couple of Koetsu cartridges and you are in the range of a high end luxury car, or a d/p on a house. argh)

Thank you. I don't want to make any assumptions, but I'll listen to it again with that in mind.

I can't remember if this is right; I've read a ton of Wilco articles lately. Did Jeff's father die in the last few years? I've been wondering about the object of On And On And On's lyrics, if indeed it isn't just "ambiguous", as Tweedy has declared SBS in general. At first I thought he wrote this for his wife, but as I listen to it, he seems to be speaking to someone who's dying. (?)

100% agree. I like to tell people Wilco is "The Band on steroids", coz I believe they've actually surpassed The Band on many levels. Maybe where they are also similar is in how influential they both became - without that being the goal of the thing. Also, I think Jeff has acknowledged that Wilco in recent years has actually tried to follow The Band's model of recording; working closely together in a private space over an extended period. I know The Band ran their own tape decks a lot of the time, I'm not sure if anything Wilco has released was "self-recorded" like that.
-
Glad you mentioned it....this is a very nice deck and from everything I've heard it's a real bargain...cartridge included (and pre-mounted I believe).

And Jeff Tweedy. And Tweedy's oldest son. I don't know if it'll always be my favorite Wilco record, but for now it definitely is. Every Wilco record has been strong, but for me SBS is a record where every song is strong -- and just as important, the whole thing "works" really well as a whole. JM2C and I haven't been seriously into Wilco nearly as long as many of you guys. As for The Band - oh fuck yeah. I'm too young to have seen them perform as a group (with Danko and Manuel), but I've seen enough hours of them on film, and this iteration of Wilco reminds me A LOT of The Band at its'

Definitely Entourage for us.

Was wondering how many posts it would take for someone to mention BL. I think Fear & Loathing was the better "situational" film, but hey maaaan, it's all totally subjective... Anyone here ever see Liquid Sky? Now that was fucking weird!

Back in Feb. I picked up a pair of Sennheiser HD-205's, and I've been pretty happy with them overall. They're "DJ style" cans, i.e. very tight fitting, and I have to say they sound very good for the price (only about 40 bux). Punchy deep bass, and the rest of the spectrum is typically Sennheiser - unoffensive. And with low-end digital sources like the iPod, that's a good thing in my book. My bitch is the fit, they are tight enough to strain my head muscles after half an hour or even less. Check the head-fi.org forum, they have tons of reviews / posts, and a big classifieds section too.

The copy cat trend continues. I'd nominate the two great Stacy Peralta docs, Dogtown/Z-Boys and Riding Giants.

Ditto Dick Dale..... And a little Roy Orbison inhales well, aussi.

Don't even think about it....do it. One show will leave you thirsting for more. This band is sizzling in concert, you'll be awestruck.

Indeed! Axis: Bold As Love, too.
