Got it but I need to give it a more attentive listen. (see above ^ ^ Never been a huge Jack & Meg fan but I guess the 27-page thread on Icky Thump means it must be a significant record....

There have been several incredibly unbelievable good records this decade... 10 New Songs (Leonard Cohen), Modern Times (Bob Dylan), definitely YHF... probably AGIB. All will go down as classics. But I think Sky Blue Sky tops them all, so far. Mesmerizing.
-
I think you meant On and On and On? Mebbe Jeff programmed the last song with some subversive manipulations of our neurons. Tell brain to press 'Repeat'. On and On. You will all be assimilated.
-
That's about half as many as I had 5-6 yrs ago. (seen High Fidelity? that was my apartment, basically) I listen to my vinyl all the time, just in the middle of moving so my stereo and records aren't accessible at the mo.

......I can't play anything but Sky Blue Sky. 3...4...times a day, for weeks now. HELP. (it's not like I'm lacking in choices either...2100 LP's.. 3400 songs on iPod..etc)

wow.......sounds like a terrific show. Great news about the midwest tour, I'll definitely go to Detroit to see Wilco. This whole tour has an air of magic, I envy all of you longtimers that have stuck with the band and seen them progress to this point. I just hope it continues for a few more years... Shea's Theater in Buffalo would be nice, too.

That may be true to an extent, but seems to me Wilco is a band that fusses a lot over their sound. Probably much moreso on studio recordings than live, but still. Music/songwriting first obviously, then performance.. but getting the sound they want down probably isn't too far behind.

I dunno....tv commercials are all pure marketing BS, so I don't care to analyze them too closely. But the Wilco VW ads - tho irritating like ALL ads are - do seem to be in "ok" taste. When Tweedy said, "Some of us even drive them", I think that was a shot accross the bow of the good ship Led Zeppelin, who sold some of their best songs to Cadillac. I have no way of proving this, it's just a hunch. Now obviously, the surviving members of LZ probably DO get chauffered around in Cadillac limos, etc. But c'mon, Cadillac has always represented American Excess. I know, I know...it's all image

The building site is a pit blocked by large white temporary walls, and the walls are plastered for a good 60-70 feet with Sky Blue Sky posters. Maybe a common sight downtown, I dunno. I live out in the boonies now.

Get your camera and go to Avenue Road, up north of Lawrence. Maybe closer to Wilson actually. Look for a construction site on the west side of the road. Great Wilco photo opp.

OK then; from Maddie Hope....to VC'ers. Wilco - Let's Fight [6.2MB] (can host it indefinitely or at least until someone asks me to remove it)

email sent. But with a quick search I turned it up here, already. http://www.msu.edu/~lakinjef/fight.mp3

Yeah, I know. I was just saying "it happens"....occasionally.

No idea why... but, SBS is pretty much "perfect" as is. (I'd like to hear the rest of the song tho, mebbe it would've been a great fit) Tweedy says they put a lot of effort into the album song sequencing.... and he also sez they have so much unreleased stuff in the pipe, he can't even keep track of it all. Eventually you have to cut some stuff.

I saw Bob Dylan in Buffalo two years ago and he played a totally different set from the night before that in Detroit. I think Dylan likes to keep his bands on their toes....he also has a shitload of familiar repertoire to draw from.

That could be worth big bucks on ebay now.

Just curious, how long ago was that? A forum with 6500 members...I would think it should be worthwhile giving it a try. (?)
-
Dumb question - are Nels and Jeff heavily into tube amps? I think Marshall's stacks are solid state, right? I'm into tube stereo gear but as far as guitar amps I must plead some ingnorance.

He did spend an inordinate amount of time talking about the New Orleans recording sessions with Lanois, didn't he. And about Lanois' harley-davidson gang, that moved Bob to buy a '66 Police Special, and that whole bit about riding out in the Louisiana countryside etc.... I thought it was a strange and very interesting part of the book. Especially considering that Dylan was initially not that thrilled with how the session went. Whether it was Lanois that saved Dylan's career, or the tours with the Dead and the Heartbreakers, is an open point of debate.
-
Was it Bono that said Lanois was the best musician he'd ever met? He's produced some good records for U2, Peter Gabriel, Dylan... even Raffi. Some of his own music is just sublime though. I love the atmospheric stuff, not as crazy about the folkie-zydeco tunes.

Any fans? I've been diggin' on his first couple of solo records lately....great music, even with the occasional quasi-religious overtones.

'Zactly. Or you could look at it another way; the record industry (A&R men) went nuts with greed in the 50's and 60's, producing untold billions of crappy LP's (yes it WAS the "Golden Age", but any vinyl nut knows it was also the worst period of commercialization - I typically have to whip through 100 LP's at a yard sale to find one of interest). So they created an industry WAY bigger than it ever should've been, and now all those fat cats are collecting big pensions down in Ft Lauderdale. Artists greedy? F-ck that, the executives are the ones that destroyed everything. And now th
