Attn Kiwis: Nick Bollinger interviews "Wilco" (not sure who exactly - possibly John as seems to be doing most of the press for this leg of the tour) on National Radio between 2 and 3pm today (Saturday 24 May). Might be available as a podcast later on. Also, is anyone planning on documenting the setlist at next week's Wellington show? I did the last one and would be keen to have the night off this time around (but I'd have to know that someone else had it covered). 4 sleeps!!!

What's people reaction when I say...'Dire Straits'
mahinty replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
I haven't seen this much love for The Straits since 1986! They were a fairly influential band for me - the first that I really obsessed about. Although they could do no wrong when I was getting into them and discovering their back-catalogue in the 80s, the only albums that have stood the test of time for me are the first three. Don't get me wrong - there are some great moments on Love over Gold ("Oh but it's a sad reminder, when your organ grinder has to come to you for rent") and Brothers in Arms, too. Twisting Pool the Pool is also great fun. The second live album (On the night) and On Eve -
Sweet clip I'm liking the album - particularly the first half.

I like Nice work

I second that.

Justin Townes Earle announced as support act for Wellington and Auckland. Not sure where that leaves Don McGlashan, who I thought was originally down to open. Perhaps both? I heard that JTE was great when he played here last year.

What Beatles song would you most like to see Wilco cover??
mahinty replied to jdmel's topic in Just A Fan
I'm currently in a Let it Be (an often under-rated album, IMO) phase, and can totally imagine Wilco covering "Across the Universe" or "Don't Let Me Down" -
I bought my Mackie in September ’07 for, I think, NZD500 at the time – around 300-350 of your US dollars, I guess. It would be pretty hard to imagine an electronic product like this not being built in China - and sure enough mine was made in China. I’ve had no problems in the 2+ years that I’ve had it. The things that you can touch and see are solidly constructed – from the extruded aluminium housing of the pod, through to the quality of the knobs, buttons and connectors. From the outside, at least, it gives the appearance of being a high quality piece of gear. I don’t claim to be a hom

I've got no complaints with my Mackie Onyx Satellite. It's solid, reliable, easy to use, and has got top-notch mic pre-amps built-in.
-
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other Wilco songs that have clavinet on them, but for some classic funky wah-wah-clav action check out: and The Band's Up on Cripple Creek

With - a Mackie Onyx Satellite - R0de NT-1A Condenser microphone - Cubase SX software ...and a touch of Mastering in a studio, I've managed to record a few songs that I thought worthy of putting on CD. Have a listen: http://www.myspace.com/meechbrothers I'm pretty happy with it, considering I was pretty much learning on the job.

That is one funky keyboard. You couldn't not be funky with that. Thank goodness for the return of knobs and switches on keyboards. It was looking pretty bland there for about two decades (80s and 90s), but someone realised that keyboard players are people too.

My brother and I decided that the best way finish some songs that we’ve been tinkering away on in the home studio over the last year or so, was to get some of them Mastered and put them out there on one of those old-fashioned CD things. It’s a good feeling to know they are “finished” and that we can now move onto something else. Have a listen: http://www.myspace.com/meechbrothers

Yeah, I think the stage is at the left-hand end of that floor plan.
-
They'll fill it - Wilco's audience grows every year, and you can't under-estimate the 7WC effect. A lot of people heard them for the first time at that Neil Finn gig - and I think they won a lot of new fans that night. The Wellington Town Hall is a great venue, it's capacity of 1600 is only a little bit bigger than The Opera House (1400) which they packed-out in 2008. Given the number of people I've talked to who have kicked themselves for not going to that gig a couple of years ago, getting a couple of hundred extra people along next year should be a piece of cake.
-
Yeah, seems a bit ridiculous. The Ticketek dude told me that GA would be seated.
-
Got 'em! Went for the gallery in the end (A reserve) - central, 3 rows back - might be a bit far away for my liking, but hey, I'm in and that's what counts. I was surprised to hear that the GA area on the floor (stalls) will be seated!! Crazy. Yes, GA is on the floor in front of the stage - but crazily is seated for this gig. A and B reserve are allocated seats upstairs (the "Circle"). It's not a massive venue, so views are pretty good no matter where you are.

Just got a message from my Auckland mate: "Unbelievably they actually called me back, I have my tickets...6 rows back and pretty much centre stage...awesome" Looks like it's all go for AK now.............
-
Checked in with Ticketek at 10am, and now they're using the same line as in Auckland - the Promoter has changed some details and it should be all ready to go later today - time unknown.
-
Just got through to an operator at Ticketek who said there had been a delay in loading that one, and they will now go on sale at 10am. I spoke to a friend in Auckland who was told that the "promoter had withdrawn the listing" - whatever that means.
-
Tickets apparently go on sale today but I can't get through to Ticketek, and there is nothing on their website. Anyone else struggling to buy tix for the Wellie show?
