  1. Spelling “Mum” correctly is hardly tantamount to misrepresentation of the interview subject.
  2. That was an interesting interview. Worth listening to just for the story of how “One Sunday Morning” came to be. The recording on the album was the band’s first take, and then Jeff wrote all those verses to fit their extra-long jam. I like that. Shows that they truly are a collaborative band.
  3. Just a wee Q&A with Jeff in the latest (Nov/Dec 2011) edition of Australian craft/art/culture/hipster magazine, Frankie. Scan attached.
  4. After all of that, I missed it too. It will be broadcast again on Tuesday night (7:30pm) as part of Nick’s regular Sampler show, and then should be available to download after that. Check back here: http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/thesampler
  5. National Radio Sometime between 2 and 3pm 5 November That is all.
  6. For the record, here's one from the New Zealand Herald: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/music/news/article.cfm?c_id=264&objectid=10755581 Not a lot of new ground here - these reviews are all starting to sound the same.....
  7. Are the moving eyeballs in Mikael's macrame owl a recent addition? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUDgkgr7Fuo
  8. My pre-order arrived here in New Zealand on the 23rd. I didn' t think it would get here is such good time, considering I chose the cheapest freight option. It made for a particularly sweet Friday - even more so when the official release in NZ isn't until Monday. I've been loving it. Best album I've bought in ages. Best Wilco album since Ghost.
  9. Anyone know if the tv show performance (and/or webcast) is available to watch online somewhere (on a site that plays outside of the US)?
  10. BINGO! I haven't been this excited by some new music for some time. I only listened to the first half of the record during the stream, but my first thought was this was their best stuff since AGIB. I was grinning like a fool for the duration (which, to the outside world, appears only slightly different to my regular look).
  11. I can't tell you much about Yamahas, and those fancy workstations, but I can tell you that I never regretted buying a Nord. They are incredibly playable and intuitive - they may be digital but they have a great feel. In your search, do not underestimate simplicity. The Nord's dedicated knobs and buttons were a breath of fresh air when they first came on the market. For too long keyboards were all about soft buttons and menus - and some of today's Workstations are still like that. Korg's SV1 is similar to the Nord Electro, and looks cool and has a good piano sound: See here fo
  12. That photo that came with the press release is the most encouraging thing - they look like a tight band furtively experimenting. I am excited. Is that a drum machine that Mikael is playing with?
  13. Even though he rarely plays electric these days, if he needs over-drive, or even a little gain, my brother can't go past his Hot Cake:
  14. Was it worth it? (I think I probably already know the answer to that) I live in NZ, and would seriously think about making the trip to a future Solid Sound (if everything else in my life at the time was in alignment).
  15. I finally go this bad boy framed:
  16. Nice work Sounds great An amazing feel, especially considering the two of you weren't even in the same room when you recorded it. Keep at it.
  17. I have nothing original to add, I'm actually a little speechless. What a frickin' set! Australia, the Lucky country, indeed.
  18. Yo Paul, I will definitely track down some Big Star. It's a pity that I didn't meet you guys when you were here in '08 - I would have enjoyed showing you the sights - although it sounds like you found plenty of cool stuff all by yourselves. Next time. Or perhaps I should visit the States? May be see a few wilco shows.....
  19. Other stories that Jeff shared: He spent some of his time in Wellington in a cemetery. Apparently we have cool headstones. Made him "want to die"!?!They no longer have the rugs on stage as they were ruined by flooding at Red Rocks. They have since discovered they are better off without them and everything sounds better now It was apparently easy to spot the Americans at the Japan shows as they were taller than everyone else - like whack-a-mole I also have heard of one confirmed sighting of Pat post-gig at the best bar in town, Mighty Mighty. Out.
  20. I read elsewhere on the interweb that someone involved with the Yeastie Boys brewery dropped off a few packs of Pot Kettle Black for the band on their recent NZ visit. That I guess proves that the name is indeed a wilco reference.
  21. Hey B - I can't speak for all of New Zealand, but I don't know any of their stuff. I only know what I've read on VC and the like. I actually had to look up an older setlist to get the title of the song right.
  22. Terrific show, of course. Way more ROCK than the last gig here. Nice to get the contrast. Jeff was in fine form. Excellent banter that kicked off with him asking a girl why she was talking through the show - she made the mistake of talking back. He then introduced the next song (She's a jar) as coincidentally being a song about hitting women - which sounds quite wrong in type, but was delivered in good spirits. Replacement of the bass rig after it failed during You Never Know gave Jeff plenty of time to chat, which was great. What a band! What a show. Got to admire their stamina - they g

Never fear, my furry American friends, the setlist will be recorded in a methodicalised fashion. I'm there for you. It should be quite a different vibe to last time, now that we've got the GA standing area. 3 sleeps.
