Smudge- Manilow and Tea, Toast and Turmoil (these guys did the Lemonheads sound better than the Lemonheads)
wow, smudge ... not sure they're under-rated because i'm not sure they're even rated ... but they are great ...
anything and everything by Beatnik Filmstars (the British Guided by Voicesi thought guided by voices is the british guided by voices!

interesting thread, agree with many choices here ... the first two falkner records, definitely Ram, absolutely tusk
i guess in a lot of cases these records are underrated because they were dismissed initially as not being the same as the artist's previous work -- obviously ram was very soon after the beatles, tusk followed rumours, and even falkner's stuff was on the heels of some pretty highly regarded jellyfish stuff
i'd also throw mag earwhig! into the same category. following the incomprable trio of bee thousand, alien lanes and under the bushes under the stars and also a major personnel change. was widely overlooked and considered a huge disappointment but time has shown it to be pretty freaking great
i'd also suggest Trick of the Tail, the first genesis record post-peter gabriel but actually quite brilliant

anybody going to the free show in philly tonight? will be a beautiful night & huge crowd ... fun times
-
the DP from Englishtown '77, too.
was just listening to this show a couple days ago
a personal favorite, and yeah, the They Love Each Other is great
you can just feel the heat bubbling up through the music

hardwood floor, I couldn't care less if you expressed a differing opinion from mine about something. I actually agree with you about REM (short of the 'dishonest' comment). It's your attitude that irks me - you come across as smug, and it's ironic when you cry out that people are attacking you for having a differing opinion, when your opinion constantly comes across as an attack (or at least insulting) in the first place.
hilarious
seriously, you're complaining because some guy on an internet music message board has an attitude you don't like?
stop the presses
this place is freaking precious
-
very talented guy
glad to see he's healthy and productive
look forward to hearing all this stuff
-
english and subjectivity are not his "strong points".
OK, now we think we're clever by finding mistakes in posts?
I've never seen a message board where the frequent posters show so much rage and fury toward those with differing opinions.
It's sad when people are so close-minded and insecure they can't deal with varying opinions on something as subjective as art, books or music.
Now, please, find some errors in my post so you can feel good about yourself for a few minutes.
-
funny, that's what i think of every time i see one of your posts
pretty sad you can't handle somebody having different opinions than you
why don't you go find a message board where everybody has the exact same taste. that would be real interesting
-
I don't like Accelerate either, but what's more dishonest--this record, or a random listener somewhere pretending he knows, beyond doubt, exactly what the band's motivations and ambitions were when recording this record?
whatever, pal
you interpret things the way you want to, i'll do the same
this is the internet. the land of opinions.
this album is REM admitting they have no ideas left
it's almost as boring as that bon iver record ever around here is in love with
-
man, didn't even realize ... but i did listen to baltimore 1973 driving across a vast expanse of the midwest today
miss him
-
The New Nada Surf is amazing...but 1 star for REM? Why the distaste?
because it blows?
i find it an incredibly dishonest record
this is REM finally realizing their last few albums were lifeless and selling less and less, so they listened to their fans - "we miss the old REM" - and recorded a record that sounds like old REM but without the songs. this is REM product. REM karaoke.
-
Meh
-
awesome
$57 at zoellner
would kind of like to see byrne, but just can't pull the trigger on $57 + service charges
-
I think it's a pretty awesome album and I have significantly better taste in music than you
anybody who feels compelled to brag that he has good taste in music never does
-
Character flaw. It's cool.
bland and faceless
almost as overrated as my morning jacket
-
weird how almost everybody on this board is so in love with the same stuff - bon iver, raconteurs, fleet foxes, dr. dog, my morning jacket, drive by truckers ...
i can't stand any of those
and the REM and vampire weekend records? seriously?
the best things i've heard so far in 2008 are the british sea power, the alejandro, albert hammond and matt keating's quixotic, which is at the top of the heap

I was thinking this would be a problem. I am coming from the Lehigh Valley, it's about a 40-50 min drive south for me. I guess I don't have many options, do I? But I will check with SEPTA to see what they are are. Thank you for your help! And if you can help me out with any other info- I'd appreciate anything you can tell me. Thanks again.
ya know, if you're coming from the allentown - bethlehem - easton area, you could just park at one of the northern SEPTA stations - Doylestown maybe? - and ride in
but parking isn't all that bad. give yourself enough time & you'll be fine

happy birthday, jerry!

i just downloaded euridice proudhon, listening to it now.
dean's masterpiece
i worship that little freaking record
orpheus in his underware, magical dance number scene, sleepcure theory advancer, I don't mind dragging you down ... these are perfect pop songs
if you haven't heard the Shafts, here's an MP3 of sleepcure theory advancer: http://www.indiepages.com/capstanshafts/sounds/sleepcure.mp3

2007 The Capstan Shafts - Her Vs The Sad Cold Eventually
god-damn, yes
incredible record
we may be the only two people who have it

Steve Wynn is a fucking genius. This was a really tough project to pull off without sounding hackneyed and trite. But these guys have done it. And it seems like Steve is getting more pub for this than all his dream syndicate, gutterball and solo stuff. Hopefully, people hear this and go out and buy his earlier stuff, which is almost uniformly brilliant.
Tell me when it's Over may be the best song ever. If not, maybe it's When you Make up your Mind. Or maybe As it Should Be?
You can't buy a Steve Wynn record and not totally dig it.

it would cause me to miss 3 out of 4 class days... stupid stat class.
would be 75 percent, if that helps

i love that july 26, 1972 show
