  1. Are you sure there's not more to it? Because he made Kate promise to do something. Remember, he said "Just do it, Kate," plus in one of the flashes a couple weeks ago Jack got pissed when Kate snuck out to do something she promised Sawyer she'd do.
  2. Kate, that reminds me of the Christian store I walk by every day on the way to work!! You know, the one with all those t-shirts that rip off pop culture logos and stuff. I remember seeing a lot of kids wearing them in Jesus Camp.
  3. The way they showed him climbing up the ladder and then I think there was a close-up of his legs going over the rails or something, I thought he might fall... but then I also felt like it would have been a huge shift in emotion to have him slip or something, and yet apparently I was holding my breath the entire scene. Plus their reunion was a good balance to Sun's frantic screaming and loss of Jin, which (even if just for the sake of this episode's emotional ride and not in the greater Lost universe) fits well with the yin/yang theme that permeates everything on this show. Their story was al
  4. I sobbed when Desmond and Penny first saw each other.... and then exhaled once Desmond was safely over the side of the boat. Man. So happy to see that happen, seriously.
  5. Interlibrary loan is your friend. They do all the work for you and you just pick it up at your home library. I am pages away from finishing The United States of Arugula (I know, I've taken forever,) and I've really enjoyed it!! American history and food? Yes, please!!
  6. I think that may be more about the espresso drinks and frappuccinos than drip coffee. Coffee and tea prices do seem standard to market, but it's what, close to $5 for a venti caramel frappuccino? Of course local coffee shops probably aren't much cheaper for those in-house huge mugs of latte... I read somewhere that Starbucks uses slightly inferior beans and roasts them extra-long to extract more oil -- that's why it has the burnt taste. Maybe MrBnB (coffee expert extraordinaire) can chime in?
  7. Glad you like it, but the idea here is to share these local roasters that everyone is always raving about and swearing is "the best coffee in the world." So... Starbucks is DQed. Plus really, what's the fun in getting Starbucks in the mail when you can get it anywhere?
  8. Wow, everyone seems to have the best coffee!! So.... Announcing the Via Coffee Cup coffee and tea exchange!!
  9. Announcing the Via Coffee Cup coffee and tea exchange! We all have some favorite local roasters or know of some orgasmic tea blends. Now it's time to share our love of fine hot drinks with our fellow VCers! This will be much like such past VC success stories as Via Christmas Pudding, except you know who you're sending to and receiving from (NAPE.) Here's what we propose: -send 1/2 lb. of coffee OR its monetary equivalent in tea to someone -get 1/2 lb. of coffee or some tea from someone else -expand your love of coffee and tea from around the country! The guidelines: -LOCAL ROAST
  10. That looks like a rather large 12 ounces. I LOVE iced Americanos. I'm really good about making my own coffee at home, but those things are my summertime weakness.
  11. "disqualified" ...it's swimming terminology (and probably other things.) So I guess it's the 86ed of the competitive swimming world. That reminds me, in my two years working at the bakery (where we served Intelligentsia) I only got to say something was 86ed a handful of times... what a shame, really. All that wasted opportunity to use restaurant lingo!
  12. Intelligentsia blows goats compared to Metropolis. They'd be my choice... if Metropolis didn't exist. They're a good second place local coffee, but most of their roasts are muddy and bitter, even the "lighter" ones -- with the exception of their Quetzal breakfast blend, which is weaker than Superman around kryptonite. I used to work at a place that served Intelligentsia and I thought they were Oh So Great, but now I've seen the error of my ways. There's hope for you. Also, PopTodd, Intelligentsia is treading on being DQed from "local" because they opened a Los Angeles location a few years
  13. This needs "local small roaster" on the list because that is very different from the diner/mom & pop option. Or just put Metropolis on there so it can kick all the others' asses. Can I get a witness!? yvon? renic? ROBIN?? Spice Island is calling....
  14. What happens if someone gets "the trots" while on a horse? That's like, pun-potential overload!
  15. The motorcycle country image is really solidified by all of the hanging baskets of flowers.
  16. That reminds me of Brad's response to the fried dried beef at Siam Noodle: "I've had that before. It's called Slim Jims."
  17. T-minus 30 seconds until Brad tells you those mosquitoes are nothing, Arkansas mosquitoes blah blah fuckity...
  18. I need to get some Woodford for Ted as a birthday/moving/wedding present. If Vor wants to nitpick him for drinking, I'm gonna give her something to complain about. Does that make this spite bourbon?
  19. He'll find some other way to make an ass of himself, I'm sure. I am going to kick you in the nuts as soon as I see you.
