  1. my first time in Chicagomusic.gif ....just for Wilco. I didn't eat, drink, sleep, or go potty for 3 days. I didn't wanna miss anything.

    What did you think?

    Where are you from?

    Isn't Chicago a beautiful city?

  2. The added benefit of getting to the venue a bit early (not even 8 hours necessarily... more like 3 for me) was getting to hear Pot Kettle Black through an open door during sound check on Sunday. :wub

Several years ago (9:30 club in DC) when me and a friend showed up early, the band was even nice enough to let a bunch of people in to see the entire soundcheck, and the band played She's a Jar, Via Chicago, Just a Kid before it was even released and several other songs. It was an incredibly cool experience, and it never would have happened had we not been off our anti-psychotic meds that day and shown up early.

    Cool!

  3. I totally get your position, I completely understand your devotion, but that paragraph did not help your case. :lol

Ok, maybe a little crazy. (is that like a little pregnant?) But if people didn't have intense past times, we'd all be millionaires! What kind of crazy world would that be?

I really do love hanging out with so many good nature folk that we have so much in common with, and it sure was some beautiful weather.

  4. I also would like to add that Drunk Pink (as I fondly nickname her) had to pick the most devastating, gutwrenching moment of Poor Places to caress / scratch my lower back with her nails as a way of getting me to turn around so she could sneak past me. Any other moment, I probably would have let her past but not during goddamn Poor Places.

Yeah that was kinda weird... she just kinda walked through. She gave me an inappropriate touch too ( I kind of enjoyed it though). That was funny. I too wish it hadn't been during Poor Places, what a great song.

As far as the going up to the front thing is concerned for many of us who were in line early, we have become friends. Those that come as early as us are soon to become our friends. So, if you want to be super friendly, come early. Share some food, drink, stories with those around you.

One of the things that pisses me off when people push forward is they disconnect us (the people we've been enjoying company with for the last 8 hours, or 2 days, or a whole North American tour) from each other and we haven't developed a relationship with you yet.

In addition, I don't appreciate the insinuation that the early people are crazy. These are people that have made a conscious choice to take vacation time, make travel plans, get baby sitters, and invest their time doing something they love to do (a large part of which is hanging out with the other early people). Some of us even prepare ourselves physically by not eating or drinking around 2 hours prior to the show, so that we don't have to leave our spots to use the restroom. It's an investment of time, money, and comfort. If you are not willing to make that kind of investment, or do not wish to be friendly, stay in the back.

I do, however, encourage you to come early, eat, drink and hang out with the "crazies." I would love to meet you and your girlfriend. We are all friendly, and it is, after all, rock and roll!

BTW I was one person in front of the said incident. They did get crazy on you. The could have dispensed with the profanity and threats of violence, and had that escalated I would have stepped in. I would have been much more polite. I probably would have just looked at your face and said "nope."

    Ok

    dropping the subject

    (sorry Lou).

Awesome show though! Great set list!

  5. I had heard that Wilco would be featured in this fall issue. Of course I procrastinated, and the book stores near where I live do not carry FJ (unless it was behind the Hot rod, knitting, and porn mags). So I was en route to Milwaukee to see Andrew Bird and, as a second thought, called a Borders to ask them if they still had the Wilco issue. The woman on the other end of the call put me on hold to look, and when she came back she told me no Wilco, Just a picture of a Hispanic man holding a guitar. My heart sank. I stopped anyway, thinking that maybe if I dig around I can find the fall issue.

    Well damn!

I didn't know Jeff was Hispanic!

I guess you learn something new every day.

Great article. I'm a wannabe when it comes to collecting...

...used to hit the guitar with drum sticks after pulling off the strings? Nels!

  6. Also, I heard "gold" rather than "goal." I'll have to listen again to see, but I was pretty sure? I'm half deaf, so who the hell knows what kind of source I am.

    What'd you say?

    Speak up sonny!

  7. I think it's wake with a start. Thanks for writing those up!

    That makes more sense

so...Is it about the civil war conscription policy, where you could pay someone to take your place? Maybe drawing a parallel to the idea of being (or not) a soldier today?

  8. Seconding all the good things said about the Pabst. I love it there. Speaking of the "No Buck" shows, I couldn't believe that they just had The Tallest Man on Earth play there for free. I wish I could have gone.

...And you dig the PBR tallies!

    Come on now!

  9. They were absolutely awful. One of the worst opening bands I've ever seen in my day. I could've easily picked a local Milwaukee band that would've been much, much better than a tuba, a trumpet, an accordian and a violin. Most of the songs sounded like a polka band that you could see 5 nights a week in Green Bay.

    Agreed.

    Fleet Foxes

    Avett Bros

    Son Volt (well...)

    Low

    Pronto (that would be cool)

All would have been better openers

Yeah, I will be across the street drinking tonight during the warm up.

  10. Fun Show!

Nice to see some 'ole friends as well.

The Pabst sure kicks ass over the Rave "fish bowl" sound wise. I was all the way near the north wall and could hear a guy clapping to the music (out of time) all the way across the room ( Jeff also fired a glance over there during a quiet part in Ashes, with a grin on his face that looked like, "dude you're going to throw me off with that off time shit") Crazy acoustics.

My favorite song live(if I you can choose) is still Impossible Germany. I just love the three ringed circus of guitar work going on during that solo. They did well on it last night, and there was some interesting nuances during some of the interludes between the verses by Jeff and Pat.

It sure was nice to get a Wilco fix after 7 months.

They were a little, well not rusty but, not as flamboyant as they were last summer. This might be due to their lack of practice, as Jeff stated, but they still sounded like the best band in the entire world, ever. :yes

    What a great band.

    I missed them.

  11. How is Jeff's arm?

Will he be bringing the heat?

That would be the high heat...

    ok,ok...sorry :monkey

It looked like there was an interview with jeff durring the 3rd (longest inning in the world).

did anybody tivo and can you post it on youtube please? I was at the game and saw the inteview, but they broadcast Uke's voice over the speakers in the concourses (as they should, he's the best ).

Oh yeah, and for you sticklers, he actually threw out the third pitch.

  12. Thank you Sam & Sooz

I was overwhelmed by your kindness, and that of the company...

...and stunned to turn around and see Jeff walking down the stairs, and asking me where he should set up.

    "uuhhhh...."

    :omg

What a fun show. Everything was cool!

I'm sorry all, that the recording of the night is shit. The sound is good, but I (obviously) had a problem with my laptop, and when everything started to work (about 2/3 into the 1st half) and then I forgot to change a setting, and...well...shit.

    Sorry

I tried my best, however, I'm about as far away as you can get from the last person in the line of people who do that professionally. I wish I knew more, and had better equipment.

I wish I could have delivered, and reciprocated the kindness I was shown earlier in the weekend.

    Sorry again and thank you.

    OH yeah.

The jams at the end were ridiculously fun.

    "Like double dutch"

    What?

  13. Yes they should call it quits right now!

They are speading the word of SATAN!

If you listen to rock and roll, you are going to hell!

Grab your bibles and guns and await the second coming !

    Even Amy Grant loves satan!

    She is going to hell!

This post is the biggest chunk of shit ever, and I'm reminded why I stopped coming to this site in the first place.

If you feel the same way about Wilco, you should do the same. Go away, and don't come back.
