  1. I would love to see us get together on this board to help each other create. It would even be cool to actually create together, with out haveing to get together in real life...

    wouldn't that be nice?

    I like that cockiness!

I really hope the eventually tell us where we can post our own stuff on here, because I'd love to have some informal songwriting contests just amongst us SST type punks... Well that's actually my most-ambitious concept. I would just like to be able to say, "this is my newest song, what do you guys think? Are the vocals too compressed? Does it need a banjo part?" etc. But I don't want to flood SST with that stuff, because I write a lot of songs. Like, a whole lot.

  2. I go the cheap route

Ive got a strat wanna be made by Conn

and an Oscer Schmidt ,by Washburn, Delta Blues hollow body.

I play out of a Crate power block with 2X12 cab ith 2 75w speakers, and an mxr overdrive pedal. I'm getting a Holy Grail and a Rat.

Acoustic I have a Simon Patrick with an LR baggs pu. (it's been played and signed by JT)

    anyway...cheap

but I do have my guitars set up by a guy who was on the las U2 tour and was the guitar tech for Gavin Rossdale, and tour manager for the band Helmet during their last couple of tours.

    I think they sound alright.

  3. It was a fun night. The drive home sucked, but the music? It was well worth it!

How about the hoof clippings Phil?

I talked to Paul Fonfara of the Painted Saints (I actully bought one of his prints, they're pretty cool) and mentioned that when he was playing accordian ( or was it a bandoneon?) he reminded me of David Eugene Edwards of 16 Horsepower. He the told me that he is origianally from Denver, and that he and Edwards had done some work in the past.

    Neat!

Yeah that story about the cat puppet and the flamming drum set was great! 5 takes on that video!

    BTW this is Rob

It was nice to meet you.

I wonder if we are the only VCers north of the Ozaukee County line? ...Well you, me, Happinin, and Morphogenisis. I wonder...

Anyway it was nice to meet you there Phil!

If you have any recordings of your music, I'd like to hear some.

Just got back from the show, and it was fantastic! I first found out about Nels via Wilco (as I'm sure many of us have), and have been gathering all his thousands of different projects he is in or has been in. I have wanted to see some of his own projects for a while now (from his tour with Glenn Kotche or a gig in Chicago last year with The Scott Amendola band) but I have always been stop by the 21+ venues in Chicago. So I went to Madison tonight to see the show since it was 18+, and it was seriously one of the best shows I've seen in a while.

    ,

From my memory, they played (not the exact order):

an untitled piece (more of a jam they were doing that was great)

    Mug Like Mine

    Exiled

    Blues, Too

    Something About David H.

(There was another song that they played, but I forgot the name of it.)

    Encore:

    Jackie-ing (Thelonious Monk tune)

Throughout the entire set there was so much raw energy between the three of them. Moreover, Scott Amendola (drummer/electronics), and Devin Hoff (bassist though he had a very different kind of bass since air traveling did not allow him to bring his upright bass) were both great. And Nels was fantastic. Maybe, I'll write more later, but I am drained now from the drive, and I am going to sleep.

On a side note: There were other VCers there that I met (I don't remember everyone's name, but I believe HappeningStone was one), and Nels came by and talked to them for a while. He told a great story of the making behind The Geraldine Fibber's music video "California Tuffy" that he was a part of when he was in the band back in 1997. Moreover, he seem like a really great guy.

Anyways, off to sleep, and sorry if there's any errors, but I am pretty tired.

    Phil

Oh yeah, tomorrow or today (since it is now Tuesday) The Singers are playing Chicago with the Painted Saints (they were a good opener), and I think also the Jeff Parker trio (which I wish I could have seen because Jeff Parker is great on guitar). So check them out!

  4. Robin,

Where is the picture of me that you took to send to Jen? I need it too, to add to my pregnant collection.

I had sooooo much fun even though I was really tired during the show. The Cards game in the sun just wore me out.

I think I missed meeting a few people.

It was nice te meet you too, sis

    Awww shithellfire!

(It's me, rob. The dummy that asked if you were going to go drink with us)

  5. I loved seeing you guys again. Some of you I hadn't seen without a ton of clothing on! you all look great undressed! :ermm

    anyway...wilco hangover here.

    On meeting the band

I just walked back after a while and started talking to some of the fellow fans back there and we were chuckling about somhting (maybe chunks) as I was laughung I turned to the person to my right and....

    Whoa!

    Nels!

And does Michael have the softest hands ever? Wow!

Then my wife introduced me to JT, that was cool.

I'm going to change my name to Chunks

    Thanks for that cathy

Saturday night was awesome! What a great show!

I really did like the opening band, but I'm looking forward to Bon Iver in August.

    Love you guys!

  6. tough loss for me Reds last night

don't worry Johnny will be a Red for a loooooong time.

the brewers are fast out of the gate this year!

Although the Reds are looking good tonight 6 up and 6 down after 2

  7. I think The Jayhawks, Early Son Volt, Early Wilco and Uncle Tupelo go hand in hand! I feel like each one is a piece of this giant alt-country-rock puzzle. :cheers

    Like peanut butter'n jelly!

Probably why I'm into wilco now...

Replacements lead me to Golden Smog (Chris Mars). I got into Soul Asylum, Jayhawks, Wilco, Run Westy Run, and Iffy. (UT).

I actually saw the Replacements last show in Minneapolis. The opening band were the local heros The Geardadies. At the Geardadies"last show" at a fairgrounds in Austin MN. We saw UT, Run Wesy, Honey Dogs and the Jayhawks play at that muddy sloppy show.

After that I saw as many GS, Jayhawks, and Iffy shows I could see.

I guess the same goes with WILCO.

Minnesota was pretty cool place at that time.

  8. Bon Iver in Chicago' Lakeshore Theater 4-10-08

I highly recomend these guys (this guy)

If you are looking for some decent music...

It wasn't planned. The goal was to hibernate.

Justin Vernon moved to a remote cabin in the woods of Northwestern Wisconsin at the onset of winter. Tailing from the swirling breakup of his long time band, he escaped to the property and surrounded himself with simple work, quiet, and space. He lived there alone for three months, filling his days with wood splitting and other chores around the land. This special time slowly began feeding a bold, uninhibited new musical focus.

This slowly evolved into days filled with twelve-hour recording blocks, breaking only for trips on the tractor into the pines to saw and haul firewood, or for frozen sunrises high up a deer stand. All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song. The end result is, For Emma, Forever Ago, a nine-song album comprised of what's been dubbed a striking debut by critics and fans alike.

  9. Is this the bit where JT had to run the gauntlet down the hall while you thumped him in the ribs? I heard you missed a trick - someone in the middle should always trip the runner up, then you can get a few kicks in at the liver.

P.S. Thanks for posting etc. :thumbup

    ARRRRRRRRGGG!

Is that a Fat Tire in Kevin's hand?

    OH man!

    What a party!
