  1. That's the thing about depression - the whole world can love you, but in your own private head, you are awful and deserve a self-inflicted death penalty.

That's the god's-honest truth. Be it a blatant suicide, or a slow one through addiction.

  2. I just got home from an evening with Brad's family going through old family photos and picking out ones for the service. I am so pleased and honored that his family has included me in all of this process.

Some flowers showed up on our doorstep today. Hmmmmm...... I think I know where they came from. :shifty Thank you so much Robin and Jen. They are so lovely and are in on Emily's dresser in a vase that came with some flowers Brad gave her for Valentines a couple years ago.

You're very welcome. It was all Jen's idea. She's on the stick with this stuff.

I'm also glad that Brad's family has involved you so much. I know that means so much to you, and your support has got to be a huge help to them right now.

  3. Thanks for the update, Kate. You've been on my mind all day.

When you have the info, would you mind sending me the details about the service? Location and such?

So glad that your mom's going to be there this weekend. I had a feeling she would be. I'm also glad that Emily's talking to you. I hope that maybe this will be a new beginning for her so that something positive can come from such a tragic loss.

    Love you guys. :hug

  4. Man, I love ultrasounds. :) When she yawned at the end, I thought she was trying to lick her elbow.

She looks like a wiggly one!

How about sticking a pink bow on her head with scotch tape? The first time I saw my kid, that's what she had. I briefly wondered if she came out wearing that thing.

  5. I probably mouthed off, but just don't remember it. :monkey My memory sucked during pregnancy and the first year after, so it's entirely possible I was saying the things in my head without realizing it.

I did go off on the old woman at Whole Foods who told my then-6-month-old that she needed to go on Weight Watchers. That bitch almost got a six-pack of organic beer cracked over her skull.

  6. I had a dream the other day that I got to hear one of those "just wait" or "you don't even know yet" stories and I completely went off on them. I haven't had an emotional outburst yet. This scares me cause I think when I do, it is going to be like the apocolypse.

I got really good at smiling and nodding and going completely blank when people said shit like this. Yeah, parenting is difficult. We all know that.

Girl babies poop ice cream. True story.

They do? Then mine's defective! :stunned

  7. Dude, girls do outdoors things and play sports as well. Goofus!

Mine sure does! She's been pestering her great-grandpa to take her fishing.

My kid's favorite color? Green. Favorite animal? Dinosaurs (T Rex, specifically). Loves watching baseball, although my husband and I never do so I have no idea where that came from. Prefers The Clash to Miley Cyrus. She spent a good 10 minutes carrying a live earthworm around the yard the other night. Requested a "spooky spider" costume for Halloween last year.

Kids tend to come out with a lot of traits we never expect. And parents tend to develop interests they never thought they'd have, just because their kids are interested.

Most of the parents of girls I know don't care if their daughters grow up to wear makeup, like to shop, etc. Sure, some do want to ingrain "girliness". From what I see, though, most parents just want their kids to be happy and true to themselves.

  8. can i see pictures of the components?

    No. Calm down.

I just can't stand when people try to tell you to raise your kid like they did theirs and that is the best way. Then you look at their kid and it looks and acts like a rabid animal.

    Oh, that drives me nuts.

  9. I don't think the book makes this claim. I understand that the self-help industry is over-run with this type of book. The Grapes of Wrath was still a great book before Oprah plugged it, though. I'll have to wait on my opinion of the Tolle book until I actually read it, though.

If nothing else, at least Oprah has brought readers to books who might not have read them otherwise. Grapes of Wrath, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Love in the Time of Cholera ... read by lots of people just because of that Oprah sticker. Whatever gets people reading and talking about books is fine by me.

    This is great so far..

Adding to my list. Funny, but it seems like anytime I'm considering a book, you recommend it and I add it to the list.

That "If You Lived Here" book I was reading last week? Ugh. One step above chick lit. I hate that I wasted my time on it. Horrible.

    I'm much happier with this:
