""Sunny Afternoon" - The Kinks musical.
Did you enjoy it?

I am unsure since the playbill does not mention it; however, I would not be surprised if it does hit large US cities. If so,go!

Technically it is a musical, but we went to see " Sunny Afternoon" at Chicago Shakespeare. It is based on the music of The Kinks. If you are a fan, it is must see! If not, it lacks character development, but the music, the costuming, and musicians are excellent. The songwriting of Ray and Dave get their due. The personal and professional tension among the brothers as well as Mick Avory is not skimmed over. See it if in Chicago thru April 20th.

I caught The English Beat/ Squeeze show last night in Chicago. Sound was bad for The Beat; however greatly impressed by Squeeze. Tilbrook's guitar efforts were solid.

Just came across this. I do love Pete’s voice. It’s always a great complement to the songs. His section in songs such as Naked Eye, Bargain, and Baba O’Riley, and his Who songs ( I’m One, Eminence, However Much I Booze) solo albums are some of my favorites.

Checked out Pete's Lifehouse DVD release from the library ---- from 2000 ---- been listening to the latest boxset a lot - via Spotify --- this Dvd is pretty great.
Checking the credits, I looked up Phil Palmer -- the other guitarist on the gig. Co-wrote "I'm No Angel" - Allman's solo hit - didn't realize that. Also his uncles are Ray and Dave Davies.... He plays well on this DVD.
The whole DVD production is nice.
Must admit, when I listen to Pete singing --- I never miss Roger.

I was in 310. 305 would be the sweet spot. I don’t think ga makes sense to get the full experience in my opinion.
We were in 211, near the wall. Frankly the views were A+ and the sound amazing. To give you an idea, three days have passed, and my wife and I are still talking about it.

For me, Evicted is the low point, as it sounds too much like his pop-y solo songs but for a few Cate Le Bon-infused sonic flourishes. And I get how Soldier Child can sound of-a-kind with Across the World and White Wooden Cross, but I don't really mind it because I find it to be the most interesting, both melodically and interesting, of the three.
These are but quibbles for me, and I'm still stuck into listening to this album all the way through, at least for now.I agree with comment on Evicted. Anyone else hear “Raspberry Beret” in it?

They will play it throughout the day, via the Audacy app.
It sounded like a Whole Love-era tune.

I was at Square Roots for those two sets too. It was great! The lovely weather helped, but the fest offers good site lines, is not jam packed and solid drink options. Both bands were really inspiring last night imo! Was curious to see Superchunk without Jon Wurster and it wasn't a big deal. Sounded tight and super energerized.
Great shows. Managed to be up front, too. Jon Langford and Sally Timms from The Mekons joined Eleventh Dream Day.
