  1. Now I'm confused. My first Wilco show was that October '07 concert in Mershon, but I had reserved seats. Not good seats, mind you, but reserved. On the other hand, it's a nice hall, there's nearby parking---and the band's not coming to town in January so the 5 hours I'll have to drive roundtrip by myself won't turn into 7 or 8 in the snow! I thought the Columbus crowd was too subdued, though. I hope they'll be a little livelier this year.
  2. Sorry to be either so late sharing this, or so redundant if others have already posted, but WFUV-FM is rerunning an Jay Bennett interview they did a few years back tonight from 9-10pm. They're streaming at www.wfuv.org
  3. This is how old I am---I have to mention that I really meant to spell it "too".
  4. I originally thought the lyrics said "a cheery ghost", so this shirt is especially cool. A cheery cherry ghost. (The rest of you are probably to young to remember Casper...)
  5. My kids are 17 and 20, but I picked up on the possibility of a parenthood/family angle, too. Jeff is too savvy a musician to have accidently recorded a song so similar to "On and On and On" for their very next album, so I'm not surprised to find thematic links between the two, as well. I love his lyrics' ambiguity and how they bend to my moods and experiences---or yours---but in the end, it's all about the love. I think some group called the Beatles made that point a few times, as well.
  6. Muzzle of Bees Jesus, etc. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart ...but there are so many
  7. This is the wrong place for this discussion, but yes---parts of the melodies in "On and On" and "I'll Fight" are identical. It's such a direct lift, in fact--- and on the very next album---that I suspect it's not an accident. One of the most satisfying elements of a really good lyric is its complexity, and the twists and turns of meaning it can take when it makes a direct hit onto another skull. But if anyone wants to suss out how "I'll Fight"---a song superficially about a substitute warrior---might tie into the everlasting everything theme of "On and On", they should probably head else
  8. It's a great album, which I'll appreciate more and more as I gradually sink beneath its surface throughout the coming weeks---and Jeff's singing is a wonder. Has anyone mentioned that? Anyway, thanks to everyone involved in turning this into an unexpectedly exciting (for me) week. Remember to show gratitude.
  9. I have a single ticket to the Athens show. I emailed you over the weekend about it but haven't received a response. Please write me back if you're still interested at 1stevekorte@sbcglobal.net Thanks!
  10. Living, as I do, in Hitler's Asscrack, Ohio, and wondering how I'm going to make it through the next few days and the legal nightmare that may begin November 5, I have to thank Wilco for this tune. I've never posted here before, and I won't go into the grim details, but wow...did I need a sympathetic shoulder and WOW...did the guys come through. Next time, though, we need to see Jeff spiffed up in the expensive suit and tie and Stephen in the Tweedy, ah, uniform.
