  1. Yeah, I meant is there anyone HERE who thinks it's a good thing?

For me, part of the answer depends on whether or not Iran was honoring the agreement. I don't have that information, and Netanyahu probably doesn't either. If it was a sham, then going back to sanctions might be our only good option, though I've read reports that Boeing will be losing $20 billion. I would imagine that that lost revenue will mean lost jobs.

But regardless of that, I definitely think that we've just severely alienated our key allies, and I don't know how that will play out.

I'm trying to think of all the "ifs" that would have to be true for this to be a good decision. IF Iran was secretly defying the agreement and IF Trump was the only genius in the room and everyone else was DUPED, and IF he can show our allies that pulling out of the agreement just saved all of our butts...

  2. Just watched the Michelle Wolf WHCD monologue...

Not sure what all the hubbub is about.

To me, her speech was nothing (as far as being incendiary) compared the one Steven Colbert gave in '06. And his speech came and left without much ado.

  3. For the attendees of the Alpine Valley Shows that are still looking for camping locations - I just located a private campground (Bark River campgrounds) that has shuttle service to/from Alpine.

That was a clincher for me.

It's about 25 miles NW from Alpine.

Looks like I'm only going to the Saturday show... If anyone wants lawn tickets to the Friday night show, on the cheap, I have 2 for sale.

  4. The stuff in the 80's when he was trying to be Huey Lewis was a low point. Been listening to his Live in Austin album this week. Real strong. The doc is great and worth watching. Have to say that Tweedy does Give Back the Key to My Heart Better. Doug's voice is not always my favorite. I think his influence on Dylan is understated, going up through some of Dylan's recent albums with the Tex Mex sound with Hidalgo on accordion.

The songs he was writing/performing in Europe - seemingly each one with a city's name in the title... Man...

At least at the end of his career, he could hang his hat on the Texas Tornados. I recall the album SDQ '98 being good. It was one of his last ones.

  5. Began watching a documentary on Doug Sahm last night (it's available on Amazon Prime)

Early on, there's a pic of him on stage with Garcia, (it's also in the trailer above) and on his wikipedia page it says that the Dead employed him as a session musician. Anyone know which song(s)/album he appeared on?

Edit - found an article with a link to a show from Thanksgiving weekend 1972, in which Garcia and Lesh played in an impromptu band with Sahm in Austin TX.

Actually, that whole show is on youtube too. Rough recording...

Found it - Sahm played the Bajo Sexto on Wake of the Flood. Not sure which song(s) though.

  6. The only thing I miss is Comedy Central, and not really that. I only watched the Daily Show, and only when they have guests I'm interested in since Trevor Noah took over. I can catch most of that online. Hulu's been working out great though their interface is not the best. We played around with Playstation Vue, but decided to give Hulu a go to get their stuff as well as the cable channels.

We just cut out comcast cable last month, and are getting all of our TV through Apple TV's box. We're currently using Sling, but I'm not that impressed with it. Have been looking to switch to Hulu Live.

  7. Funny you should say that. I'm hearing rumors that U2 might not play anything off of The Joshua Tree on this tour, since they played the whole album last year on the stadium tour. I think something like that would happen for the first couple of shows and then they'd feel the need to add a few songs from it.

A lot of what I've been hearing has been pointing to a very heavy 90s U2 on this tour.

The songs that were worked on last night include The Fly, Until The End Of The World, Lights Of Home and (spoiler text) Acrobat.

I'm always impressed with how successful their tours are.

But having said that, my older sister, an entrenched Bono-apologist, did not have kind things to say about the state of his voice at the Joshua Tree show she went to last year.

He sounded fine when I saw them a couple years ago.
