It's offical: I am out of the loop with current music. I have never even heard of one of these bands, let alone the records.
For me, it's The Black Keys, The National, Drive-By Truckers, or the new Petty.

I thought the doc was great. And really, what was there to discuss about Roll the Bones or Counterparts? They focused on the stuff that was interesting to focus on. I also thought Corgan was just great in this. He should quit trying to please the few fans he has left and become a rock journalist. Who knew he was such a Rush freak?

many don't like them, but the drummer from dave matthews band, carter beauford, is likely the best i've ever seen.
That guys drumming style bugs the crap out of me. Is he good? Sure but way too busy for my taste. His drumming is actually a huge reason I can't get into DMB.

I love Phish and I love Led Zeppelin. Somehow I don't love Phish playing Led Zeppelin. Page should never attempt to sing Plant again!
-
Watching Max Weinberg or Glenn from Wilco is just amazing. Those guys blow my mind how they do what they do. And playing Beatles Rock Band with my kids made me realize how great Ringo really was.
-
This was the last public thing I read about him....
-
I miss Bowie a lot and wish he'd come out with new material. I'm a huge fan and have heard nothing at all of any stroke or illness. I think he's fine but just laying low. He'll be back! "Reality" and that tour were fantastic.

Sonic Youth-Goo

Fleet Foxes
Brian Eno-Before and After Science

So now that the dust has settled on these, what is the overall opinion on the remasters? Yes they are louder, but I think I prefer thr original CD's that came out as far as overall sound quality.
-
Do we think that reunion show will even be released professionally? I'm shocked it hasn't happened yet.
-
whole Mojo album streaming here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/thelife/music/news/story?id=5260264
kinda weird that its on espn.com, but whatever...I'm happy we get to hear it in it's entirety finally
Loving this!! "First Flash of Freedom" is so kick ass.
-
I don't think anyone has beat the number of times Elvis Costello has re-issued his catalog though.
Bowie!
-
Wow - as much as I love early REM, I haven't bought either the Murmur or Reckoning reissues. But I might have to get this ...
Oh you need to. Murmur is maybe the best remaster I've even heard besides the Tupelo ones. It really is like hearing it for the first time.

When Sleater Kinney get back together they'll be better then ever! Ok, so I can dream.....
Real examples? Phish is seriously the only one I can come up with. "Joy" is one the best albums they've ever made.
And does The Dead count? Talking about the post=1975 hiatus. No one really knew if they were done or not then.

I fell in love with "Home" and grabbed the CD. Unfortunately, "Home" seems like the best thing on it. They are sort of a less sunny Polyphonic Spree.....
-
Stay Positive is my least favorite Hold Steady album by quite a bit. a few great songs, but overall it's not my thing. the songs are a lot better live.
i think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Craig stopped writing about the Twin Cities with SP. Thankfully he is again with the new one some.
So your main appreciation of The Hold Steady was the few times they name-checked Minneapolis? Odd...
-
i hope i do. i never listen to stay positive.
Really? I think that is their most accomplished record by a mile. I could never get into the older ones but I love everything on "Stay Positive". I think their musicianship and songwriting took a major leap with that album.

Fela Kuti's 'Colonial Mentality' has been played during the Wilco pre-show at previous "Evening with..." shows.
Just saw the play "Fela" in NYC (with Madonna sitting right in front of me). It was just fantastic! I found it so cool they've been playing his stuff before shows.
-
Vedder's "Masters of War" I remember freaking out about when watching it live. And yeah, Lou's "Fool of Pride". I also really liked the ladies singing "You Ain't Going Nowhere".
-
Sigh
I have sound but just clips in and out. Anyone else? Can it be somehow my Quicktime settings?
-
Link is working, just waiting for the sound. So far just says welcome....
Im getting the same thing that happened to me last night. It just cuts in and out all the time. I have very fast bandwidth. Any ideas? I stream stuff all the time but these Wilco casts never work for me.
-
I wouldn't count on the recordings from either night of these benefits showing up soon,
Why not? Just curious. What is that based on?
-
I have little knowledge of Gabriel, but I love Street Spirit.
Well that's a bit backwards. Throw out your Radiohead discs and immediately go get Peter Gabriel II, III, and Security.
-
I love it and at no point does it make me want to run out and listen to the originals. None of them sound anything like the originals which I like. If you like his voice, I can't see not enjoying it. The orchestra with his voice makes for some intense listening plus the song selection is great.
who do you think needs to be remastered?
in Someone Else's Song
Posted
Really? I think that is one of the best sounding CD's ever released.
Prince catalog for sure. Sonic Youth "Evol" and "Sister" will be nice. The Rickie Lee Jones catalog for needs it bad. What about Tom Waits stuff? Bob Mould-Warehouse. Sinead O'Conner's first two.
