It's offical: I am out of the loop with current music. I have never even heard of one of these bands, let alone the records.

For me, it's The Black Keys, The National, Drive-By Truckers, or the new Petty.

  2. I thought the doc was great. And really, what was there to discuss about Roll the Bones or Counterparts? They focused on the stuff that was interesting to focus on. I also thought Corgan was just great in this. He should quit trying to please the few fans he has left and become a rock journalist. Who knew he was such a Rush freak?

  3. many don't like them, but the drummer from dave matthews band, carter beauford, is likely the best i've ever seen.

That guys drumming style bugs the crap out of me. Is he good? Sure but way too busy for my taste. His drumming is actually a huge reason I can't get into DMB.

  4. I miss Bowie a lot and wish he'd come out with new material. I'm a huge fan and have heard nothing at all of any stroke or illness. I think he's fine but just laying low. He'll be back! "Reality" and that tour were fantastic.

  5. Some I haven't seen....

    Led Zep-IV

    Counting Crows-August

    The Church-Starfish

    Sonic Youth-Goo

    Jimi Hendrix-Are Your Experienced

    The Who-Who's Next

    Whiskeytown-Strangers Almanac

    Fleetwood Mac-Rumors

    Bob Marley-Natty Dread

    U2-Joshua Tree

    Andrew Bird-Noble Beast

    Fleet Foxes

    Brian Eno-Before and After Science

  6. When Sleater Kinney get back together they'll be better then ever! Ok, so I can dream.....

Real examples? Phish is seriously the only one I can come up with. "Joy" is one the best albums they've ever made.

And does The Dead count? Talking about the post=1975 hiatus. No one really knew if they were done or not then.

  7. Stay Positive is my least favorite Hold Steady album by quite a bit. a few great songs, but overall it's not my thing. the songs are a lot better live.

i think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Craig stopped writing about the Twin Cities with SP. Thankfully he is again with the new one some.

So your main appreciation of The Hold Steady was the few times they name-checked Minneapolis? Odd...

  8. i hope i do. i never listen to stay positive.

Really? I think that is their most accomplished record by a mile. I could never get into the older ones but I love everything on "Stay Positive". I think their musicianship and songwriting took a major leap with that album.

  9. Fela Kuti's 'Colonial Mentality' has been played during the Wilco pre-show at previous "Evening with..." shows.

Just saw the play "Fela" in NYC (with Madonna sitting right in front of me). It was just fantastic! I found it so cool they've been playing his stuff before shows.

  10. Link is working, just waiting for the sound. So far just says welcome....

Im getting the same thing that happened to me last night. It just cuts in and out all the time. I have very fast bandwidth. Any ideas? I stream stuff all the time but these Wilco casts never work for me.

  11. I love it and at no point does it make me want to run out and listen to the originals. None of them sound anything like the originals which I like. If you like his voice, I can't see not enjoying it. The orchestra with his voice makes for some intense listening plus the song selection is great.
