  1. Catching Lucinda's set on ACL and while really enjoying it can't help but notice her use of the music stand and what I assume to be peeping the lyrics. Anyone else catch this? I play in two different bands and cover a vast amount of songs but do not carry a music stand anymore. Maybe I should because there are times I miss lyric passages or invert verses. That being said - I'm not in the ball park of Lucinda in any means. Any musicians on board use music stands for lyrics? Just a late night post - having a couple of beers and diggin ACL as usual...hope everyone is well. Matty www.mys
  2. What an interesting question. Jay is a great musician no doubt. I just got on the Wilco train two years ago and only really heavy these last couple of months and I really like it all and every album is different. Music being the most important barometer its really all very good. That being said reading the books, interviews in addition to watching IATTBYH its tough to stomach Jay Bennet at all. I just revisited Sam Jone's rocumentary and its great but I wish it was not for that album and would not have had the drama that was Jay. Jeff sums it up greatly though when he says to the effect that h
  3. I find that having someone give me a set of chord changes helps me through. My bass player recently played me something he was working on and I asked him if I could take it and write words. He said yes and a week later I came to rehearsals with the new tune. A little different than he expected but he liked it. We will be recording it soon and I'll get it up on the old myspace. Watching Man in the Sand now - thats feeding the creative juices for sure. Have a good week all. Matty www.myspace.com/breezygrass www.myspace.com/mattylyons1
  4. Wasn't Dylan's appearance at the end awesome though? The way he came in and changed things up. The smile on Danko's face throughout is worth the watch. What a voice he had. It Makes No Difference just might be the best broken hearted song. Richard Manuel is the trippiest - talking about how they'd go the the store with the overcoats...you know coming from Canada and all. Way too much! Another amazing talent gone too soon. 5. I have to say as a new person to this board and a somewhat new person to Wilco - this is a godsend. For many years I have wanted to visit Chicago. Wilco really cemented this and now its no longer a want to but rather a when. My new bride doesn't understand the fixation, and sometimes I don't either, but it certainly is a place that draws. Kinda like Robert Hunter explaining the allure of England and then going over there with the Dead and writing three classic tunes (Brokedown Palace, and I forget the others). The ultimate would be to catch my first show of Wilco's there. I am on the lookout e
  6. I had a 1941 Gibson Electraharp - precursor to the Pedal Steel and it was unplayable. I sold it. Looking into lap steels though. Just got into Wilco bigtime and Nels' runs are tasty!!! Matty PS - Golden Smog Head when I clicked for the sample it blew my mind! Same name! www.myspace.com/breezygrass www.myspace.com/mattylyons1
