  1. Wolverine would bow the strings like Jimmy Page, but then he'd get really frustrated when he kept sawing straight through the guitar and switch to drums.
  2. You're welcome! Some good stuff in those Abbey Road sessions that never made it to the record. I almost put "Because" on my list, but then I thought, it was just John, George and Paul laying down vocal tracks for hours -- the way they did it is no doubt impressive -- but Ringo must have been bored to tears. Interesting. All George songs, eh?
  3. Simple math that explains the Super Bowl: http://www.someecards.com/2014/02/01/math-problems-that-explain-super-bowl-xlviii-funny-peyton-manning-broncos-seahawks
  4. I agree. So much energy and enthusiasm at the time. That's basically what sold him on The Beatles. He wasn't terribly impressed with their songs.
  5. They played the medley live in the studio a few times, though I believe the final product is pieced together from different takes. The guitar solos in The End all were done together live...over a backing track.
  6. Help is a good choice too. It would be interesting to hear them transform it from its original, slow, dirge-like vibe and inject some tempo into it. Dear Prudence would be cool too. Would like to see Macca laying down that delicious bass line and the drums. He played the drums on Back in the USSR too. Picking a tune from Revolver was tough. I picked Tomorrow Never Knows because it was the first session for Revolver - really set the tone for a new chapter in what they could do in the studio.
  7. 1) Twist and Shout 2) Helter Skelter 3) A Day in the Life 4) Tomorrow Never Knows 5) While My Guitar Gently Weeps Yer Blues also would be a good one -- they all were crammed in a closet together! Or I'll just say the entire recording session for Revolver. Great thread.
  8. I like the lyrics in "Sky Blue Sky," the song. The Drive-By Truckers' "You and Your Crystal Meth" came up in shuffle this morning. Now that's got some bad lyrics. Then again, I think it's a bad song too, so now I realize this point is completely irrelevant to the thread.
  9. Missed it - darn! It would be fantastic if the entire Ed Sullivan performance was rebroadcast next month.
  10. I really want to get my hands on an LP now and see it up-close.
  11. 45 years ago today, this happened: http://youtu.be/Rpr-VURD6fo
  12. Desolation Row is brilliant, from start to finish.
  13. Pitchfork reviews the record today and gives it a higher rating than they did in 2003. They also write that Jay Farrar is singing in "That Year." http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/18940-uncle-tupelo-no-depression-legacy-edition/
  14. Reached the end of my Bob Dylan mono box set. JWH might be my least favorite of the bunch, but it's still got some very good songs. And the bass playing is terrific. Hard to follow Blonde on Blonde.
  15. I agree there's no comparison, but I'm not sure we're comparing. We're just making lists. I love Monk and Leroy Bach for very different reasons.
  16. The applicable instruments and genres were not clear in the instructions.
