  1. He's coming to my hometown (2 hours from where I currently live) six days after my second child will be born. Argh.
  2. Something about the onset of spring and summer usually gets me nostalgic and in the mood to find some ultra-long Phish set and just let it play.
  3. Nice find. I found this paragraph to be very confusing. Just mention all the Wilco records he's played on in chronological order. Aside from his work as a composer and solo percussionist, Kotche is a member of the groundbreaking American rock band Wilco, with whom he has played since 2001. With Wilco, he has recorded the records Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Kicking Television, as well as the Grammy nominated Sky Blue Sky, Wilco (The Album) and The Whole Love and the Grammy-winning A Ghost is Born.
  4. That was sort of the case when my wife and I saw "An Evening with Wilco" at the Strathmore a few years ago. The venue primarily features chamber and jazz music, and there were a lot of season subscribers who either A) came to the show and had their faces completely melted or sold their tickets online for a high price. Luckily my boss at the time had formerly worked at the venue and still had contacts there, so we managed to snag some seats at a decent price. Jeff made a few cracks that night about playing a 3-hour rock show in an orchestra hall and Wilco not exactly fitting the bill for the
  5. From Twitter: out this July 4, "Yankee Doodle Foxtrot," the first-ever album of deconstructed patriotic children's songs. https://mobile.twitter.com/Wilco/status/451086502181609473/photo/1
  6. Beautiful instrument, congratulations. I hope to own one someday.
  7. They did that "Dueling Banjos" jam a lot during the Being There tour and on the Summerteeth tour, too! It's fun to hear, though the recording quality is just ok from that first show. Listen to the Fox Theatre show in Boulder, Colo., 5/25/1995 -- that's probably the best one out there from the A.M. days. http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/473
  8. I love those Miles quintet records too. My favorite is Relaxin'. I'm also a fan of 'Round About Midnight. In terms of Coltrane, my favorites are Live at Birdland and with Thelonious Monk Quartet at Carnegie Hall.
  9. Immigrant Song usually was tossed in quite a bit on the Being There tour.
  10. I like some of T-Bone's production work, but not all. I wonder if they lumped Mumford in knowing from a marketing perspective they could probably hit a crossover audience with Mumford's popularity and sell more records.
  11. It's this show (the whole thing is awesome) and it's after a quick run through of "Ziggy Stardust." The Q&A starts around the 4:30 mark and is about five minutes long. http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/171
  12. I'm hoping for more Jim James/Costello/Giddens than Mumford.
  13. That's it. Awful name. I think the early Wilco had a fascination with bad band names. On the recording of one of the nights at the Fillmore in 1997, Tweedy and Bennett do a "20 Questions with Wilco" from the stage between songs -- must have been questions submitted by the audience. It's really funny. One of the questions was, "what's the worst band name you've ever heard?" Bennett: "Orange Wallet."
  14. Mine too. I think I remember reading they used Black Shampoo for legal reasons -- something to do with their label or not being officially signed yet or something. The other name was American Dust or something awful like that.
  15. From My Morning Jacket's website: Earlier this month Jim James, Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops) Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) and producer T Bone Burnett gathered in Capitol Studios to create music for two-dozen recently discovered lyrics written by Bob Dylan during 1967. Tremendous generosity was shown by Bob in sharing these lyrics. The album, Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes, is set to be released later this year and will be accompanied by a documentary titled, Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, directed by Sam
  16. Technically, the first Wilco show was billed as Black Shampoo.
  17. I'll start by listening to that first show, and you all should too. Think of how far this band has come. http://sooutoftune.org/concerts/459
