That's funny, but those good, worthwhile things are not necessarily the prupose of the messenger's message. The messenger measures his audience, his purpose and desired effect in communicating his message. He has an axe to grind, an idea to extol, $ to be made, etc. The message and the messenger are entwined. It's the feedback that is separate, and often unexpected, and often where the good, worthwhile things are discerned.

I am a Christian. I've read the book, participated in a study regarding it. It's a nice read but hardly of any depth. It IS marketed as a self-help book; it uses many self-help techniques. It does not offer anything new in terms of study; it borrows quite liberally for pre-existing studies and books that are as altruistic as you put it. The Purpose Driven Life is, instead, marketed and packaged. It is a McChurch approach to bible study. It certainly doesn't promote further study; instead it's often pitched to those who go through the 40 days get a diploma from any further consideration.

I've already spent more time on this than I would have expected but going back through the list, someone indeed said "hate" about this. I took my kid to a concert and she was texting during the show. I got irritated at the fact that she wasn't paying attention until I found out she was helping a friend with homework.

People live for this sort of inane chatter -- it fills yawing voids, apparently. But that's their trip. Stamp collecting seems something weird to get excited about. But are you really asking people to tell you what to think?

It occurred to me last nite that this is not entirely true. The Wilco Book has numerous first-hand accounts from the band, technicians, engineers etc. of the band at the time of the recording of the album. It ends with Nels joining the band. Lots of great information.

I don't think we'd have Jon Stewart and Colbert without Michael Moore -- or at least not the political satire in its present form. For better or worse, the popularity and usefulness of the documentary for causes would not exist. Nor, for that matter would swiftboat, moveon.org. IMHO.

I think Kot fast forwarded from Uncle Tupelo to YHF in his book. He alluded and touched on things, hints. Tweedy has said as much himself. But otherwise, point taken. I guess with AGIB there would have to be some touching on his stay -- although that's really his business. I'm just glad that Tweedy seems to be doing so well now regarding migranes and health. I've heard a few comments in interviews that he's "dealing with them" better. I wish him nothing but the best.

I think they're great songwriters, and the harmonies, but more importantly is the production on this album. There's depth to songs that wouldn't otherwise be there. But an excellent choice. My 3 year old learned the words to "Least Complicated" and would sing them at the top of her lungs. For some reason she referred to it as the "sister song"

I dunno, I think Summerteeth would have tons of back story -- the emotional aspects of Tweedy at that time, the endless tour and how things de-evolved (according to Greg Kot) there's the weird relationship that developed between Tweedy and Bennett. It's not Wilco the band but if there's a time that Wilco could have exploded and gone kaput, that may have been it.

I don't think he's overreaching either. Sad day.
