  1. It was not a (very) obscure band here in Europe back in the 70s, at least in the rock press. I have seen the film Velvet Goldmine, supposedly somewhat of a (fiction?) bio of Steve Harleywhich I don't recommend. But i'm not very fond of glam, except Bolan & Bowie.

  2. Lammy don't forget Help Slip!!

I was at the NSB and the Here Comes Sunshine and the Cap Center Ripple

Heartbreak speaking of Scarlet > Fire I was at Hampton 88 (one of my first shows) and I think they played So What > Sugar Mag > Scarlet > Fire and when they went into Scarlet the folks in front of me started hugging and I was thinking hmmmm what is this??

Those 88 shows are hot as hell BTW

PS The best Unbroken Chain played besides the one on the album is BY FAR the Phil and Phish from 99.

Thanks for the rec!...great show indeed

for reasons too boring to share here, I need to buy something on Amazon.

I'm trying to decide between the Sunshine Daydream deal (cds + DVD) and Volume III of the View from the Vault.  Opinions?

  3. Grateful Dead to Release Live at the Coliseum on Record Store Day

It looks the like the Grateful Dead’s first-ever performance at the Hampton Coliseum will be getting the vinyl treatment this Record Store Day. JamBase reports (via Wax Poetic) that the band’s May 4, 1979 show at the iconic Hampton, VA venue will be released as a 2-LP set titled Live at the Coiseum. It will be the first time that a recording of the night has been made available in any format. The release—produced by the Grateful Dead and longtime archivist David Lemieux—will include the second half of the show’s first set, as well as the full second set (there was no encore). The two 180-gram LPs, which will be stored in a gatefold jacket, were mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed at RTI. More information will be available on March 20, when Record Store Day officially announces the details of its upcoming releases. Record Store Day will take place at participating retailers across the country on Saturday, April 19.

  4. I've said this before, but I don't do torrents. Never could find a way to download them on my iMac, even after downloading software for that express purpose. Don't really need any more Dead AUD files, I already have too many on my system. Looking for a zip or RAR, even if in mp3 format.

Beat me to it. Very nice!

Thank you back, Sir! It was not my intention, blame it your post  :wave

  5. A whole lot of awesome in this interview with Bob Weir about collaborations with Wilco and MMJ. Particularly love the fact that it was Jeff's idea to play Dark Star. Knowing Jeff's previous ambivalence toward the Dead, he really decided to just go for it. ...

I'd like to know more on that (any links?), I know nothing on that ambivalence ...

  6. Someone has been compiling and uploading mp3 files -easy to find via the universal friend- of an ‘Unofficial 31 Days of Dead (2013)’ with some interesting (for me) selections, listed below. Happy 2014 to all VCers/Deadheads!

  7. im only sleeping you are missing out BIG TIME if you don't listen to Brent Dead.

If you want to get an idea of what they were all about try the album Without a Net. PERFECTION

Or anything from Spring or Summer 1990. Actually most anything from 88,89 and 90 is as good as it gets.

Thank you IRDB...in fact, it's Brent singing what drives me off  - as Clive Davis would say 'not enough dead' (he sings more in tune than the rest though). Can anyone recommend shows where Brent keyboard work really shines?

  8. Thanks for posting this! In addition to some great Dead shows, this guy's site also has some rare Phil Ochs & Bruce Cockburn shows I didn't already have, which is amazing. What a find.

You’re welcome Mr Heartbreak! Being a foreigner head and with little money and no contacts in the tape trading deadhead community back in the day I find myself in heaven today in the internet where you can grab, legally or not, almost anything the Dead played...I try to compensate the boys by buying some of their recent releases (DPs, JGB, Sunshine dream) but it’s too risky and expensive...I payed an additional $20 for DP8 due to import taxes (something dead.com said they would try to fix, though I am not sure it’s their fault).

It’s been one complete year now with the Dead in daily rotation. Enjoying almost all periods (well, I approach Brent’s period with apprehension) but for me nothing beats the line-up with Keith at the keyboards (except, if a little intoxicated, maybe ‘primal dead’).

Huge thanks to all folks here for all the suggestions on the best shows!
