How do you guys get your shows, if don't use torrent - do you use the archive or do you just stream shows. Does anybody still trade or B&P? I have, somewhat recently, participated in some Vines with Allman Brothers' stuff, which was kinda fun, I guess.
It did take me a few tries to get the hang of it. Etree is the best, because you don't have to worry about ratio's.
a lot of flac and mp3 soundboards at http://www.ousterhout.net/

Here is where I am starting if I like it enough I will dive deeper:
Egypt
Europe 72 vol I & II
Normal IL 1978 - a few month before I started school there
And
Sunshine daydream 1972
It's all 70's so if it works ill branch out
I would NOT recommend Egypt. The boys did not want to release it because Keith's piano was out of tune...From what I've heard, I have to agree

...and at the end of Dark Star you can hear jerry really wanted to enter mourning dew...but weir pressed for el paso....hmmm.....
Just read a Bobby chapter in Gans’ book Conversations with the Dead where he says that by the time he starts getting bored with a given tune it’s a fair guess that a certain portion of the audience is getting bored too. That seemed to be the case with that obviously frustrated segue to Morning Dew...
I wonder if this created any tension between band members on stage that was perceptible to the deadheads?

The answer to the question is yes and no. Yes if you're a pre-teen or young teen girl, and no if you're anyone else.
^ Agreed. I checked whether the original paper included the age of the participants in the 'experiment' and, incrediby for a peer-reviewed journal of such high prestige, it seems nobody thought that age was of any relevance for the issue being tested and hence ‘age’ was not a factor included in the analyses. Maybe this gives you an opportunity to write a reply and publish in PNAS .

Listening to a shitty but glorious AUD of this. Can't wait for my order to arrive and seeing the dvd

Really?
I've listened to those guys since "Beet" and never made the connection.
I only have 'Ursa Major' from 11thDD and hear some 'Television/Verlaine solo there (the 'angular' guitars), although without the wonderful Tom/Richard interplay.

Television will perform at The Independent in San Francisco on November 5 and The Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA on November 7. The influential rock band, who recorded their seminal albumMarquee Moon in 1977, will be performing in Southeastern United States for the first time since 1993. The band will also perform at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest, which takes place in Austin, TX November 8-10. These dates will be the band’s first shows U.S. shows since 2007.

What will be the line-up? Has Verlaine made peace with Lloyd?

Exactly. A lot of contempt regarding NoCal v SoCal. SF being perceived as naive and pretentious, and LA being show-biz and plastic.
This is still the perception 10000 Km away, 30 years after. Biased by appearances, I guess.
-
I only disagree with Jerry as long as I'm not seeing Jim Morrison,... I can enjoy some Doors tunes (well, only Morrison Hotel, really). As soon as he appears in the tubes, I fully understand Jerry. Maybe this is an effect of the preponderance of vision over hearing when forming biases. But this would fit better in the appearance vs sound thread...

^ I think I saw that in a crappy copy of the "Dead Ahead" dvd with sound & video totally desync...

Yes, according to a recent scientific study ("Sight over sound in the judgment of music performance"):
Below is the abstract. Full paper here: http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2013/08/16/1221454110
Social judgments are made on the basis of both visual and auditory information, with consequential implications for our decisions. To examine the impact of visual information on expert judgment and its predictive validity for performance outcomes, this set of seven experiments in the domain of music offers a conservative test of the relative influence of vision versus audition. People consistently report that sound is the most important source of information in evaluating performance in music. However, the findings demonstrate that people actually depend primarily on visual information when making judgments about music performance. People reliably select the actual winners of live music competitions based on silent video recordings, but neither musical novices nor professional musicians were able to identify the winners based on sound recordings or recordings with both video and sound. The results highlight our natural, automatic, and nonconscious dependence on visual cues. The dominance of visual information emerges to the degree that it is overweighted relative to auditory information, even when sound is consciously valued as the core domain content.
