  1. So only 12 songs? What happened to the other 8? Looks like a "Tour EP" should b in the works

Also it probably won't "leak" as they are self releasing it. Kinda like Radiohead.

It's still possible though. Copies will likely get sent out to reviewers, radio stations, etc. a little ahead of time and one of them may let it slip. Excited for the track listing and release date though! I'm generally pretty impatient with record releases but I'll do my best with this one :thumbup

    I like it!

  2. besides Montana/Orikie, i don't think many are saying it sucks, just that it's a "pleasant" but fairly unexciting listen so far :)

Gotcha. I've just been reading some comments on various music news sites, not just referring to VC, to clarify :thumbup . I can see why people have been getting a nice-not-great vibe from it on the first couple spins. Time will tell!

  3. Apparently a new song was played by Jeff this past Sunday? Any further details from somebody who went? I know there was a serious debate going on regarding the merits of attending this particular show. The old politic! Seems like this is some real news regarding new material and I for one am trying to jump any information I can get. ;)

  4. I've really enjoyed the instrumental disc that came with deluxe edition of Andrew Bird's most recent album, Noble Beast. It is called Useless Creatures and apparently it is getting its own release now. Along with this news I found out today that Wilco's very own Glenn Kotche recorded this instrumental album with Bird and bassist Todd Sickafoose. Here's the story:

"If you bought the deluxe edition of Noble Beast, the album that beloved whistling singer-songwriter Andrew Bird released last year, you also got a companion-piece disc of instrumental music titled Useless Creatures.

On October 25, Fat Possum will release Useless Creatures on its own for the first time. (Bella Union will release it in the UK.) Bird calls Useless Creatures his "ambient experimental record," and he recorded it with Wilco's Glenn Kotche and bassist Todd Sickafoose.

In other Bird news, this December, he will reprise his solo tour based around the Dutch concept of Gezelligheid for a second year. First, he'll play a few European shows, including a date in Lisbon that also features a lecture about the creative process. All tour dates below.

Bird and artist Jay Ryan also recently designed a shirt for the Yellow Bird Project. Proceeds benefit Pegasus Special Riders, which 'provides therapeutic horse riding activities for adults and children with special needs.'"

  5. "We have yet to decide how to release our next record, but I hope these partial impressions will help give some idea of the conversations we’ve been having. Traditional marketplaces and media are feeling stale – supermarkets account for around 70 per cent of CDs sold in the UK, the charts are dominated by TV talent-show acts – and we are trying to find ways to put out our music that feel as good as the music itself. The ability to have a say in its release, through the new technologies, is the most empowering thing of all."

The whole thing is definitely worth a read!:

  6. It would be great to see Wilco sign with ANTI and be on the same roster with Tom Waits, Dr. Dog, Man Man, DeVotchka, Mavis etc... :worship

I enjoyed the story, thanks for posting :thumbup . It is an interesting time to be a Wilco fan. Per usual though, they have us guessing. And I like that.

  7. :dancing :thumbup

JUST ANNOUNCED (from Asthmatic Kitty release):

Last week we had the pleasure of releasing the All Delighted People EP (available for download for $5 and free stream right here). And the week before we announced a fall tour (tickets are still for sale here, but selling quickly).

And today, we are proud to announce the upcoming release of The Age of Adz (pronounced Odds), the first song-based full-length from Sufjan Stevens since 2005's Illinois. The Age of Adz will drop on October 12th (CD, MP3) with a double-LP following on November 9th.

For the next three weeks you can preorder the CD and LP and receive an MP3 download on September 28th, two weeks before the release date.

    Preorder it all right here.

It’s much too soon to cast descriptive lots, but we can say the new album sounds nothing like the All Delighted EP (although it shares similar themes of love, loss, and the apocalypse). Nor is this new album built around any conceptual underpinning (no odes to states, astrology, or urban expressways).

We can say it shows an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments. Enjoy Your Rabbit meets the BQE. But with songs. Verse, chorus, bridge, backbeat. Gated reverb. Space echo. Get your boogey on.

The “Adz” of the title loosely refers to the apocalyptic paintings of outsider artist Royal Robertson (1930-1997), whose work is used for the album cover, interior design, and as general inspiration for the tone of the album.
