My ignorance has let me down, didn't recognise hoodoo voodoo or the last two (does that make me a bad fan?). I decided while Glenn was playing for Liam that after 29 years of telling drummer jokes, I wanted to become one. Then I had 2 hours+ standing dead in front of Nels, and now I want to learn to play my guitars. Btw, how do I delete my topic on an iPhone? Will remove vital evidence from existence.

Speechless. 3 new songs to close? I didn't know them anyway. My beautiful, perfect wife got Nels and Jeff's picks at the end. Very happy me. Great set, not too many double ups from last night. Nice enough venue. Certainly helped get the crowd involved. Hope the recording that was taking place in the middle of the room is shared! Mike lucky to survive a head knock from the stuffed toy after Nels threw it back at him. Had both Nels and Liam on the floor tonight'

Jeff doesn't watch Ashes DVD judging by his steroids response! Great show, best I've seen by a long neck. Didn't mind the seating, had driven 6 hours with a bad back to get there. Not really a dancer anyway. Seats a lot more comfy than the Enmore! So much energy, each of them with a very distinct style, but producing such wonderfully cohesive noise. Much more evident when you see them live. I hope someone was there with something better than my iPhone to record with! Set list is spot on, except Passenger Side was before Impossible Germany. Nels went off, & everyone responded! Bet

Ticketmaster must have realised the Sydney ticketing was a farce. Emails out today saying to pick up from Ticketmaster outlest BEFORE the day. Factory tickets only from the State Theatre. Glad they got our right first go, hope everyone else is sorted.

I had a dream last night that Nels and Glenn drove around inner-Sydney on Saturday afternoon to find the support act for Saturday night. Sunday night at the Factory, we had Johnny Cash play support promoting his new album 'Ain't no Grave'. Bring on Saturday.

Wilco. An old mate made me listen to Mermaid Ave and I resisted and feined unimpressedness. I never heard another thing about them, but always remembered 'Billy Bragg and Wilco', then I stumbled on SBS. Johnny Cash is the other one. I thought he was an old country hick until the same friend as above gave me American Recordings. I still prefer the solo voice/guitar (Personal File in the Legacy series is one of the best CDs I own), but what a quality body of work. Looking forward to American VI. Never could get into Hank though...

fewest people at a gig with a name act

Anyone who can put flute in a rock song and have people push it as the new national anthem has to be a bit of both. -
fewest people at a gig with a name act

I don't know whether this counts. Tuesday just past was Australia Day, and most communities had some sort of evening concert with fireworks. Most of the acts are either local school bands or Australian Idol drop-outs. This year I travelled to see Mark Seymour, singer and songwriter from Hunters and Collectors, perform at the, wait for it, International Regatta Centre at Penrith. There would have been a couple of thousand people in attendance at the open air event, but I swear there were only 5 or 6 of us actually at the "gig". The rest were just getting pissed and waiting for the firew -

Just a mediocre happening today which I thought I would share with all you good folk. I was listening to my iPod, on shuffle. A live Wilco track comes on (forget which one...), at the end of the track someone in the crowd screams out "I'm a Wheel". My iPod then shuffles to "I'm a Wheel". Highlight. Of. My. Day. I think I need to go back to work already. [corrected tpyo]

Bump - I've got a new band name. Inspired by a friend of a friend on facebook, and my wife's audiology work: Gaynor Topliss and the Arthur Boothroyd Word Lists. Tell me you wouldn't pay money to see that?

We got our tickets last week, for both nights. Front row of the Mez was the best Ticketmaster could give us for the State Theatre. Should get a clear view between the saftey bar and the wall! Wonder how many the Factory gig is for? I hope I don't become the second person to get punched on stage by Tweedy, I just feel compelled to give the man a hug. At the same time, I need to stop my wife from throwing her undies at Glenn.

What Beatles song would you most like to see Wilco cover??
English St replied to jdmel's topic in Just A Fan
I love Tweedy doing I'm Only Sleeping. Get Back would be pretty cool. I'd also love to hear Nels take on A Hard Days Night. -
Wah! Jay Farrar on Uncle Tupelo last week......

David Gilmour was quoted as saying that playing music with Roger Waters "would be like sleeping with your ex-wife". Maybe Neil Finn could get involved, he has reformed Crowded House and Split Enz? Sort of on the topic anyway. -
I second your emotion. Now my campaign to bring Wilco to Wagga Wagga must begin.

Most of the ones 30 minutes behind the normal ones are in Adelaide. When travelling from the east coast to Adelaide, folks are advised to put your watches back 30 minutes and your calendars back 30 years. ;-) Don't get me wrong, I love Adelaide.

I was a bit of a Bryan Adams fan when I was in primary school. My brother paid me out so much that I stopped being a Bryan Adams fan. Years later, we both came home having just bought a copy of this single! We tried to sing it together, but something was wrong. On the other hand, my brother and male cousin singing a duet of Candy, that was something special. Add that song to the list too.

How could I forget - Bryan Adams and Sporty Spice - 'When You're Gone'.

The band photo.

There is that one too. That is what we are called if my Fairweather Friends do actually show up;-)
-
I'm in a solo band with a few mates called 'The Fairweather Friends'. Original? Not really. Accurate? Yup. My brother was in the hottest punk cover band in country New South Wales, Australia, called the 'Plague of Clowns', covering everything from Pink Floyd to Belinda Carlisle. They thought after a while that 'plague' and 'clowns' were turning prospective venues off, were going to change their name and just broke up instead. I suggested the 'Stiff Sheets' as an alternative?!
