  1. I just received an e-mail that mine is finally shipping from Kung Fu. Anyone get their strap on yet?

I got mine about a week ago (Brown). It took awhile, but it is a great strap. The nylon underside, due to the fact that it is an old recycled seatbelt, makes it quite comfortable... and it's cool looking too.

  2. I don't know about you, but I find it a little tough to finger. Feels a bit awkward. As a internal training device, I have been fingering a D7 chord (which I can do easily), then sliding the 1st fret finger over to complete the ensemble.

It is an awkward fingering. It took some practice to get it down. I do it with 1 (D 1st fret) 2 (B 1st fret) 3 (G 2nd fret) and 4 (high E 2nd fret).

  3. Yeah, JT loves this chord. It shows it in Shes a Jar, Sky Blue Sky, Hate It Here and somewhere else, but escapes my memory.

That is the D#dim chord. He does dig that one. On Ashes of American Flags too.

Edit: D sharp diminished to clarify.

  4. isn't the verse just 022100 (E) --> 022200 (Esus4 maybe?)

the f#m thing doesn't sound too right to me. at least in the verse

You got it. It is E Esus4 and A for the verse. Pretty sure.

    Then for the "It's a secret... etc lines... D A D D#dim

    I don't care anymore... is Em A

    That's the whole song.

  5. I saw Poison when I was 16. Maybe 17. Tesla opened. bwahhhhh! It was a free ticket, but felt like a fish outta water 'cause my favorite bands at the time were the Cult, the Smiths and pretty much every one else on 120 Minutes.

    No love for Crue?

    Cinderella?

    What about WASP?

    RATT?

    How about Lita Ford?

WINGER!!!!! (remember Stewart on Beavis and Butthead??)

    Megadeath?

    Dio?

I'm just throwing bands out there -- I do like a little Crue some times.

I think Decline of the Western Civilization 2 pretty much showed what a bunch of scum/douche bags alot of these dudes/bands were. (I'd love to see Decline 1, been a long time since)

Besides the obvious Sabbath... for me, Pantera is the greatest METAL band I have ever heard. Rythmic and intense.

EDIT: I did like Crue at a point... pre-Theatre of Pain, and yeah, Megadeth...Mustaine is a damn good guitarist. They put out a few really good albums.

  6. Actually that's a good point. $25 seems much more reasonable!

Welcome to my world of reason, Moss. This may be why my wife handles the finances...

Why is there a Jorgensen strap? Is he playing Keytar now?

Yes. I heard that he is putting Pronto on hold and recording an album of Producers cover tunes.

    Good Lord, I hope not.

  7. I can understand where that Pitchfork article is coming from. I certainly hear bits of other eels output on these songs. So, sure, it's not a vast departure or reinvention in any sense. And you know what? I don't care. I dig it. And I'd be reading a review (either on Pitchfork or elsewhere) complaining that E changed "too much" or for the worse, if this was more experimental or whatever other people demand of artists.

Yeah. I kinda think this^^^. I've been a fan of Eels since day 1 (good for me), and have been listening and gathering my sparse thoughts. There are a couple of songs that REALLY sound like other Eels tunes (much more than the BBN/Spiders or On and On and On/I'll Fight nonsense), but I don't care, they mos def sound Eels all the way (Souljacker/Shootenanny Eels at least, with that mouth-on-mic yelling stuff). I have not read the other reviews/posts, so I hope to not repeat too badly, but I will argue this album is quite different than the others (minus maybe some of Shootenanny) in one significant way: Most of the songs (in the same vein of W(TA)) are much less self-aware, more confident, organic, animalistic, down-to-earth tunes than the other albums. Which is refreshing. After E's recent divorce... an entire album dedicated to getting laid. God bless him. That is one thing that we HAVEN'T heard from Eels in the past very much. So, although some of the effects, keys, and chord progressions may be similar to other Eels works, the theme IS unique... and maybe that is why some don't care for it...

  8. Damn, 65 bones but I really want one!

True. But it was like $40 at the Old Town School and GC for anything decent, and what they had was not that spectacular, so I figure for $25... why the F not. The other band member straps are pretty cool too.

  9. Here is my know-it-all opinion. I would bet my left nut that this is a narrated song from the point-of-view of a Civil War Soldier that had been paid, his legally allowable, $300 fee to replace a citizen that had been drafted but did not want to fight. The Cilvil War was the first war with a Federal Draft, and this allowable pay off saved the lives of many children of wealthy land-owners, sending the less fortunate off to do the fighting. The wealthy draftees, some of them at least, would even make posters declaring the offer and a story of why they could not go to war and post them in town.

With, of course, the obvious undertones of it having been a rich man's war, the bravery of our soldiers, the classes, the inner war that the drafted citizen will have to fight due to his cowardice, parallels to many of the same shades of socio-economics that still exist in our military/wars, and so-on. Hence the original, or alternative name of the song, "Conscript"...meaning draft.

That is it. An interesting story, based in fact and history, that allows the listener to take from it what he/she connects to. That is what great lyrics do, and Jeff does so well. That is why, to me, regardless of the "On and On and On" comparisons that I disagree with, this is one of my favorite songs on the new album.

    $.02

  10. I like this song a lot. The intro is one of my favorite parts of the album. Crazy how the silly things they call opinions and taste can vary so much... I can't see how anybody wouldn't like this song. The lyrics to this song kind of make me tear up a bit.

  11. Break

F Em Bb Em F Em Bb Em F Em Bb Em (fingerpick the break -- someone else can help here)

Spot on tab, Matt (the Z). The fingerpick part is just a Travis Pick that is a little off beat. Not that hard, really, just a little difficult to do it while singing (for me it took a bit of practice). 12 3 4 1 234 12 3 4 1 234 12 3 4 1 234 or TI T M T ITM TI T M ITM TI T M ITM, etc. I think all chords are played on the 4 INTERIOR strings or ADGB except the Em which is played on DAGB skipping the G. This should make sense (I think) if you're familiar with the Travis Pick style.

  12. Don't want to cause conflict but the Hawks won't win the cup this year. They're a good young team and they're only going to get better in the next few years (until all those rookie contracts expire and the salary cap tears the team apart :() but I don't see them getting past Detroit and if they did they don't match up well against the Penguins or the Canes. Crosby > Toews. Malkin > Kane. Hell, I'd take Fleury over the Bulin Wall. The Hawks will win the cup but not in 2009. Give it time.

Course, Phoenix (Hamilton??), LA, and St. Louis all have really going, young, teams too... the West is going to get really interesting in the next few years.

I hear you. But I'm calling it now. Hawks win the cup. I disagree with you on the finals match-ups. If they beat the Wings, all things considered, they should win it all. Like I said... the BEST Blackhawks team I have ever seen... not that that means they will win it all, but they have very few weaknesses, except for youth, and that lack of "affectation" seems to be serving them positively in the playoffs.

  13. I have certainly curtailed my concert going over recent years, but in most of the Wilco shows I've been to, a good portion of the audience is extremely chatty. I can't understand people who are *fans* going and being more into their own inane chatter rather than listening.

This is true to a point. I can say that in Chicago there are many young professionals that go to the show to be seen... not for the music. This is most definitely... annoying. Not that they are not "true" fans, but that they won't shut the F up.

  14. I'm a die hard Wings fan, but I don't think there is any way that we will finish the Hawks in 5. Their powerplay has been seemingly unstoppable lately and they are peaking at the right time. Either way I'm stoked for an Original 6 western finals. I hope it sparks a new rivalry between them, after all they should be the biggest rivalry out there. Divisional opponents, close proximity, Original 6, etc.

The rivalry was there for a long time, and it will come back... seems like it kind of has already to me in a lot of ways. I am a long time Hawks fan, but I really do think the Blackhawks take the Wings in 6. I've been watching them since he early 80's, and even with those great early 90's teams with Belfour, Chelios, Roenick, etc THIS is the best Blackhawks team I have EVER seen. The youngest team in the NHL and already so skilled and refined in their play. I'm calling it now. Blackhawks win the cup...

    Pens in 6 too.
