You got it. I will be defending my 18th-place finish from 2022.

:worship  I've only done online tournaments, and haven't come anywhere near 18th place in any of them!  I keep thinking someone should organize a west-coast tournament; and I'm hoping someone gets around to doing that before I retire next year and realize I have no excuse not to do it myself.

Wow, this works out really well for me. I was already planning to be in New York that week centered around an event in Stamford on Saturday and Sunday, and the theater is eight miles from the hotel where the event is, so I just stumbled into three bonus Wilco shows. Nice!

ACPT??  I have yet to be able to work out the timing to get to that.  Now I will be doubly-jealous of all combo ACPT/Wilco show-goers!

Hi everyone, I'm unable to read this whole post, and I'd really like to know what's in it. Is there any reason why I'm unable to read it? The post seems to be cut off after "the best book to read about this is..."

I can't read it either. :(  Someone more tech-y than me will probably have a more coherent answer, but I'm guessing it's a casualty of years of the board being switched over to different servers, etc.  We probably lost some data along the way, although I can't imagine why it would show up in that particular way.

if you read through the whole thread :blink you'll probably find that most of the original post was replied to and expanded on by LouieB and other posters.  It's not a great substitute for the original, but there's definitely plenty of info still available!

First time for us since 58. Interesting group with England, Iran and USA. Shame it has to be at the worst host country ever, but that it our lot.

I was hoping I'd see this in here.  :wub

I'm not a huge football fan, but I've been listening to a podcast about FIFA called The Lords of Soccer.  Haven't gotten to Qatar yet, but it's almost impressive how corrupt the organization has been, and for so long! :hmm

  5. I think Jim hit the nail on the head by saying it was effortless to speak to him.  He was naturally cool, and so funny without being exhausting to be around (some of my best friends are exhausting to be around...;)).  He was a sweetheart, we talked about comedy and his time in San Francisco, and I feel so lucky to have known him.   Such a loss.

  6. How about Wilco Heard While You’re At Home Bingeing Absolute Trash TV?

The first five minutes of Space Force, Season 2, Episode 6.

(I’m in a fife and drum band, and I’d heard before that Steve Carrell was, too. I watched the first minute, and then spent 20 minutes sending it to all my band mates, before coming back to watch the NEXT few minutes. I was not expecting that reveal!:dance:lol)

  7. So many of my favorite people are on this thread. :wub  I'm pretty sure I joined in late 2002/early 2003 (just before the show at the Great American Music Hall).  I knew I had "arrived" as a VCer when I had a conversation with Brianne and Natalie.  I wish I had archived all of Natalie's posts, I would love to read about the Sentient Action Figures again. And I miss Appreciation Threads!  You don't get those on facebook. (Oh, and also, I wish I had access to the VC emoji on all platforms!:badger:eat:monkey:dancing)

Seeing as they are moving shows from indoor venues to outdoor venues for shows taking place this week, it seems likely that the October tour is in flux. I bet they could find some workable outdoor venues in the SW but the NW in October doesn't seem doable.

Yeah, San Jose is the only show I was planning to go to (originally had tickets for SF and Oakland, too...), but I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about going if it's not moved outdoors.  But I had really good seats for the indoor venue!  If it gets moved to a GA outdoor show, I'll need to think about it.

  9. One more click would have answered my question!  Thank you!  Now I just need to figure out which night is my Oakland show...

edit:  And now, as if out of nowhere, I've got an e-mail from Bandcamp with a "message from Wilco", and the dates are updated on the Facebook event for the Oakland show.  But Ticketmaster still hasn't updated their dates.

  10. One of the things I miss most is public transportation.  My favorite Sunday morning activity was to walk to the ferry building, maybe go to the big library downtown on the way, eat breakfast down there, and then take the streetcar home.  I haven't done that in a year, partly because a lot of the pieces of that trip wouldn't feel safe, but also because the walk home is all uphill! :lol I'll be very happy to be able to explore my city again.

    I did it all.,

Reading, knitting, crocheting, talking walks. Just to occupy my mind.

Most of the year we were not allowed to open our business. It’s hard to adjust to any situation when you struggle to pay rent.

Sorry, that was thoughtlessly phrased on my part.  I was referring more to an adjustment in the ways we listen to music, take pleasure in reading, etc.  I realize that many people are struggling with much more fundamental issues, and I'm very sorry about your current circumstances.

  12. Reading was always my greatest joy in life, and I've had a very hard time reading anything at all for the past year.  I'm considering this just a year out of time, we'll all adjust (or not) eventually, and learn how to live in the new normal.

  13. Yay!  I love this thread already. :wub   I'm not expecting to get my jab for a few months, probably, but my mom and all my aunts and uncles have gotten theirs, so I'm thrilled about that.  I wish they'd bump the teachers up the list out here (I'm not a teacher, but I know how much of a bummer it's been for the kids doing remote learning).
