Is the snow a new thing this year? Threw me for a loop this morning - like it.

It happened a few times on the old board. :)

I had a non-white Christmas once. Let me tell you, it was weird.

That said, Christmas is really the only good thing about winter. I wish it was a few months later because right at the beginning of winter is the best part but then we have January, February, most of March, of subzero temperatures, little sunlight, and snow. Tons and tons of snow.

    Bring back summer!

Yes!  Arguments in favor of this:

I would put it somewhere it wouldn't clash with the Super Bowl.  Not that I particularly care about the Super Bowl, but I know it'd be a thing that would become an issue...

Put me down for the "really want to meet you in person someday!" list. :cheekkiss

I had a dream about you this weekend, Mr. Beltmann (and it wasn't creepy!). We were having a big barbecue in our backyard, and you were there.  It made me nostalgic for seeing people in general, and for seeing Wilco friends in particular.  I've heard of words that describe homesickness for a place you've never been, or nostalgia for a time you've never known, but I don't know if there's a particular word for missing friends you've never met. :heartbroken

What if a few Republican senators dying or going into comas from Covid is how RBG's seat goes unfilled?

At least one republican senator (Mike Lee from Utah) has tested positive.  He and the president of Notre Dame, who has also tested positive, were both at her nomination ceremony.  I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of a few more cases from that event.

  4. It could possibly solve one (or more than one) of many problems:

    • gets him out of future debates
    • allows for a complete reset of his campaign (likely counting on Biden to take the gentleman's stance on this one, and "pause" his campaign while Trump is out of commission)
    • allows him to pop up in two weeks and say "see, no worse than the flu!"; or, "hydroxychloroquine works!"
    • allows him to bow out of the race entirely, which would give the entire republican party cover to say that they would have won, if only Trump had been healthy

Also, none of these even require him to know about this plan!  The republican party could have orchestrated this whole thing, either giving him the virus or just telling him he's got it!

(I saw a tweet last night addressing all of these conspiracy theories and then landing on "Occam's razor:  he's dumb and he caught it".   Yep, that is highly likely.)

Join us on Sunday, September 27th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM for a streaming event of performances from Sound Summit 2016, featuring Wilco, Los Lobos, Bill Frisell, The Stone Foxes and Matt Jaffe.

In the absence of being able to gather on Mount Tam this year, we wanted to lend a hand to SF Bay Area musicians who have not been able to gig for awhile and may well not be able to do so for some time to come. 100% of all donations raised will go directly to musicians in need through our friends at Sweet Relief, with whom we’re partnering. If you’re inspired to donate to the fund before the Sound Effects stream, you can do so HERE.

The modern music industry is built almost entirely on Black art. The wealth that rightfully belonged to Black artists was stolen outright and to this day continues to grow outside their communities. No one artist could come close to paying the debt we owe to the Black originators of our modern music and their children and grandchildren. As an individual I have recognized the unfairness of the life I live in relation to the deprivation of people whose work mine is but a shadow of. I’ve tried to compensate for those inequities in both my public and private life. It hasn’t been enough.

I’ve often thought there should be an industry-wide plan to address this enormous injustice. Considering that our business prides itself on its progressive ideals and commitments to social justice, I’ve waited, thinking we would eventually put some type of sustained tithing in place — some initiative that would allow us all to redirect a portion of our revenue to the communities that have been deprived of it. I’ve resisted being the one to initiate such a plan for reasons I find unpersuasive now. I feel it’s important to pledge my personal commitment to paying this debt, and to publicly ask every one of my peers to work toward doing the same.

What I propose going forward is a program that allows songwriters and musicians to direct a percentage of their “writer’s share” revenue to organizations that assist and support Black communities. This could take the shape of a box to check on rights management contracts, putting it at the foundation of our business. Or it could take another shape entirely. I don’t possess the expertise to manifest this initiative, but I can begin to do my part by committing 5% of my writer revenue to organizations that are working toward racial justice, which include but are not limited to Movement for Black Lives and Black Women’s Blueprint.

To BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, and all other organizations that collect and disburse songwriter’s royalties, I ask you to please investigate a way to implement such a program. To industry leaders: please join me in forming a coalition. My small contribution alone is a sincere but insufficient gesture. Hundreds of us joining together could provide some tremendous relief. Thousands of us committing to a reparations initiative could change our business and the world we live in. Black Lives Matter. Thank you.

  8. I just checked my ticketmaster account, and it looks like all three of the shows I had (SF, Oakland, and San Jose) have "request refund" options now.  I don't think that was there the last time I looked.

It's still saying that they don't know yet if the shows will be cancelled or rescheduled.

(I know if you didn't buy through ticketmaster this doesn't necessarily help you.  :hmm )

  9. FYI, we received this notice today:

We'll be performing maintenance on your server between June 04, 2020 and June 11, 2020 MST.

We're installing patches on your server to stay ahead of potential security vulnerabilities. Between Thursday, June 04, 2020 12:00 AM and Thursday, June 11, 2020 12:00 AM MST, you may experience up to 30 minutes of intermittent interruption to your hosting services while we install the patches.

After the patches are installed, we'll reboot the server and you'll be up and running.

So, it shouldn't be much of an outage, but if we're down for a bit, please just check back in 30 minutes.

  10. What is the venue in the shot of the full audience/balcony with purple painted wood taken from behind the drums?  About 2/3 down the page.

Right now, I'd say that was taken in social distancing hell.  :blink   Or maybe that's heaven, when we can all be packed together like that again!

These are great, Charles, thank you.  I love Nels with the lamp!

  11. The Portland, OR show (night #1) is rescheduled to November 9, 2020.  New tickets were emailed to me last week.

I assume that show #2 will be on November 10th (I did not purchase tix for show #2 -- was supposed to be out of town).

Interesting!  I'll start planning for Bay Area shows after that...

  12. That seems strange. Is there a fear that strangers in neighboring courts could pass the virus by mindlessly shagging each other's balls?

I'm thinking once it's a bit warmer, I'll head to the local park's pickleball courts to play with my son. We're way closer in our house than we would playing pickleball.

I think it's just to keep as many people out of the parks as possible.  Although they're definitely not strictly enforcing most of these rules.

    Edit:  from https://sf.gov/stay-home-except-essential-needs

    Staying active

Fitness and exercise gyms and similar facilities must be closed.

Stay indoors and not in close contact with other people.

You can engage in certain activities outdoors. You should not play sports indoors or play team sports.

Sports that are permitted (as long as you keep at least 6 feet from anyone else and don’t share equipment):

    • yoga on your own (no sharing blocks or mats)
    • running alone or with others with distance
    • riding your bike (alone or with distance)
    • walking (alone or with distance)
    • stretching
    • swimming in the ocean or in your own pool/hot tub
    • shooting baskets by yourself, or hitting a tennis ball against a backboard

    Not permitted:

    • any team sports where there is any contact or where a ball or other equipment is touched by multiple people (soccer, baseball, basketball, Frisbee, etc.)
    • swimming in a communal pool

So it looks like what they're trying to avoid there is people sharing equipment, both of you touching the tennis ball, etc.  If you're playing with a child, I can't imagine anyone would mind.  Where I'm internally judging people is when multiple adults are out together. I'm OK with whatever looks like a family unit (parents and kids, couple walking a dog, whatever), but it's harder when it's *possible* that a group is all housemates (lots of adults in SF live with roommates), but also, they could just be assholes!

  13. My cousin who is a NYC teacher has corona virus this is why NYC should have been closed down earlier especially the schools!

A friend from college is just getting over it.  She's thankful that her husband and three kids are asymptomatic (they haven't been tested).  She's a college professor, her doctor told her that he wouldn't be surprised if the college is riddled with it.
