  1.

I hope she comes back soon! Though, with some of the stuff she's been dealing with, I'd understand if she didn't.

i missed the reason she's taking a break (thought it was just to catch on living a normal life, though as a musician these days i'm not sure how you do that and still pay the bills).

  2. Marketing isn't just merch. To me, the best marketed bands are some of the boomer-classic rock acts who, after years and year of effort from their labels/PR/promoters/etc, get pushed into "legendary" status despite maybe only having one or two big albums like Fleetwood Mac.

Fleetwood Mac is a weird example to draw... three (at least) distinct phases during their career, and one of the top selling records ever.

for bands below at or below theater level, merch is their only way of marketing, really. you'll rarely hear them on radio or read about them in national print. i guess song placement works as marketing as well; Mogwai has had pretty good luck placing songs on tv shows and films.

Minutemen - History Lesson pt 2

Our band could be your life
    Real names'd be proof
Me and mike watt played for years
    Punk rock changed our lives
We learned punk rock in Hollywood
    Drove up from Pedro
    We were fucking corn dogs
    We'd go drink and pogo
    Mr. Narrator
This is Bob Dylan to me
My story could be his songs
    I'm his soldier child
    Our band is scientist rock
But I was E. Bloom and Richard Hell
    Joe Strummer, and John Doe
Me and Mike Watt, playing guitar
  4. House of Love - "Beatles and the Stones" (also Mott The Hoople's "All The Young Dudes")

  5. Throwing Muses

damn i forgot about this. TD isn't in the lineup is she?

☺Yeah don’t give up on them when the sound is on it’s

sad to say that Tame Impala lost me after _Lonerism_. i can't get w/ their new direction at all.

  6. Those photos are excellent, as always. That pick manufacturer is a ballsy mofo. I'm certain they'll hear from you or your attorney.

i should have rattled their cage w/ an invoice but let them get off easy w/ a photo takedown (of course he had the balls to offer credit; photo credit don't pay my bills!)

  7. I didn't realize this band was still a thing.  I've been weeding out records lately and this one has been on the chopping block.  The only reason I keep it is because it was the answer to a "Win a Tama Drum Kit" trivia question* in Modern Drummer magazine when I was in high school, and my drum teacher (Tom Rafferty, RIP....link below to his band, the Starving Brain Eaters) told me the answer.  I didn't win the drums, but I guess keeping that memory alive is a pretty good reason to keep the record.  Then again, am I really going to forget if I let the record go?

(*Name the band that Carl Palmer played in before Emerson Lake and Palmer, whose only hit was "Fire.")

he played Psycho in 2016 and then did a short US tour the following year. He's still great, really energetic and quite a stage presence and production.
