i have a feeling that Nels could play anything Jeff can, but not vice versa.

It is, and ultimately, they gave me the option of a refund or a replacement. I took the refund and went to the record store a couple days later to buy it. I told my friend at the record store about the warped record (and showed him the video I too of it spinning on my turntable), and he said their shipment was recalled due to damage and that a lot of the are probably like that. Maybe it had to do with the heatwave in the south that week, because everyone else seems to be getting good copies. So a week later they finally got their shipment and I went back to get a pink copy.
So it worked out in the end.
good to hear!
I bought a Melvins LP from their merch table years ago (Nude With Boots) and they were cheap at $10 but with a giant BUYER BEWARE sign, as they were all warped... i took a chance on one that looked OK in the shrinkwrap, put it on at home the next day, and teh stylus got launched into outer space on the first revolution. total no-go.
but i had a bunch of 12"x12" floor tiles leftover from a kitchen project, and stacked about 6-8 on the LP and left it in the basement for ~6 months. plays fine now!

What's your recommendation for the best entry portal album for Thee Oh Sees? I know their catalogue is pretty diverse. Where should I start?
hmmm... Maybe _Orc_? or _Floating Coffin_?

I looked over their return policy. It says open items are non-returnable. I only knew it was warped because I opened it so I could listen to it.
All returns are at the expense of the buyer.
The warping, it could be argued, is the fault of USPS (since they delivered it in the morning rather than in late afternoon like they do every other day). Or even my own fault for ordering a record in summertime knowing where it'd be left. (Although I know from being an Amazon seller that a delivery is the seller's responsibility until the buyer has the item in their hands and is 100% satisfied, so that argument works in my favor.)
In any case, I see a lot of ways for Kung Fu to refuse my return, and their own paperwork makes it look like they are very unaccommodating.
Their papers don't include a phone number of email address, unless I overlooked it, but if I can contact them, I'll hit them up for a new copy.
sorry for the late reply here, but not allowing a return because a record is warped, skips, drilled off center etc is total bullshit.

Thee Oh Sees are at the top of their game right now. unstoppable rock and roll juggernaut.

hey, knock yourself out and create whatever threads you like. kinda weird first post, though - i admire your passion for genres.
in other metal news, one of the most original bands in the genre are doing their first US tour, so if Oranssi Pazuzu hits your town, and you like a weird pastiche of black metal and space rock, check 'em out. i've never seen a metal band w/ two keyboard players and guitarists who use a Tele and a Strat.

Kraftwerk's continuing omission is a grave sin against music.

There's a story here. If anyone here is also in the Shot in the Arm Group on FB, I had posted that my wife of 36 years died this summer from lung cancer. Sharon was my partner in so many musical adventures, but especially in all things Wilco. We had been to all of the first five SS's until 2019 when she was too sick to go. On and On and On was one of her favorite Wilco songs and since it fit the scene so well I had it played at the end of her funeral while everyone stood. I had the lyrics printed for everyone. It was intensely emotional for all there. So I've been requesting the song on the website. I told this story in my first request, and then made a lot of requests all for Sharon. I'm going to sleep tonight knowing that Wilco played On and On and On for Sharon.
that's quite touching, Gary.
sorry i didn't see you last night, i thought i saw you as you were heading to your seat before wilco got on... you were a lot closer than i was (row V) if that was you!

A friend of mine is looking to sell one ticket, $91 but will entertain offers. It’s a hard ticket but exchangeable via the Ticketmaster app. If you’re interested send me a PM and I’ll give you his phone number.
Thanks!

Well, as feared, I got home and my vinyl copy was warped into the shape of a topo map of the Andes. Totally destroyed. Kung Fu has a useless return policy, and trying to get recourse from US Postal Service is a non-starter.
So I guess Wilco will be getting a double sale from me this time out. I better win that guitar.
At least there's Spotify to hold me over until I can get to the record store.
i don't get the concept of a mail order place not accepting defective returns?
-
Ha! I only saw that after the fact.
How ya holding up?
much better than the 1st surgery, tbh.
gonna see Graveyard and Black Mountain tonight... even gonna shoot it i think.
