that would have worked from anyone else anywhere else in the world.

i showed the cover to my 4 year old dog and he ate it. so i give the cover a rating of 'dog food'

your dad being cool or uncool does not influence your liking for the man, you can have a perfectly healthy relationship with them still. anyway - jeff tweedy's not cool, let's get back to reality.
-
yeah, you got me! but, i still think it's not right to think your parents are cool. by cool i don't mean you can't love them - but you love them despite their clear (in your younger, wiser, eyes) failings.
-
yeah, that's wrong i'm affraid. at the very least the child should hide their feelings of daddy-coolness, surely?
-
unless he's talking about comments that are obnoxiously in favour of the cover as well as obnoxiously against it, then - no, i'd say he's just like most people. plus, it's not actually normal to think anything your dad does is cool - whether it is or not - it just goes against the natural run of things. you have to be very warey of kids like that.
-
oh, we Brits can get away with it. I'm just sayin' . . . no, i'm sure there are a few exceptions to the rule - but, in general it's not a good omen is it? plus it has to work.

my favourite Pat alternative (from typing the name 'pat' into google image search) is Pat Delorie.
-
of course it is!

i do like the music too, but that's cos it sounds just like 'werewolves of london' - and even now i am singing the chorus - so it is good in that way. i just know that if i think about it too much it'll annoy me. there is also something kind of very annoying about singing a song about your fans being a certain type of people, and needing their music for certain reasons, and now i'm going to stop right there before i get annoyed.
-
it's not silly though, it's just a bad joke. silly things are funny.
-
i like the chorus, but i don't really like the tone of it - it would be better if it was the same melody about something else. for a start it's not very funny, plus . . . i don't know . . . it's just not funny . . . and being self-referential is the death knell of good art; that too.
-
my view on this cover is going to depend on how good the music is. if it all sounds like wilco (the song) did when i heard it, then my view will be that it's a shit cover trying to be too funny and failing. if the songs are good then i'll think it's like my feelings for a lot of those 60s and 70s 'weird covers' - in that they're good, because they don't take themselves seriously, and that's a good thing because the music is seriously good!

and thinking that Sound of Love is the greatest song ever . . . it's not, but listening to it right now makes me think it is.

one other option - and i'd personally like to see this done - is remove every backing track and piano/organ/tambourine/etc... performed by him off of all the albums he played on and let the old version go out of print. it would mean we'd get 2 versions of these albums, summerteeth would sound a million times better, and Jay would have to learn how to get hip by some other means. or . . . go on judge judy, perhaps? that'd be interesting also.
-
yeah, but Jeff's puke stains on the toilet wall also played a big part in them losing that deposit - let's not blame everything on Bennett.
-
i think wilco should make a counter claim, stating that Bennett's natty-dreads ruined all their band photos between the albums Being There and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. that must have held back their record sales by the hundreds of thousands, and cost the band huge amounts of potential spondulics.

you should end the mixtape with this: i've been everywhere

Beyond Here Lies Nothing is the same as Black Magic Woman (that's the Fleetwood Mac version, but it's also Otis Rush's All Your Love - which is what Black Magic Woman borrows from in the first place) -

in that radio show that Mattz posted it kind of explains why. Willie Dixon's estate successfully sued Led Zeppelin - so that's set a precedent for having to give him credit. none of those other blues guys have done this, or, if they have, they haven't been successful. -
