See, to me it reads like an angry young 6th former doodled it on their notebook. But, like I said - I think it's a good song when you listen to it, I just have to ignore the message behind them and just listen to the way they are sung. I've never really read anyone say that Pink Floyd were great lyricists as such, I've read them say Barrett wrote interesting/weird/original lyrics certainly, but what I've read of them they focus on the music and the concepts behind the albums because that's where all the interest & originality lies. By the way, Ian Hunter? Do people always mention him al

Yes, start with that for sure. It's a pretty brilliant compilation actually, but it's not the type of music he was known for in his lifetime - it's quite country orientated, when in actual fact he was one of the pioneers of the disco era, and also did some weird stuff with cellos! Very good, also, but I'm not sure if it'd be your thing. Check this song out - the best from the comp, in my view: They are, but you'll be very surprised by what they sound like, after listening to that compilation. He's a great musician, shame he died so young, of aids - but then being a 'disco pioneer' it

I think even The Who wrote better lyrics than Pink Floyd, and that's saying something! It's a good song though, it works for some reason.

"Classic" albums you just don't get

The Official Bob Dylan Thread

Yeah, I got it to work. Not very great quality, and some German woman talks over the start of each song. It was slightly better than I thought it was going to be, after hearing Beyond Here Lies Nothin', but after a couple of listens I'd say it's on a par with Modern Times, apart from the fact that Modern Times has about 3 songs that I really loved right from the off, and this doesn't seem to. I'm not even sure if I'm going to buy this, actually. -
Invisible Republic: Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes It's certainly the least straight forward read, but, to me, it's the most interesting period of Dylan's life and the most interesting book about him - as a result. Mainly because it's not really about him - it's about an imagined old weird america (the invisible republic).

Favourite opening lines: "If the farmer has no silo, then his fuel cost runs up very high That's just how much I'd love, if you'd just only let me try!" All You Have To Do Is Dream - Bob Dylan & The Band Favourite line when sung: "I am a lineman for the county, and I drive the mainroad. Searchin' in the sun for another overload." The Wichita Lineman - Jimmy Webb Favourite spoken word intro: "This song is based on a true story Which would be fine if it wasn't autobiographical" Runaway - The Super Furry Animals

Every single song on Blueberry Boat by The Fiery Furnaces, well actually nearly ever single song The Fiery Furnaces ever recorded, actually.

see my view on this is that without leaks of music i'd be unable to support as any people who are making good music as i do now. i certainly don't feel bad about downloading an album, finding out it is shit, and deleting it, because i eventually find an album i download and do like which i then purchase instead. so i'm rewarding good music, not bad. i've only got a certain ammount of money to spend per month on music - and normally i can find good stuff to purchase. that works out far better than me spending the same ammount of money, but getting bad music in return - actually i think that wou

i'm surprised how many people in this thread seem to have not heard of them. United was pretty big when it came out, thanks to French music being cool because of Air's Moon Safari. And as a result Too Young, Honeymoon, If I Ever Feel Better, On Fire, well most of the album got played a lot from what I can remember. I liked Alphabetical, but lost them after that - I might check out this new one. -

Lambchop, Bonnie "Prince" Billy or M Ward?
Synthesizer Patel replied to stagerug's topic in Someone Else's Song
well that's his style on that album. which is why he's a good artist. because he progressed and passed through a number of styles since then; and had done so up to that point also. -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magnetic-South-Sal...1132&sr=8-3 only short clips though. i'd say that those 2 albums are up there with the very best country rock albums of the time.

i love that album. np

i don't know. i think there should be a rule that for every 10 great singles someone makes they're allowed to kill at least one person - that's fair.
