D-man wonders why you guys don't like the Whole Love?
97flatcars replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Just A Fan
My only gripe with Jeff these days is he needs a hair cut and a membership to a gym. I've been listening to Wilco BEFORE they were Wilco (I think I was 26 when UT came out with No Depression--I even have a demo cassette of the album they were sending out to college radio stations at the time). Every time I hear the band, every time I see Jeff spin his magic on the guitar, it makes me smile and think, WOW, look how far this has come. It's not a sellout, it's an evolution. One thing I have noticed about TWL is I'm hearing musical phrases I've heard on previous Wilco albums. That's a first, -
Better take 'em now before it's too late. My 10-yr-old son thinks Jason Derula de-rulas! now. There was a time when he would have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Tweedy and/or Wilco, but I think those days are over. He'd rather be taken to see Lady GaGa than Jeff Tweedy (actually, Lady GaGa might not be such a bad show to see . . .)

Just had my first listen to The Whole Love--it's got my whole love. The reason why I've been such a loyal follower of this band since it's inception (and BEFORE): every single album Wilco has ever put out is so different from the one before, and every single album shows unbelievable talent. I wasn't sure what to expect from this new one. I am so totally impressed. Incredible musicianship that never ever ever lets you down. If you can't see that, you're not a true Wilco fan. Long live the band!!!

Girls Rock! The Movie is a must see for grrrrls everywhere. If I had a girl, I'd definitely send her to Girls Rock Camp in Portland, Oregon. What a well-done documentary!

What's up with the bald spot on the top of Tweedy's head? Just saw the Letterman and Colbert Mavis Staples video. Surprised by the back of Jeff's head.

Just viewed a very intriguing movie, LUNA:Tell Me Do You Miss Me, chronicling one indie band's farewell tour and the dynamics that caused it's demise. I couldn't help thinking WILCO could have gone the same way in the mid-90s--never quite making the "hit" that would boost them into stardom (regardless of a sizable cult following), relying on t-shirt/CD sales just to make money to help fund the tours, internal personality differences . . . After 13 years, Luna called it quits for all of those reasons. I suppose it didn't help that they sounded a lot like a regurgitation of Velvet Underground/

Sorry guys (I assume most of you are guys), but I just wonder what's going on with the band. Have the days of the small venues gone to yesterday? I understand a band's dream of making it big, but will they ever play a small venue again? Has WILCO finally made it to the big time? I'm a very long-time fan, remember getting a copy of UT's first demo tape when it first came out, seeing Jeff & Co. through thick and thin . . . is this what it comes to? I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at their popularity, yet underwhelmed at where they're going. Big is not always better. Am I just an old-

if you could eliminate 1 musical act/artist

It would have to be, without a shadow of a doubt, THE GRATEFUL DEAD. -
The Outlaws at Showcase Live (Foxboro, MA) - November 5

And I thought I was the only one who knew exactly who these guys are (were?) I loved them in high school! -
I got a Deering Goodtime last December, and I fake through almost everything. If you're a smart guy/gal, I'm sure you'll figure it out. Get yourself a copy of Mel Bay's Banjo G Tuning Photo Chord Book, and you'll be able to do amazing things--trust me on this one.

You want a MORE awesome guitar, try the Breedlove Revival 000 12-fret--I just bought a Rosewood model, just like Jeff's first Breedlove (and the foundation for the Tweedy Ltd. Ed. Revival 000)--$2000.00. I also have a mahogany Martin dreadnought which is WAY different sounding and feeling. I actually like the Breedlove better.

Anybody got chords to any Laurie and John tunes from their album? especially Merciful Night.

Looking for a "Wait Up" tab--the full meal deal, not some Cliff Notes version. Anybody seen him do this live?

Jesus, don't cry...does it really matter who plays what songs now? Honestly, I can't imagine Tweedy singing Farrar songs. Those early days were magic for Farrar--the only time he really shined. Musically, Tweedy has risen way above Farrar in his career. UT was what it was and is still a joyous experience to listen to and pay attention to. But for what it was, not what it could be rehashed as. Let sleeping giants lay.
