  1. Back home with the post-Solid Sound blues.  I've read through this topic, and I'll just repeat what I said a number of pages ago:  Friday was one of the all time highlight shows for me.  I'm still smiling about it.  One for the ages.  I actually feel bad for those who were there and came away with any amount of disappointment.

I agree 100%... It was really cool and unique. I loved it! They were having fun and that was great to see. Coupled with the Wilco set Saturday it was a memorable two nights to say the least. More crowded, sure, but the best of all three SSFs for me!

  2. Thanks (all)! I'm really excited. I do feel very very lucky. I bought two bars. Opened one right away and was going to save the 2nd as a souvenir, but three days later thought better of that, opened it and found the ticket. I was shocked to say the least.

I went to SS1 and had a great time. My wife is coming with this time and we are staying at a motel in Pittsfield and paid too much for my flight, but it will all be worth it.

If it works for Wilco, my request is going to be Pieholden Suite. It is the only great song (besides Sunloathe which I expect we're going to hear at SS) I have yet to hear Wilco play after 50 shows...

As you know Pieholden Suite only works live with horns, like the record cut... I saw them play it at Tanglewood in 08 (? I think that was the year... They wore the Nudie Suits that night) with 'The Total Pros' horn section and it was great... I would love it if they had the horns back for SS3

  3. Yeah the we are going to learn 50 songs thing freaks me out. Believe me if this show wasn't 200 miles from my house (and require a tank of gas and a hotel stay) I wouldn't care one way or another but for me to make the trip worthwhile I would love to hear some rarities hearing them cover the Beatles is fine for a song or so is great but I am going for Wilco heavy set and am intrigued what all request show can potentially mean with a catelog of songs they don't often tackle...here are the songs I am itching to hear:

    Blue Eyed Soul

    Too Far Apart

    We're Just Friends

    Either Way

    On and On

    Sunloathe

    Open Mind

    Message From Mid-Bar

    Nothing Up My Sleeve

    Alone

    Thanks I Get

I would love the hear Thanks I Get!

As for the debate - covers vs. wilco songs... The way I see it is that this is a one time deal, and as much as I would prefer two nights of full Wilco material sets, I am going to embrace Friday night as a rare event and someday I will look back and feel lucky to have been there... We all have faith and trust in Wilco and you know they will deliver. All the covers I have heard Wilco play live over the years have been killer - 'Something in the Air' by Thunderclap Newman (made famous by Petty), 'I Shall Be Released' by Dylan, 'Broken Arrow' by Neil Young, 'Thank You Friends' by Big Star... This is going to be great. There will many other Wilco sets over the years, but nothing like this again.

  4. Very powerful tune and I love it as the opener. When Glen smacks on those drums and Jeff starts strumming you know it's on... Last fall in Turin, Italy I was lucky enough to coincide a work trip with a Wilco show and the Misunderstood opener was incredible. Also very memorable is the Misunderstood as the 2nd encore opener from my first Wilco show. Along with 'I'm Always in Love', 'Misunderstood' is the first Wilco song I really got into...

  5. I saw others also report that tickets were received. I have not gotten my early bird tickets. Anyone else *not* gotten theirs?

My confirmation email mentioned that I would get a print pass message soon... That how it was the first two years and then you get a wrist band when you check in at Mass MoCA...

Incredible show... 30+ wilco shows for me and this was my second time seeing them in Europe. They were all high energy and smiling all night. Clearly having fun and enjoying themselves. Jeff said very little ... A few sheepish "gratzees" which got applause from the Italian crowd. He did start a few Wilco chants which hit the crowd going... Sort of like a soccer game chant... He said they were doing last night. Nels destroyed Impossible Germany and got a huge ovation... Jeff just pointed at him in amazement and the place went nuts. Very very fun night!

  7. Traveling through Europe this month for work and will coincide with Wilco in Turin, Italy Friday! Having trouble buying tix... Do you think that show will sell out? I get into town around 3 and the show is at 830. Hoping to check into hotel and immediately head to venue to buy ticket in person. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  8. I am a long-time Wilco fan from upstate NY and I am traveling in South America for work right now. As I travel through Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, etc... all I keep thinking about is how Wilco needs to get down here to play... great music scene in many of these countries and some great venues...

Do you think it will ever happen?

  9. After the barn burner Sunday night ,opening with One Sunday Morning did not surprise me at all. I was hoping for a different paced show (and 12 songs not played in Essex Jct was a nice bonus) and I was not disappointed in the least.

(If anyone picked up an extra Essex poster I would be interested in buying it from you.......talking with friends walking out and spaced on stopping at the merch table)

I feel the exact same way... I loved VT but I liked the different vibe of Mass MoCA as well
